CANNOT BROWSE (the solution)
Hi all. I?m using the binary distribution of SAMBA 1.9.16 on SCO3.2v4.2. Last weekend we got a new server. Installed all applications and all worked fine (as expected) ... but: the win/nt clients could map the shares, but they could not browse the SAMBA-box! I checked the "browseable=" options, but everything looked ok. Increasing the debug level and stepping through the logfiles

allowing anyone to browse and print (NT 4.0 SP3, 9.18p10)
I'm having lots of hassles and troubles since I moved to 1.18p10: 1\ Why do I need a smbpasswd and have to have a user equivalent on the unix machine when an NT user wants to print via an smb printer? My NT/Win users shouldn't need to know anything about unix and I don't want to tell them "you have to log into my unix machine and invoke

No network neighborhood
Recently, we made a switch from 1.9.18 to 2.0.3. Under 1.9.18, we had local master turned off to prevent a browser election war. However, under some network configurations, (where the system was alone on a Workgroup), the system would, quite appropriately, not appear in the network neighborhood. So for 2.0.3 we changed the config file to allow election participation (local master = yes).

Unix/NT file conversion problems
Hi We are having some problems - the majority of our files require ascii transfers between our unix servers and PCs. They are however being transferred as binary for some reason even though they are just plain text files. This means (when going from unix to pc) the files come down without a carriage return at the end of lines. And when going from pc to unix they end up with ^M on the end of each

lost ability to apt-get install r-base=3.4.2-1trusty1
Dear Krzysztof, I would suggest to have a look at Docker images. https://hub.docker.com/r/rocker/r-ver/ provides images for different versions of R. You could even create your own image with all the packages and other dependencies that you need. See e.g. our image at https://hub.docker.com/r/inbobmk/rstable/ Best regards, ir. Howto hook up a Wfw 3.11 client to browse Samba shares on Solaris boxes...
Hi, Sorry if this is the documentation somewhere; however, I need a little tutorial help on howto configure a Wfw client for Samba: I have two samba servers, 1.9.18p2, on a couple of our Sun machines running Solaris 2.3. I know how to gain access from various Win95 machines in our group; however, I was requested to set up access for a Win3.11 machine today, and I'm kinda stumped. This

lost ability to apt-get install r-base=3.4.2-1trusty1
Hello, I need a specific version of R installed for consistency reasons. I do the standard setup steps: echo "deb https://cran.ma.imperial.ac.uk/bin/linux/ubuntu trusty/" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys E084DAB9 sudo apt-get update And then a simple install call, which used to work just fine some time ago, tosses an

No automatic refresh?
Hi! I've been struggling with this install of Samba 2.0.4b on Linux/x86 2.0.36. All of the client machines run Windows NT 4, SP 3. I'm exporting /tmp as pub, and if I right click in the folder and create a new folder, it doesn't show up until I go to 'view' and 'refresh'. If I delete something, it doesn't go away until I refresh. Why? Output of testparm:

Using NT to browse Samba shares
I'm wondering if it is possible in any way to allow guest browsing of Samba shares from an Nt workstation. This subject seems to be covered in Recent-FAQs.txt: ->> start the explorer on a win-nt workstation and select network. I find ->> my unix server running samba, but I can not see the list of shares ->> unless I am a user, who is known in the smbpasswd of the unix

Win NT Authorization problems...
After a nights rest (and a successful solution to my NT authorization problems) and short apology is in order to the list. My attitude in the last message was less than helpful and I apologize. On a helpful note here is what I learned: Regardless of the interpretation of any of the samba documentation Samba-1.9.18 and later versions fully support DES encryption for WindowsNT without *ANY*

smbmount cannot browse large NT directories
This is a problem I get with various versions of Samba, up to and including 2.0.7. (The version shipped with Debian.) I have an NT machine (4.0, service-pack 3 using NTFS) exporting a filesystem to Linux through smbmount. Specific directories are not browsable. By that I mean that "ls *" comes up blank, however if you know the filename, "ls foo.txt" will still find the

Problems running apps from Samba 2.0.0 share on NT 4.0
Ever since I upgraded from Samba 1.9.18 to 2.0.0, I've been having problems with applications started from a Samba share dying silently, or with an Illegal Instruction message, on NT 4.0 Workstation. Since the only configuration change has been the Samba upgrade, that would seem to be the orgin of the problem. Below is my smb.conf file, in case I have something configured (or not configured)

intermittent failure of ability to connect to samba share from win (NT/2k) client
First, my installation is samba 2.2.8 running as a daemon (not inetd) on Solaris 8 configured to use a WINS server and provide authentication via a PDC (same host as WINS server). I do have an lmhosts file in the samba /lib directory with the PDC/WINS server address in it. My globals section; [global] workgroup = WORKGROUP netbios name = SAMBASERVER security =

NT network can't browse Samba
Hi, I'm trying to setup a Linux box with Samba (1.9.18p10) and it isn't having any luck making a home for itself on the network. If I go to a Windows95 machine, I see all (well most) machines on the net there, but not the Linux box. I can also not see any other machines from the Linux box. Here is log.nmbd output that repeats every 5 seconds or so: find_workgroup_on_subnet: workgroup

Réf. : Backing up both AIX and NT using Samba
Hi Joe, What you can do is to tell the tape drive to not rewind after the first backup. You have to select the dedicated device for that. If my memory serves me, the device which does not rewind at backup end is /dev/rmt{x}.4 or something like that. So, the batch could be like this: tar cvf /dev/rmt{x}.4 myfiles_from_AIX smbclient ... -Tcga /dev/rmt{x} #after the NT backup,

Connection from WIN95 succeeds and from NT fails - why ?
Hello ! We have Samba 1.9.18p3 intalled on Digital Unix 4.0, and succeed to connect from Win95 to some directory on that Digital. However, when we try the same from NT system installed on the very same PC, the connection fails, with the following error message: "System error 1240 has occurred. The account is not authorized to login from this station" Username and domain are the same
