smbclient size report
Hello everybody, I'm having problems trying to get smbclient give me right size for amanda backup. I'll give two examples: a 3.6GB w95 share and a 500MB nt4.0 share. With w95 smbclient gives inconsistent results (I saw in your maillists' archives that it may be that w95 can't handle that big partitions). This is what amanda is using to get the size: smbclient

Logging into a remote domain???
Hi - I'll be the first to say I don't completely understand Windows networking, but I did get the following to work when everybody (clients-w95/server-solaris) were on the same subnet. W95 boots up and prompts for username, password, and domain. I log in, and presto I'm connected and netlogon scripts run and everything is great. This is when I'm testing it on a completely

OT: Sis 900 Ethernet adapter problem
Hello All, I've recenly installed RedHat Linux 9 in my Celvin EasyPC from Fujitsu Siemens. I've installed the minimal instalation. Video card, mouse, keyboard and everithing was detected and configured properly (I could install the packages in graphical mode). The problem came when I tried to ping another machine in my home network, all packages were being lost, so I checked at the hub

[Fwd: e2fsck Segmentation Fault]
Hi, Somehow I've managed to get e2fsck to seg fault.. The filesystem in question started acting very strangely (e.g. filenames changing from music to MuSiC etc) so I rebooted, and since when fsck has crashed every time it has been run. I'm not really sure what any of this means, so I didn't know what debugging output to include, but below is the output of e2fsck. (I would have

Ext3 filesystem aborting journal at random times (Maxtor 300GB disk)
Hi, Sorry if this is an old and fixed issue but I can't really seem to find a definitive explanation/fix to this in the mail lists. Ever since I upgraded to FC2 my server randomly decides that it can no longer access the disk and "aborts" the ext3 journal leaving it read-only as expected. I've seen the same errors on other mail list, explained away as disk or disk cable

Connecting from W95 to Samba Share
Hello group; This is a question that has been posted before, but I haven't found an answer in the archives or in the FAQ/docs. I've been thru the DIAGNOSIS.txt, and get stuck on net view \\machname from a W95 OSR2 box (error 53 ...). Setup: Solaris machine running Samba 2.0.0. I can use smbclient to connect to it from various HP, AIX, Solaris, and Linux boxes, and NT 4.0 clients work

Missing directories
I've asked this question before, but got no response so I'll try one more time... I am running Samba 1.9.18p4 under Solaris 2.5.1. The PC clients are a mix of NT 4.0, NT 3.5, and W95. I have customers that, when they connect to a share, they may not see all of the directories under that share. Others may connect to the same share at the same time, and see the missing directories. It

Problems accessing a W95 share
Hi! I'm trying to use a printer connected to a Win95 box from Linux but when I try 'smbclient -L win95_machine' I get the following message: SMBnegprot failed. myname=TARKUS destname=WIN95 - ERRSRV - 1311 I'm using samba-1.9.18p5. The access in the other way (W95 to Linux shares) works without any problems. When I set the printer as shared in the W95 box it is possible to

Two smbd's on same machine
Hi, I am planning to run Samba smbd within an HP MC/ServiceGuard cluster (2 machines, 2 packages). Essentially, this could involve (whilst it's not the usual scenario), having two smbd's running on the same machine, albeit listening on seperate IP addresses. They should not need to access any of the same directories. Is this a problem? Has anyone else on this list used smbd within

Culling dead smbd's?
I seem to be having a problem whereby every time a user fails to authenticate with Samba, smbd stops responding to that particular client and has to be restarted. Apart from 'what on earth's going wrong with my authentication', there are two things I'd like to know: firstly, is it the main smbd/all smbd's which lock, and secondly, if not is there any way (on SuSE Linux) to

Fwd: spawning smbd's
---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Jim Ballantine <j.ballantine at gmail.com> Date: Tue, Aug 30, 2016 at 7:16 AM Subject: spawning smbd's To: samba at lists.samba.org We are running a Red Hat Linux 6 system with samba 3.6.23 installed, and configured as a stand alone server. Matching two redhat servers
Help! I've got two new servers. I installed redhat v7.3 on one myself, and have got it to run samba successfully and connect to a W95 PC. The other was bought pre-installed with the same linux version, and I cannot get the W95 box to get beyond "No domain server was available...". As far as I see, \etc\samba\smb.conf files are identical, as are the \etc\hosts files. I'm using

What are my smbd's doing ? (was Re: secrets.tdb locking fun!)
Hi all, We're still suffering here with odd performance issues on our Samba 3.0.24 install here on our big chunky Solaris 9 box. The user perceived issue is slow performance (whilst browsing in Windows Explorer, or opening files from within applications etc.etc.) The obvious symptom on the server is a collection of smbd's at the top of the 'top' listing. 4 or 5 or so taking

did something in revision 68 break stubs?
Hi, I''ve been a happy user of Mocha for a while now. My current project is by far the most complicated I''ve ever worked on and Mocha has made testing it much easier than it would otherwise be. So, I was highly disturbed to come in this morning, run svn up and find that something in today''s update broke lots of my tests. I use Mocha as a Rails plugin under

SAMBA for OS/390 from W95 client gives 'no such file ...'
Hi all, We just got Samba for OS/390 up and running and it works fine. But we get a problem for some W95 PC's when they try to establish a network connection, the debuglevel 10 shows the following messages : --------------------------------------------------------------------------- lp_file_list_changed() file /etc/smb.conf
