Samba encrypt passwd
Hi,
I have samba installed on my Linux system (Red Hat
7.2), and
Windows 98 on another PC as a Samba client. Samba
works great
if PlainTextPassword is enabled. However, if
PlainTextPassword is
disabled on Windows client, connection to the Samba
shares no
longer accepted.
I believe I've done everything in order to make
encrypt passwd working:

I'm having problems to join a japanese W2K Client with
SrvPck 2 installed to my samba 2.2.5 PDC controlled
domain.
Other Clients are no problem (Win98, W2k engl., WXP german).
I check the regKey (for plaintextpassword; set to 1).
Reinstalled SevPck 2, but didn't help. the problem must be
on Client side because I having the same problem when

Can't take user info from an alternate file
I'm positive I did everything right to get Dovecot to take usernames and
passwords from /etc/dovecot/users, but it still goes for /etc/passwd and
/etc/shadow. The format of /etc/dovecot/users is
"alice:{PLAIN}plaintextpassword" Here's my "doveconf -n":
# 2.0.19: /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf
# OS: Linux 3.2.0-51-virtual x86_64 Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS

win2000 plaintext password
This is probably an FAQ, but my looking into the issue was unproductive.
When connecting to a samba share from a win2000 professional machine, I
get prompted for a password. Security is set to user on the samba
machine. I reenter the same password as the local user that I login as,
and then it accepts it.
I'm not using encrypted passwords, but I have added the PlainTextPassword
registry

using mapply to avoid loops
Hello, I would like to use mapply to avoid using a loop but for some reason, I can't seem to get it to work. I've included copies of my code below. The first set of code uses a loop (and it works fine), and the second set of code attempts to use mapply but I get a "subscript out of bounds" error. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Xj, Yj, and Wj are also lists, and s2,

[.data.frame speedup
Below is a version of [.data.frame that is faster
for subscripting rows of large data frames; it avoids calling
duplicated(rows)
if there is no need to check for duplicate row names, when:
i is logical
attr(x, "dup.row.names") is not NULL (S+ compatibility)
i is numeric and negative
i is strictly increasing

2.2.8: browsing and accessing Sun from Windows XP
Hello,
First....
I have followed BROWSING.txt exactly on setting up WINS to
assist with browse list collection. I set up a workgroup that just
includes a bunch of Suns running Samba 2.2.8 across about 6 networks.
$ smbclient -L <domain_master_browser_host> -U %
run on the domain master browser shows all of the hosts on the 6
different networks after a while. Great. And from an XP

Stupid problem with SAMBA and Windows NT4...
Hello!
Because I have the strangest problems at one of my customers, I want to ask a
few questions on what I could do to make his life easier...
Server: Samba 2.5.x on SuSE 8.1 (that samba which comes with SuSE 8.1)
Password-Encryption=NO PDC-Controller: NONE
This is a simple workgroup LAN.
There is also one Windows NT4.0 Server there, running since some
years.

as.matrix.data.frame() in R 1.9.0 converts to character when it should (?) convert to numeric
Conversion of a data frame to a matrix using as.matrix() when a
column of the data frame is POSIXt and all other columns are numeric
has changed in R 1.9.0 from R 1.8.1. The new behavior issues a
warning message and converts to a character matrix. In R 1.8.1, such
an object was converted to a numeric matrix.
Here is an example.

data frame subscription operator
Hi all,
I was looking at the data frame subscription operator (attached in the end
of this e-mail) and got puzzled by the following line:
class(x) <- attr(x, "row.names") <- NULL
This appears to set the class and row.names attributes of the incoming data
frame to NULL. So far I was not able to figure out why this is necessary -
could anyone help ?
The reason I am

Bug is as.matrix.data.frame with nested data.frame
Converting a data.frame with a nested data.frame to a matrix fails:
x <- structure(list(a = data.frame(letters)),
class = "data.frame",
row.names = .set_row_names(26))
as.matrix(x)
#> Error in ncol(xj) : object 'xj' not found
The offending code is here, in the definition of as.matrix.data.frame
(source/base/all.R):

VirtualProtect and app crash: what's your interpretation?
Here is my thought process on why the application crashes with a
protection violation reading a section of memory.
I used IDA to disassemble the app. Here's the section where it reads
from memory and crashes because of a protection violation:

fixup for debug package and R2.4.0
A number of users have spotted a terminal problem with the 'debug' package under R2.4.0, along the lines of

Error in attr(value, "row.names") <- rlabs :
row names must be 'character' or 'integer', not 'double'
This arose from a bug in 'rbind.data.frame' in R2.4.0 itself. The bug is fixed in R2.4.0 patched, so the
