auto-detection of user mailbox type
The config file indicates that if mail_location is empty, dovecot will
try to find the mailboxes automatically (and by implication determine
if the user is using mbox or Maildir format). But if the mbox inbox is
non-standard (I have procmail delivering to ~/.mail) then one needs to
specify
mail_location = mbox:~/mail:INBOX=~/.mail
and presumably dovecot will no longer try to determine what

error creating subfolders
I'm running rc31 and I've come across a weird little error in creating
subfolders that's only apparent in a specific situation. I recently
moved our entire campus from UW to dovecot, and as part of that
migration, and following the wiki, I have some namespaces:

Solaris NFS woes
I am using dovecot 1.0.rc15 (a similar problem occurred in rc10) on
Solaris 9 (sparc). When working with a user who's home dir is on a
local disk everything seems fine. But when that home is on an
NFS-mounted disk things are very badly awry.
Both the indices and the subscriptions file are being destroyed and
what is left behind are files with names of the form .nfs72C034 etc.
These files are

Samba 3.5.9 with Windows 2008 R2
Hi All,
We're going to upgrade our DCs to Windows 2008 R2 native mode soon, so we're facing with the challenge that how to get our samba servers (Solaris 8 & Solaris 10) work with Windows 2008 R2 native mode. I've compiled Samba 3.5.9 with AD support. Then I installed and configured the binaries on my 3 test machines (one Solaris 8 and two Solaris 10). The strange problem is one

rejected our name registration of WORKGROUP<1d> with error code 6
Hi to all, I have a samba server that was working with security share
in one subnet and now is listening on another interface, configured as a
PDC logon server with wins support and w98 clients, I followed the
howto:
http://www.linuxfocus.org/English/March2002/article177.shtml
The clients added to the domain execute the logon scripts fine, but they
do not see the samba server in nethood, though

Exclude from not excluding "My Music" or "Printhood"
We have been using rsync for some time with Linux and FreeBSD, but are
just now trying to make it work with Windows. Not as easy as we hoped.
I am running the cwrsync client 3.0.6 on a new Windows 7 machine to a
FreeBSD 8.1 server. I have an exclude-from filelist, which does seem to
successfully exclude the directories given by many of its entries,
including these two lines:

Cleaning out the NetHood.
hi,
I'm getting a build up of domains in the NetHood. Every time
somone plugs into the network w/ a computer on a different
domain (usually a laptop) it get's left behind and does not
clear out.
We do use a central WINS server, that all other samba PDCs
access.
Any way to flush it out?

Converting a list to a data frame
It looks like you made a copy/paste error below. Your ata.frame should
be data.frame.

This should just be the short hostname not the fqdn

In my previous AD domain, my FQDN was a non-registered (fake) domain
that has worked for years. For example "fakedomainname.intials", like
"domain.dt". This

Re: aec
I wasn't implying that anyone do anything about it, just that's it a real
problem. Unfortunately, most of the crappy sound cards are the ones that
ship with your typical PC, so it's just something that people should be
aware of.
The solution is pretty straightforward -- just resample the audio data in
real time using a reference clock.

WINS server not appearing in Nethood
Hi folks,
I've had a setup working for quite some time and everything's fine except that
the server that hosts the WINS never appears in the network neighbourhood,
and when trying to connect to that server there is a small delay.
As few people need to browse to it, the problem's had a low priority as the
WINS side of it is working fine, and the rest of the nethood is also working

Building without perl
I can't seem to compile 3.5p1 on a Solaris 9 box with gcc and GNU make. The
box does not have perl installed on it. When I run configure, it correctly
detects the absence of perl on the system, but make dies immediately trying to
run "fixpaths", which is a perl script. PERL is set to nothing in the Makefile.
Is perl required? The docs don't say it is... if not, how do I get
