Faking system time
Hello all. I am trying to use WINE to make a windoze-only development environment (very rudimentar, command line cross-compiler and stuff) under Linux, because GNU make is far superior from the M$'s 'nmake'. Anyway, I have some trouble with expirating licenses and stuff, and the solution is to revert the system date back to some valid thing and then compile. Since I am now running

Registry entries
Can anyone point me at a good doc on farting about with the registry? Or do you feel like giving me the fool's guide? I have large tracts of registry entries to stuff in, and adding them via Edit/new in regedit is an absolute PITA and unworkably slow. I have files from exported from a win98 registry (via windoze regedit) with the correct info. I need to add because programs are not finding

Off topic: Tcl/Tk outside R.
I'm trying to learn about the tcltk package and its uses. Floundering around a bit ... Have discovered Peter Dalgaard's articles in R-News, which should help. Also James Wettenhall's suite of examples look like they might be enlightening, even though the indications are that they are Windoze oriented. Be that as it were, I decided to fool around a bit with Tcl/Tk *outside* of R to

Local library on Windoze.
I'm mystified by a Windoze ``phenomenon'' which has just bitten me. I have a laptop which boots either Windoze or Linux; I (sad to say) need the Windoze OS for teaching purposes. I have R 1.9.1 installed on the laptop in the Windoze OS. Just now I decided to install, under the Windoze version of R, a library (``Misc'') of some local functions that I have collected over the

WINS problem
Greetings Earthlings: I finally convinced the LAN guy to remove NetBlooie from our windoze clients. I also made the samba box the local and master browser (we have no NT boxes at the moment). Local browsing seems to have gotten faster (at least Mr. Robinson's Network Neighborhood resolves faster). However, our LAN is isolated (windoze clients dial out to get to the internet, retrieve

*I have a Ham Radio program, named CQ100, it works fine using WINDOZE, but when I installed the same program on my linux system everything works except there is no-audio I'am using Ubuntu 7.10 linux... The author told me that windoze uses GSM 6.10 codec, plus ACM audio compression manager, these are built-in... So by anychance does anyone know of a program that one can get to use on a

ldap authentification suddenly fails partially
hi ! my systems started to behave weird today. i am running a debian/linux-fileserver (woody/2.4.18) that exports the user-homes and acts as a PDC via samba (2.2.4 --with-ldapsam) to my windoze-clients (w2k/nt). i am using ldap as authentification database. everything worked like a charme, until today. suddenly some users cannot authenticate against the windoze-machines any more. other users

Authentication incompatibility?
I recently compiled Samba 3.0.23d on SuSE Linux 9.0 on an i386 computer. The software appears to work but its not compatible with other SMB / CIFS clients. If I use the newly compiled programs on two different machines they can login and browse each others resources using the 'smbclient' program. If I try to use a windoze computer, the Linux kernel (2.6.16.16 built on the same

.Rprofile under Windoze.
I am (for my sins) having to do some work using R under Windoze. I wanted to set up a .Rprofile to control my set-up. The docs on .Rprofile say that it can/should be placed in ``the user's home directory''. ``An Introduction to R'' observes lucidly that this concept needs to be clarified under Windoze. Following the suggestions in An Introduction to R, I tried putting a

Creating domain users - how?
The problem is - how do I do it? It seems to be such an easy question but I've failed to find it in the documentation. (I'm trying to follow "How to Configure Samba 2.2 as a Primary Domain Controller" which I was pointed to by SWAT.) I'm guessing the solution's obvious, but if so, I hope somebody can help easily. I've used samba for a few years (so I'm not a

Printing on Samba with WinNT...
Hello! Because I did not receive any useful answer on this issue, I want to ask now the THIRD time. It starts to become critical, because users are handicaped by this stupid problem, so any suggestion is welcome. Servers: SuSE 9.0 with Samba 2.2.5 Encrypted Passwords = no // Full smb.conf at the end of this mail. // // I added some explanations to it here (manually).

Drive Y
Hi I don't want that Windoze programms write to my {HOME} directory (Drive Y). I find better a separate directory like {HOME}/.wine/cfg.windoze for .ini, cfg, .log, and other files. It looks better without these files in my home directory. Now it is crammed and not clear. Is there a possibility to make this? With a option in {HOME}/.wine/config perhaps? Thanks much -- MfG / With

semi-OT: help needed w/ bareos
I've got it installed on a 6.7 server, and can back up and restore for Linux. Now I'm trying to do it for some users' WinDoze boxes. Trouble is, all I keep finding on the Web are "how to set it up on Linux", "how to install on Windoze", and how to restore.... First question: how do you *see* a list of the files that have been backed up (you're not going to tell
