Dual personality samba server
Dear All,
I've just installed Samba version 1.9.18p10 on one of our HP-UX boxes.
The unix box is advertising itself with two WINS names.
netbios name = ukswi0103
netbios aliases = ukswi0104
in smb.conf
I've been playing with the idea of changing the behaviour of the server
based on what the client calls it. What I'd like to do is have samba do

Is there a way I can recompile or re-download these packages?

Windows losing EnablePlainTextPassword settings after reboot
Hi,
We have been experiencing problems where workstations (Win2K SP3, latest updates) have their
registry setting for EnablePlainTextPassword set to 0 after reboot.
We have Samba 2.27 and a pilot of Samba 3.0
Could it be one of MSs sercurity updates ?
Has anyone seen this before ?
Any input would be welcome !
Thanks,

Multi ADS Auth servers in 1 smb.conf
Hello All:
I would love to RTFM on multiple ADS servers being configured for ADS
sercurity, but I can't find anything.
Specifically: I have 2 ADS servers at 1 site.
I have 4 SAMBA file servers at said site.
If ADS server 1 goes down -- It will not cascade to ADS Server 2. How
can I set that up?
I have seen when using "security = server" multiple server names listed,
but have

prob: no authority to log on from this station
About 3 month ago, I installed samba on a university linux box. I edited
the smb.conf so that filesharing worked for me from a Windows NT 4
workstation. The problem is that it doesnt work anymore, maybe because of
service pack 3? I dont know.
I get this messages when I try to access my home-directory from the NT
workstation:

domain level authentication?
I'm trying to set up a samba server, such that 60 or so win 98 users can log
into the linux box and be plopped into their respective home directories on it.
I don't want them to be promted for passwords, I want the PDC, an NT box, to
take care that in such a wy that I do not need a smbpasswd file. I know almost
nothing about NT, but the server running works just fine, and will let people

Bootstrap direction
Hi all,
I am trying to bootstrap a small data set into 1000 "pseudodatasets" and
then run an ANOVA on each one. Can anyone provide guidance on how I could
do this?
Thank you.

Odds ratios for categorical variable
Dear R-users:
How does one calculate in R the odds ratios for a CATEGORICAL predictor
variable that has 4 levels. I see r-help inquiries regarding odds ratios
for what looked like a continuous predictor variable. I was wondering how
to get the pairwise odds ratios for comparisons of levels of a categorical
predictor variable. I can't seem to get the correct output using:

Problems authentication with NT PDCs in security = se rver (was sercurity = user)
James:
I use Winnind to authenticate users from the Windows PDC - I have no
UNIX users.
Have you looked at this? I've got an informal HOWTO if you'd like it.

cupsaddsmb and samba
Hello,
I tried to find a way to having the setup of cups printing working for
windows client. I end up now with
"cupsaddsmb -v -a -U root" finishing by
"Printer Driver mesange successfully installed.
Running command: rpcclient localhost -N -U'root%xxxxxxxx' -c 'setdriver
mesange mesange'
cmd = setdriver mesange mesange
result was NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL"

Problems authentication with NT PDCs in security = server (was security = user)
The interesting part is that PAM nor the SMB auth plugin for Apache
requires you to be a member of the domain.
However, the caveat with pam_smb_auth is that you have to have a unix
account for every windows user you want to authenticate.
I guess the behavior I'm trying to achieve is the one achieved with the
Apache plugin:
1) Doesn't require you to be a member of the domain

James:
(Again someone correct me if I'm wrong)
PAM allows local access to the Samba machine as well as authenticating
Samba users. Winbind *only* allows for Samba access. This is why I
chose *not* to use PAM in my setup. I don't want normal users to have
local logon access to *MY* servers. <evil grin>
With Winbind, you don't need PAM at all. If you're planning on

Convert a List of Distances to a Distance Matrix
Hello,
Is there an easy function for switching list to matrix. My list is of
genetic distances between species pairs:

and I want a distance matrix such as:
A B C
A 0 .5 .25
B .5 0 .5
C .25 .5 0
for use in a mantel test.
Thank you for the help!

Writing GLM/GEE Ouput to Text File
Hello,
How can one write the output of a GLM/GEE model to a text file, such that
the results appear in text file in the same (or similar) format they appear
in the R console? For instance, I have the following model:
Traitresult <- compar.gee(Y~X, data = data, family = "binomial", phy = tree,
scale.fix = TRUE, scale.value = 1)
How would I write "Traitresult" to a text

Non-linearity with Parametric data
Hello,
I am trying to test for non-linearity in a set of non-parametric data.
Furthermore, I would like to do so in a multi-variate model. Frankly, I
don't even know if this is possible, and if it is possible, I don't know if
it is implemented in an R package. Any advice would greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

disabling SELinux on CentOS: a good idea?
I was banging my head against the wall trying to figure out why my Nagios
install wasn't working on CentOS 4.5 (I'm used to Debian), and so I disabled
SELinux and everything magically started working.
Is this a good long term idea? Or is there a better way of doing things?

Unable to connect to the SAMBA Shares
SAMBA was installed on a SCO 5.0.6 several years ago. Logins were validated
by an NT server ("DOMAIN") at the time. In March, the NT 4 server was
replaced with a Windows 2003 server and the SAMBA sercurity was changed to
"SERVER". Most of the users are not listed in the smbpasswd file and
security is set to use the Samba user.
Since then, most users can attach to the

Linux ACLs and samba access from W2K
I have just installed samba on one of my linux boxes with acl support
and while I can view and modify existing entries with the sercurity
properties in explorer on W2K, I cannot add an entry for a new user. I
should say that the user database on the linux box comes from NDS and
nisplus, although local users in /etc/passwd do not work either. When I
try to add an entry, it gives me a list of all
