Win NT Authorization problems...
After a nights rest (and a successful solution to my NT authorization problems) and short apology is in order to the list. My attitude in the last message was less than helpful and I apologize. On a helpful note here is what I learned: Regardless of the interpretation of any of the samba documentation Samba-1.9.18 and later versions fully support DES encryption for WindowsNT without *ANY*

Just to update this, I'm going to upgrade to samba4 but it won't be for a few days yet, I'll keep this thread updated with what happens. Only one user can play shared OGGs
Hi Everybody, I was wondering if a few of you might be able to send some brainpower my way regarding a problem I've been having. My Samba 3 server serves OGG files to serveral Windows XP clients, all on the same subnet. As "user_a", I've been ripping OGGs on one windows box and saving them to /home/user_a/ on the server. I can then copy these files from user_a's home

Success! (was Re: samba print server
Hello , I guess I'm talking to myself but I finally got the printer to work changing to security = share. My home directories still require authentication. I guess security = user doesn't permit printers to be active. I'm headed to replace the redhat with gentoo so that I can have just the right amount of software on the server and move my file server to another box with a fat hard

Outlook and MS-Outlook
I am having some issues with Samba and Outlook... We just upgraded from 1.9.17 to 1.9.18 and now we seem to have some severe slow downs in using Outlook. The mailbox.pst files are stored in everyones home directories that are located on a linux share. Before when people searched for a name it would take no time. Now it acts like on every search that anyone does or opening of a calendar, etc. it is

Uncooperative Dos Share
I have a server running Red Hat Linux 5.2 with samba 1.9.18 installed (at least that's the rpm package). The server itself is mounting and sharing two SCSI cdrom drives - the kind that are capable of changing up to six cdroms each. The OS mounts the drives correctly. I can see the files. I have shared the drive contents and can map access to them over a Win95 network. I have set the

Password problems with Samba on Alpha system
We have tried a couple of versions of Samba on an DEC Alpha running Tru64. Most users can use this perfectly but a few get rejected at the password authentication, and get logged on as guest users. Machine is running NIS, and Makefile was generated automatically. Win98 and Win2000 machines have had the "plain text password" patch to the registry. Problem seems to lie on the server as

spauratic loss of machines.
Hello, I've got a samba/win98 problem. This occurs with samba 2.05a and slackware linux 7.0 and freebsd 3.4-release and samba 2.06. I've got two machines, one a pure 98 machine, the other split 50-50 linux and freebsd. All is looking well, samba is my local master, will always win elections etc. Both machines show up and all is good until I restart samba. At that point no matter which

Gmail style conversations
Hello, I am wondering if there is any way to support Gmail style conversation when using Dovecot? Someway of associating all inbound and sent emails..? I know that some clients let you display the emails in "conversation" which kinda does what Gmail does, however, it does not associate the Sent emails with it. Thanks for any information.

New Samba alpha release - 1.9.18alpha13
The Samba Team are pleased to announce Samba 1.9.18alpha13. This code release is very close to what we hope will become the 1.9.18 official release. Because of this, we would encourage as many people as possible to download and test this new release on their particular systems, in order to ensure as stable an official release as possible. Please bear in mind that this is still an alpha

newbie help, please?
Hi, I'm trying to get a Samba (version 3.0.8pre1-0.pre1.3) to play with some WinXP boxes. I'm using WORKGROUPS, not DOMAIN. The server is running under Fedora Core 3. And I'm following the troubleshooting chapter in the O'Reilly book, Chapter 9. I cannot browse the shares from my WinXP machine. I CAN browse and access shares okay as a client on the Samba server machine. I
