vfs_fruit causes delay in listing directories for Windows clients
Listing directories with many files (10000+) from a Windows client is nociceably slower when vfs_fruit is enabled on the samba server compared to the same setup without vfs_fruit. On my setup it's roughly 2.5 times slower. To me it looks like this is caused by the getxattr call which is only present with vfs_fruit activated and introduces an additional delay of ~ 0.00033 s per listed

vfs_fruit causes delay in listing directories for Windows clients
Hai, Can you tell the following that helps. OS ? Samba Version? ( pre-builded or source ) Kernel version? I think you need to wait for 4.9.4 if all patches ive seen on vfs_fruit are getting in. These might help. Go through bugzilla, you might find more about this here. Greetz, Louis > -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- > Van: samba [mailto:samba-bounces at lists.samba.org]

Macintosh + Samba integration
I have been searching through the docs and on the web to no avail. I work at a university and we are moving our fileservers to new hardware. The problem is, nothing seems to integrate Mac's and Win box's happily. We have a large user base using samba already, but when mac's pick up the same share via CAP, CAP creates files to deal with the dual 'stream' nature of files from a

"stuck" new directories and Mac Finder hangs after upgrade to 4.2.11
Hi, I’ve been searching online for a few days and am still hurting for an answer, otherwise I wouldn’t jump into a list and start asking questions straight away. We’re a 99% Mac shop running El Capitan (10.11.4). We’d been running Samba 4.2.3 on FreeBSD 10.0/ZFS for a while with minimal problems. I recently upgraded to 4.2.11 because of Badlock. Now when users create a new folder then try to

Slow Samba - Winbind - NT PDC - low bandwidth - Why slow lookups?
No comments on this one...? Did earlier versions of winbind go out to the PDC for information for each and every file that is listed in an explorer window? The is also a like delay in listing directory contents on the linux box (ie ls- al) ========================================== Hi all.. I apologies for the length. Run a very old Samba version (2.2.5 - Yes security problems) and winbind

Slow NFS writes
I guess I'm sort of surprised and I expected better performance I have a new server set up with RAID 10 drives (6) Repeated a number of times and though I am clumsy with stop watch timing, these numbers appear to be close enough for government work... Server, CentOS 5.2 and updated earlier today, just installed a week ago. Client, Macintosh G4, OS X 10.4.11 NFS Mount is done with the

normalizePath is sometimes very slow for nonexistent UNC paths
I'm having an issue with occasionally slow-running calls to normalizePath. If the path is a non-existent UNC path, then normalizePath sometimes takes 6 or 7 seconds to run, rather than its usual few microseconds. My big problem is that I can't reliably reproduce this across machines. The example below generates one or two slow runs out of 10000 on my Windows machine. I haven't been

Very slow network after Samba3 upgrade with 2k clients.
anyone having, had, or even have any thoughts on the issue described below? its killing me.... The short description of the problem is: using direct to server UNC type paths, we see 'normal' speeds. Going threw a DFS (re)director, we see very bad performance from any machine running 3.0.*, but not 2.2.3a. We make heavy use of DFS. This service is on a machine named

Samba share mapped to a virtual directory via UNC within IIS doesn't work
I have a Samba share that I've created from a Linux box. I've mapped this sucessfully to drive in Windows 2003 server. I'm also able to read/write to it under Windows explorer just fine. It's using user security so I have to enter the username and password defined in the Linux box when connecting to this share. I then mapped a virtual directory under IIS to the UNC name of this

Capturing Quicktime Files into a Samba Share
I'm hoping somebody can explain why I'm having this peculiar problem capturing quicktime video files with Final Cut Pro (running on OS X 10.3.4) and storing them on my Linux server. The Linux server has both Samba 3 and Netatalk 1.6.4. I have the server set up so that I can connect from the Mac to various Linux directories using either Samba or Netatalk. When I connect with

Netatalk Support?
Reply-To: Hi When configuring samba there is an option to turn on netatalk-support. I did this, because we need to see the shared on both windows and mac, but I couln't see any difference in sambas behaviour. Netatalk stored the ressource-fork, and some files the Mac-Finder created in Directories calles ".AppleDouble". I hoped, that with netatalk-support samba would handle those
