dial-up, wins, samba
Does anyone know if the following is a known problem, or maybe I configured something wrong. In windows95 you can configure a seperate dns and wins servers for each dialup that you make. You can also configure these in the 'main?' setup under control panel>network. After 2 days of hell, I figured out that my system will only use the wins server if its specified in the 'main'

dialup Win95 -> samba
Thanks to the four people who replied to my original posting (appended below, subject "Win95 problem"). I've made progress but have now hit a new problem. The solution to the original problem (How do you make a "standalone" client "log on to the network"?) was simply to tick the "Server Type/Log on to network" checkbox in the dialup properties.

Two samba 2.0.7, one dialup line and excessive connects ...
Hi everybody. I have to admin two offices, about 500 km apart. Because we're in Germany and dedicated lines (and even VPN ones over the internet) are very heavy in cost, we use a dialup ISDN connection. That is online almost 8 hours a day, but still cheaper. Now the remote office said that their e-mail was too slow and I installed a second samba server for them, being a logon master so

Samba server rejects (Win95) request
Hi, I am new to Linux, I am using RedHat version 6.0 and Samba 2.0.5a. I try to set up a Samba Server for a LAN. So far everything (i.e. installation) worked fine, I installed samba from .rpm and nmbd, smbd is started at boot successfully. I can see the Samba server in the Windows95 network environment, but when I doubleclick on it or when I try to smbmount a service from another Linux machine I

copying files samba - win95: drops dead in the middle
When copying files from the Samba server to a Windows95 client or vv, the speed varies dramatically. When I try to copy the same (20MB) file 10 times some times it copies in less than 10 seconds. The next time it takes allmost a minute. And most worrying of all quite often the copying just stops halfway in the middle. The progress bar in Windows just stops. The traffic on the NIC also stops (the

win95 ppp connection to samba- password again
thanks to the samba crew- we have converted several netware and nt user servers into one seam-less Unix network, except for one group, netware dialup users. ok, win95 client, ppp to linux server. using newest pppd, with correct ms-wins and ms-dns code. client can dial, gets wins server ips, etc. the client functions fine with tcp-ip stuff. the ppp server is the wins server. go to client and do a

Win95, sharing printers and drives
I have two computers ROLAND (RedHat 5.2 and Samba) and LINDA (Windows95). I am already able to print on the printer connacted to LINDA. Yesterday, before I managed to get the printer working, I was alos able to see ROLAND's directory 'tmp' and 'winD' on LINDA. The problem that I saw this morning was that the printing still works but LINDA can no longer see the shares of

streaming to dialup users gives low quality audio
Hi, Currently streaming ogg isn't practical in this situation. That was one of the first things i checked into. WHen i looked i didn't see a streamer that did both ogg and mp3. Thanks. This doesn't specifically answer your question, but is it possible for you to use an ogg stream? I've been running a stream using a 48Kbps ogg (i'm sure I could push it lower too...) and it sounds to me and other people pretty much just as "nice" as a 128Kbps mp3. We can't notice it being audibly worse. -Daniel On 12/30/05, Dave <dmehler26@woh.rr.com> wrote: >

This is another reason aacPlus is an advantage. It is supported using Orban Opticodec-PC Streaming Encoder, Icecast2 Servers and Winamp. http://www.orban.com/orban/products/stream/1010_overview.html Icecast2 Eval Stream here: http://www.orban.com/orban/products/stream/orban_eval_ice.pls -greg. Samba-2.2.3a and Win95?
Hi out there again, i just installed Samba-2.2.3a as a PDC on a Solaris-Box (2.6) and encounter Problems with Windows95 Logons. log.nmbd says: [2002/02/25 15:38:52, 1] nmbd/nmbd_processlogon.c:process_logon_packet(69) process_logon_packet: Logon from 10.170.20.8: code = 0x0 And Windows95b states: Invalid parameter. win95/95 clientside password changes?
Hey all, first off, the subcribe mechanism seems to be broken somehow ( I get timeouts ), so please cc my email address when replying to the list. I have a samba server installed for a medium/small network with roughly 25 windows client machines. The all use domain logons and mount various shares depending on which groups they belong to. The server is a debian machine (v2.2 kernel 2.2.18) with

Samba + Win95 directory problem
I have just set up Samba 1.9.16p11 on our Linux server here. It is set up and running fine, the configuration checks out, and Windows95 is able to map user directories to drives. I am able to browse/edit/create files as well. However, I have a problem when I try to access directories within the user directory. If I try to select a directory, Windows 95 claims that it doesn't exist, even

G.729 Codec on Dialup
hi All, We are using Asterisk server with sip phones (SJPhone). On the local LAN, when we use the SJPhone as the SIP client, communication works fine with no disturbances and noices. But when it comes to dialup connection we harldy hear anything except a rough noice. We have included G.729 Codec (Annex B) with the Asterisk server, and we added the G.729 Codec to the SJPhone too. But it seems

win95 client problems (registry limitation?)
Howdy: I'm new to this samba stuff, but I've run across a problem that doesn't seem to be documented anywhere. It seems that OSR/2 clients (with all the M$ system updates; I already added the EnableClearTextPassword key) that have had their TCP/IP settings tweaked in the registry (eg, MaxMTU=576, TTL=32, RWIN added, etc) for DUN connections have mucho problems with a samba
