Samba domain users VS "rogue" NT servers.
Hi All, We're having some problems using Samba and supposedly "standalone" rogue NT servers on one of our network domains. When an authenticated samba-served NT domain user on a client machine tries to access a share on a non BDC/PDC NT server that it part of the same samba domain, the standalone NT server sends it a message saying "Your logon time at NTDOMAIN has

Transferring medium-size NT fileserver to Samba; HOWTO...?
Hello, we want to move the main fileserver for our office, a standalone NT box, off NT and onto a Linux box running Samba. On the NT box we've got: around 100 users, 20 groups, 10k directories, and 100k files. I'm a Unix admin with nil Windows experience. I've installed Samba 2.0.5a and have been poring over the docs and archives for a few days. I find myself at a bit of a loss as

Re: Win9x login script drive mapping problem - more info
Many thanks to those who have replied so far - still no luck unfortunately. It would appear that I was ni=ot quite specific enough in the original post re: the OS version I am using - it is Windows 98SE, NOT vanilla 98. As for the login script I am using, I tried originally with the NT/2K script I use for all the other machines (logical as they are all NT/2K!): #### Script starts here ####

Win9x login script drive mapping problem - addendum
As an addendum to my original message (copied below), I have tried a couple of things and have found the following: Running a one line login script, eg net use * \\server\share with an echo command produces the following output: The syntax is incorrect. For help, type NET USE /? at the command prompt. Yet running the same script one the machine as soon after login as possible results in he

WINBIND configuration and NT Authentication]
Hi, Yes it's possible to authenticate users from win 2000 server with winbind. For me the PAM configuration was the hardest part. I used mandrake 9 and it has a realy good pre config. And if you want to modify the folder/file permissions from NT/W2k PDC then don't use ReiserFS as the filesystem. Use either EXT3 or XFS. Mayby the ReiserFS 4 will have the ACL support. I have had

Just looked at your prior mail, and it was using 'usbhid' based on your output. If 'modprobe' exists on your router, what response do you get to 'modprobe usbhid'? - Tim On February 24, 2014 2:56:16 AM CST, Tim Dawson <tadawson at tpcsvc.com> wrote: >Either it is not loaded, or the usb serial and/or hid drivers are not >loaded, which appear to have been used

Help with failing Nut slave/client connection
HI again, Sorry I didn't mean to cause a security debate. I'd like things to be secure of course, but I've got a dilema that I don't use DHCP and instead have a block of static IPs from my ISP. So my nut server has 68.68.452.02 for example and my two slave clients have 68.68.452.03 and .04 ideally I'd like to allow access for the whole static IP block to access the nut

Fedora 40 nut-server not starting at boot
OK, looking at this on my RH8 test image . . . The first thing that I note, is that the *only* thing that needed to be set to "enabled" in systemctl (IE "systemctl enable ....") is the nut.target entry. All else here are disabled, and "drug along" by nut.target which ensures that they come up in sequence. In nut.target I added to the "After" and

Book Recommendation
Stephen, I see lots of answers with packages and resources, but not book recommendations. I have used Introduction to Data Technologies by Paul Murrell (https://www.stat.auckland.ac.nz/~paul/ItDT/) to teach SQL and database design and would recommend looking at it as a possibility. Help - samba problem after upgrade - Win95 can't logon
Hello. I am still running 1.9.17 because when I upgrade to 1.9.18 (several different patch levels) my windows 95 clients cannot log on - it times out saying that no domain controller is available. I am using the same smb.conf from the earlier setup, and smbclient has no problems connecting - can someone give me some help on this one? In particular, what is the best way to go about debugging

logon script with Win95
I've been having some trouble loggin on to the home share on my Win95 boxes. I've checked the archive, and I've seen this posted before, but no solution posted. My smb.conf maps home directories correctly with NT logons, but not with Win95 PCs. It maps the profiles directory instead of the home directory. If someone could take a quick look at my smb.conf and let me know what I hosed

ok, there's a new file docs/PROFILES.txt. the three (copyright) contributors are, at present: john terpestra, bruce cook and wolfgang ratzka. those people with cvs access could you possibly check out samba/docs/PROFILES.txt and review it. or, as: http://samba.anu.edu.au/cgi-bin/cvsweb/samba/docs/PROFILES.txt

Help with failing Nut slave/client connection
Tough to get a spoofed IP to actually route back to it's host though, so other than those unfortunate to be on a flat network, still not too much of an issue . . . - Tim On 09/12/2016 04:46 PM, Stuart D. Powerware (Eaton) Prestige 9 UPS
I noted some correspondence from several years back about supporting this device with bcmxcp, and the problems therein. Since I have one of these UPS units, still going strong, and the Eaton LanSafe stuff has finally caused me enough grief to abandon it, I figured I'd take a look at this. The issue is not that bad - the bcmxcp driver query of the topology block (2 bytes!) is returning

UPS/NUT with openSUSE 13.1
Thanks again Tim. I installed openSUSE from scratch, without installing libusb anything. I tried configure, and it failed because it couldn't find libusb. I used ldconfig to see what the system could see. It found 3 entries with "libusb" in them. I then built and installed the last update of libusb-0.1 (not libusb-compat or libusb-1.0). I tried configure, and it ran without
