subnet browsing crappy solution!
Trying all the stupid methods to solve the issue of Win2k hosts from different subnets that can't be seen in the NetworkNeighbourhood when server is Samba on Linux (including reading the F***ing manuals and not finding anything useful or browsing through the source of samba until my eyes fall in my mouth) I have decided that they were, well... ,stupid and chose to try crappy solutions! Browsing across subnets - some more problems
Hi all, I am still battling to get browsing across subnets to work. I just need some clarification on some issues. I understand the following things to be the case, please correct me if I am wrong: - Machines on a subnet will periodically announce their existance by broadcasting to everyone their identity - Other machines will hear these broadcasts, and add the machines to their browse lists. -

WINBIND on a VERY LARGE FOREST
Hi all! I'm trying to setup a linux samba server as a domain member of a SINGLE FOREST MULTI DOMAINS. The forest is a 2 servers acting as a global catalog. Other domains are child domain with implicit trust with forest. I setup a linux server with samba as a domain member to work with squid, authenticating users and verify user's groups membership. I need to allow access to squid only to

MOH different question
Is there anyway for a sip station to play MoH out of the speaker? I know I can do it by calling the station and putting it on hold. For example: On a samsung pbx with MoH, if you goto one of the workstaions and press a button The moh plays out of the speaker. Is there any way to do this with asterisk? kvno problem when accessing "bdc" as \\domain.com
Hi! I have a samba4 domain with two r/w directory controllers. DNS is set up so that domain.com name adresses both servers for redundancy. But workstaions can't contact second server with address \\domain.com becuse the kvno is different that first servers kvno and when using \\domain.com address the kvno seems to be always first servers kvno. Can I somehow increase the second servers kvno

Mongrel proxied through Apache won''t serve images
I followed the tutorial from Coda Hale[1] on setting up Mongrel/Mongrel_cluster and Apache to move away from my current Apache+FastCGI setup. The mongrels are all working fine, and Apache is proxying all dynamic requests through to the cluster using proxy balance. Strange thing is now, that all my images in public/images aren''t loading at all, if I access them directly I just get a

Gnome-terminal $PATH
Hi all, Usually I work in X environment (XCFE) with extensive use of x terminal; concretely, I use Gnome-terminal. Sometimes I change to root to do some admin tasks. But often it seems a few commands are not availables. The key is in the $PATH value: echo $PATH (in login shell, interactive ):

Only Netbeui on the client is it possible ?
HI all ! I've read in a doc, that Samba is talking only with the clients where Netbios over TCP/IP is running ! I guess it is true, but are there any solution maybe to connect with a client where only the NETBEUI is the only one installed protocol ? It would be from DOS, I have a DOS boot disk which is waking up the Netbeui, and it would be difficult to prepare it to wake up the TCP/IP !

Hello all, my first post to this list. I do a lot of experiments using a paired sampling design and I would get a lot of mileage out of figures like this, if I can make it work! Any advice would be appreciated. my email is: cory.champagn at gmail.com. Thanks! #define dummy variables and a dataframe: y1 <- c(1:20) x1 <-

One domain w/ multiple subnets. Do a "join" for each subnet?
We've got Samba 2.2.2 up and running fine on an RS/6000 (AIX) machine w/ NT authentication. We have one domain w/ multiple subnets, and need users on these different subnets to have access to the shares on this machine. We've tested from a different subnet than the one we originally ran smbpasswd on, and it fails (prompting for the passwd to the share...when it works fine from the

Wine and NetBEUI
Hello, A client of mine has this ancient software called VideoPrinter (working on Win98) and an ancient hardware that connects to the PC through both LAN cable and serial (COM) cable. I decided to give this software a try with wine 0.9.60 running on Slackware 12, kernel 2.6.23.4. The software installs without problems and after adding the appropriate registry keys the COM is recognized. But the

Samba and netbeui
Hello all, There is still a use for netbeui (non-routed protocol) in the network. If you are using a VPN client that does not allow split tunneling, you can still access printers on another local system with netbeui. I would like to remove the windows system and have my print shares on my Linux system with Samba. Is all consideration of netbeui within the Linux/Samba environment gone?
