NT & Win98 slow copies
Howdy all: For those who are curious (eg, Peter de Groot <pdgtech@wantree.com.au>) here are the (I think) relevant posts from recent samba digests concerning win98 and or NT performance problems copying files between local drives and samba shares. It looks like there should be some new options to play with in the next samba release. Could Jeremy or Andrew confirm? (BTW, nice

problems with samba 1.9.18p8
I recently installed samba 1.9.18p8. Since then, we get the following error: "No domain server was available to validate your password. You may not be able to gain access to some network resources." after the server has been running for >48 hours. If I stop and restart the server, everything is ok again. Our samba server is a Sun Ultra 2170 running Solaris 2.5.1. Any help will

MAX_OPEN_FILES - message & changeing
Nguyen Cao Dat asked about this: ERROR! Out of file structures - perhaps increase MAX_OPEN_FILES? As it happens I have started getting them too - on a PC Application server - the cause seems to be lots of files needed to be open to run applications - Lotus apps seems to be a particular culprit, but experiments indicate that even opening help on Microsoft Word opens 13 files! TCP_NODELAY problem
smbclient is broken if TCP_NODELAY is enabled. I am running FreeBSD 2.2.7 Stable. 1. Enable socket options = TCP_NODELAY 2. Run smbclient to access a share on a Win95 box 3. Turn 'recurse' on 4. cd to a directory that contains one directory and no files 5. Do a dir 6. The files which live in the directory below the default directory will not be seen. 7. Eliminate TCP_NODELAY and they

SUMMARY: Amanda 2.3.0.5-Samba 1.9.16p11 PC backups...
My whole problem as far as samba was concerned was not compiling with DES support *and* that I did compile with FAST_SHARE_MODES. One clue was this in the samba.log. file. I then did a dejanews search for smb_shm_open and came up with that portion of the solution. ERROR smb_shm_open : mmap failed with code 11 The DES portion came from just reading the WinNT.txt file that came with Samba. I

I'm a new linux user trying to run samba on Linuxppc R5 but smbd doesn't appear to be responding properly. Both nmbd and smbd are configured as daemons and netstat lists netbios-ssn as listening. I can't find anything else that would conflict starting from inetd. Nmbd appears to work as I can list the available servers and the server is seen by the clients but I don't need

newbie needs help
Hi everyone, let me start with an apology for what may turn out to be my own ignorance. I'm new to samba, and relatively new to linux, so please be gentle. :) I am currently having a problem seeing the shares on my samba server. i am running 2.0.3 on linuxppc 1999 on a Macintosh G3 266. My Win95 OSR-2 486 can see the server, but cannot access the shares. when i attempt to connect with

Diagnosis Test Pass, But...
Here's my setup: Caldera Open Linux Lite (kernel 2.0.29) Samba 2.0.4a Windows Domain (Two Windows NT 4.0 Servers -- one PDC, one BDC -- and numerous Windows NT 4.0 Workstations) I can see my Linux box in Network Neighborhood on my Windows NT boxes. I can open the Linux box and see the top level shares available. When I try to open a share I see one or two anonymous folders. Anyone

Intermittent failure
Hello. I'm in need of some help to shed some light on a strange problem. The box is running Samba 4.1.7 on FreeBSD 9.2/amd64 and I suspect (though I'm not sure) all troubles started after the upgrade from 4.1.6. The setup is quite simple: no AD, no LDAP, only one server. A command as simple as "smbclient -U user //SERVER/SHARE", if fired up several times in a row on the

samba and clearcase (PR#7829)
Hi Jeremy, thanks for the tip but ...(there's always a but) if I do this (increase MAX_OPEN_FILES to 1024), I get an error in log.smb: Can't create or use IPC area. Error was File exists I'm using FAST_SHARE_MODES to compile samba. Does this take up too much space or is there something else wrong? Clearcase, Samba, and mnode values
Hi all -- I recently temporarily deployed an upgraded Clearcase server (7.1.2.3) on 64 bit RHEL 5.6. With it I was using Redhat's release of Samba for that version of the OS -- 3.0.33. The system has 32 GB of memory and within 12 hours, it would be down into swap. Maximum active licenses used is 36 but a more typical load is 18-25 users having a Clearcase license at once. Clearcase
