NeTraverse going under
Is it true that NeTraverse just went under? Does anyone know any details? Do they have and plans to put Win4Lin into the public domain so that the Linux community can continue to support it?

Netraverse Win4Lin in trouble or out of busienss?
Does anybody know what is happening with Netraverse the company who makes Win4Lin? They appear to have closed down, their offices are shut down and phones disconnected. Their internal user newsgroup is saying most of their developers have been fired. Their Web site (www.netraverse.com) looks like business for ususal. I wonder what happens if you try to buy anything from them - I'll let

BackgroundRB on Windows: UNIXServer required!
I have Backgroundrb working with a Rails project on my OS X box at work, but when I attempt to run migrations or tests at home on my windows box, it fails stating: UNIXServer required! If I remove Backgroundrb from the plugins directory, things work on Windows so I know this is somehow related to Backgroundrb. Does anyone have a tip on what might be going on? Thanks, Nathan -------------- next

LDAP authentication and server name
Hello, I am running Samba 3.0.10 under Debian. I have the Samba server running with security=ADS, and I can save files to Samba shares with my windows credentials. We now have some users that need to save files to a share using their UNIX user permissions. To this end, I have set up an LDAP password back end with OpenLDAP 2.1.30, and populated the database with the IDEALX smbldap-tools. So I

My "needs". Can Wine be a solution for me?.
Hello all: I need to use MS Access 97 and MS Word 97 in my job. I need too to visit every day a web that is designed to be viewed exclusively with MS Internet Explorer. These are the things that keep me attached to Windows 98. I tried to solve the paranoic constant rebooting of the computer with a VMWare virtual machine but it's too resource-wasting. Before beginning to spend time on

Wine without a Windows partition
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Is it possible to setup wine without a Windows partition? I have a Debian 2.2-r2 system and want to run a few Windows apps, mostly games, but don't want to go through all the bs of resizing a partition, creating a new one and putting Windows on my laptop. Any chance of being able to do it without a dedicated partition? - -- Darryl L. Pierce

Xara X Install or Execute
I'm trying to run Xara X either from native windows directory or from local fake windows directory. When I run it from windows dir, I get the splash screen and then it hangs. When I try to install locally (using msi installer) it doesn't work. Anybody have this installed or running? This is the last thing I need for a fully functional DTP box! It would be a shame to have to quit

Kernel Question
OK- A dumb question. Will a "generic"(kernel.org) kernel work with Centos 4? My reason for asking- I'm needing to upgrade from RH9, and would rather go ahead and go with 4 for the 2.6 kernel, but I need a patched kernel (Win4Lin), and I'm not sure they will offer a prepatched version (though they probably will for EL4). Thanks! -- Chris Bryant

AutoCAD 14 with wine... anyone have any luck with this?
It looks bad from the (possibly outdated) list on the winehq web site. I am also extremely interested in running r14 on Wine or possibly some other emulator. Any suggestions other than WINE??? Office (2K) options on Linux
I am just starting to migrate towards Linux (RedHat 7.1 Burned and one trial install on another machine went well). However I do alot of work for other companies on Office (EspeciallyExcel) (generally 2K) and would like to be able to do so without rebooting. AFAICT I have a few options. One is to have a dedicated windows box and use a program such as VNC or Exceed to view it (I don't like

NeTraverse Win4Lin 5.0
Anybody get win4lin 5.0 running on CentOs? I have a Ibm Thinkpad 600 running centos 3.3. I tried running the win4lin installer which downloaded a supported kernel and installed but when I went to reboot the laptop, the drivers for my wireless card were missing along with usb support. Then when the laptop went into run level 5 nothing happens. Then the x server throughs an error about a bad config.

Microsoft "Windows for Linux"
-cross posted to comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine- Microsoft should consider producing "Windows for Linux". It could be their own version of Wine, but it would be nearly 100% compatible with the latest version of Windows. Microsoft could require that users have a retail copy of Windows to make this work. It's a win-win situation. Linux users could run nearly all of the available

[PATCH] rework master-to-worker signaling to use a pipe
Signaling using normal kill(2) is preserved, but the master now prefers to signal workers using a pipe rather than kill(2). Non-graceful signals (:TERM/:KILL) are still sent using kill(2), as they ask for immediate shutdown. This change is necessary to avoid triggering the ubf (unblocking function) for rb_thread_call_without_gvl (and similar) functions extensions. Most notably, this fixes

[Weft QDA users] weft and linux software requirements
Hello, I would really like to install and try Weft, but as a Gentoo user, it seems I would have to downgrade many of my installed packages, complicating other dependencies and so forth, to meet the requirements listed on the Weft page, especially wxwidgets 2.4 and wxruby. Is there a version, maybe an alpha or beta, that works with wxruby2 and wxwidgets 2.6? John Norvell Visiting Scholar Pitzer
