Junk e-mail .... help needed!!!
Hi!! Of late, I'm getting a lot of un-solicited mails from this list, and inspite of un-subscribing mails, messages, threats , nothing really seems to work... My question: 1. Is there any way I can 'avoid' or 'bounce' incoming messages at the mail-server level?? 2. I cannot change my address (alias) as such... since this involves sending reminders to God knows how many

Network time sync and reverse NetBios name lookup
I made a somewhat deep check for time synchronization and I couldn't find what I was looking for. What I need to do is synchronize the clock on a Linux box to the clock on an NT server. I can't use NTP or any other protocol because the NT box doesn't understand it. Any pointers would be great. The second issue is that I need to do (if possible) a reverse NetBios name lookup by

problem with printer
Hi, I've a strange problem with samba 1.9.15pl4 and an Epson LQ2070 printer (not that I think that samba release or printer type are relevant ..). I'm using samba with linux to offer print share to a win3.11 LAN. A little drawing: Win PC <----> File Server <----> Axis print server <----> printer (spool dir) The printer is connected to an Axis printserver

How to get nmbd to work?
I have NEVER been able to get nmbd to work in anything even remotely approximating a usable fashion. All I want it to do is DNS lookups. I can't even get it to do that reliably. It looks in some cases like it isn't even sending a response back to the querying clients. When I do a request that fails, I get this: --- nmb packet from 192.55.114.4(3175) header: id=8172 opcode=Query(0)

Configuring printer drivers
Hi, I've been running a samba server for our small group of users (about 15) for approx the last 18 months with great success. We use the server for both file and printer sharing. I had to make some modifications to the printer configuration today, and I've got a quick question which arose from my tinkering. I wanted to configure the server such that each of our printers can be used

Print Share Name Length
Hi all, We (the Samba Team) need some feed back from our user community. Anyone want to help out? All you need to do is post us a one liner. Tell us if you want 8 character length limited print share names or larger. If you really must have longer print share names - then how many characters? Should we limit the length? ADS membership with Samba 3.0.4
Hi, We are in the process of evaluating the possibility of porting Samba 3.0.4 to VxWorks. Features wise we don't see any problems. But our main concern is on the security. Since we do not have the concept of Users and Groups on VxWorks, we cannot have any authentications as such. So, the other possibility is to pass on the authentication to another Server on the network, typically a AD

ADS membership with Samba 3.0.4
Hi, Thanks for that information. So, now if I am to include Winbind, I would like to know what other system libraries (Linux based) winbind uses. The deciding factor now would be on how easy or tough it would be to get these libraries running on some thing like VxWorks. As far as I remember, in the 2.2.x series, if Samba was configured with security = DOMAIN, then smbd would connect to the

Three new releases
Hi, I'm announcing two new releases of opus, along with the first release of the new libopusenc library. First for opus, we just fixed a bad bug in the surround encoding code that would cause very bad quality on signals beyond a certain amplitude. Thanks to Franziska Trojahn and others from HfT Leipzig for finding this issue through their listening test[1] (the quality of the two bad files

IBM 4039 Laserprinter. Weird problem.
I have menaged to setup Samba services to share an IBM 4039 printer and have tested another printer (Epson LX-800) on the PC. It works fine. The weird thing, the IBM4039 will not print anything. All the jpbs will be spooled. For each print job to be printed. I will need to switch off the printer and switch it on again. Have anyone encountered such problems before? I know there is basically

Polycom registration errors
I'm evaluating using Polycom phones for our call center and I've set up my first phone (a SoundPoint 560) to give it a try. The phone is working and can successfully place and receive calls. But every minute, there's an error in the log file: chan_sip.c: Registration from '<sip:6193644850 at jtsd05>' failed for '192.168.200.99' - Username/auth name

Picolena, a ferret+rails documents search engine
Hi everybody! I am proud to present you a small project I have been working on for a while: Picolena, a documents search engine written in Rails. ( http://picolena.devjavu.com/ ). It obviously uses Ferret for indexing and searching, and adds some plain text extractors in order to index OOffice.org, pdf and MS Office documents (and some others as well). Everything is packed in a gem (gem install
