Use of Second Monitor Question
In teaching I'd like to be able to display a R-graphics window on a wall projection display keeping the R-console on the computer monitor. And so I ask--- Is there a way to move a graphics window out of the Rgui window to a second monitor leaving the R Console window in the Rgui window on the first monitor? Either a Windows or Linux solution would be just fine. --jed diem

Hashing table based on FWMARK
We currently use iptables, matching packets based on IP address and marking them with an ID. Multiple IP addresses can be marked with the same ID. We then filter based on the ID. We have close to 2000 filters now and I''m looking into hashing tables. Is there any way to create a hashing filter based on the fwmark? Paul C. Diem PCDiem@FoxValley.net

qdisc/filter to drop all packets
I''m looking for a way to configure a qdisc or filter to drop all packets. The logic behind this is that I''m using the u32 hashing tables to get move my filters from iptables to tc filters. This will translate into much less per-packet processing for me. However, I need a way to drop any packets that don''t match any of the filters. Paul C. Diem PCDiem@FoxValley.net

Problem with multiple factors in nlme
Dear R-experts, I have a problem to formulate non linear mixed effects when more than one explanatory variable is present. I'm using R 1.1.1 under Linux. The version number of the nlme library is 3.1-7. "help(nlme)" says that among several possibilities it is possible to code fixed effects according to fixed = a1 + a2 + ... + an ~ X1 + X2 + ... + Xm where the left hand side

Strange behaviour using .Fortran
Hello everybody, I observed some strange behaviour of R (0.64.1/Linux 2.0.25) when trying to use FORTRAN-libraries. I first downloaded "ALGORITHM AS 304" from StatLib. All I changed at the code, was to substitute "REAL"-routines by "DOUBLE PRECISION". Compiling went o.k.: > g77 -fpic -O2 -shared -o rtest.o fisher.f ("g77 --version" gives 2.7.2.1)

Y-limits of barplots
Hello everybody, I frequently have to produce barplots from variables the natural variation of which is far away from zero. A typical range would be, say from -16 to -28. So, the following example should give an "honest" presentation: x<-c(-20,-22,-21,-28) barplot(x,beside=T,ylim=c(-18,-30)) But using anything else but "0" for the first element of ylim leads to strange

Tripp-Lite SMART1500XL
I've having no success trying to use the tripplite driver to communicate with a Tripp-Lite SMART1500XL via the serial port. I'm using the cable that was included with the UPS. The tripplite driver simply returns "Failed - giving up..." after 20 seconds. I have verified that the tripplite driver is sending ":W" out the serial port. I am able to use Tripp-Lite's
