using and testing %a
Greetings.
Is there a quick and easy way to find out what the %a substitution string
returns for a given computer? We were having some problems that I though
might be due to it, and I'd like to know how to find out if it is the
problem. I tried putting it in the server string, but looking at it in
network neighborhood always gives me "UNKNOWN". The computers I tried

Printing an extra blank page all the time.
Hi,
I'm running samba-3.0.5 on OpenBSD 3.5.
I'm trying out using samba as a print server for the first time, and it
works ok, but I have this problem where everytime I print anything, a
additional blank page comes out of the printer at the end of what was
just printed.
It's an old HP Laserjet 4 connected to the parallel port of the samba
server.

Printing to PC's with no form feed
I have a binary release of Samba version 1.9.16p11 running on SCO Open
Server 5 and I'm using smbclient to print text files to shared PC
printers. This works great except for one thing; smbclient insists on
appending a form feed to the end of each print job. For my particular
application I cannot have form feeds appended so my questions are....
1. Is there a way of suppressing the form feed

[EXTERNAL] Re: Tripp Lite SMART1500LCD repeatedly disconnecting and reconnecting
Thought I'd follow up in case someone else runs into this issue. In the end
what worked for me was tweaking the udev rules. I have had no USB
disconnects or stale data warnings so far. I only used one rule for my UPS:
# /etc/udev/rules.d/62-nut-usbups.rules
SUBSYSTEM!="usb", GOTO="nut-usbups_rules_end"
# TrippLite
# e.g. TrippLite SMART1500LCD - usbhid-ups

We had that discussion about the SMART1500LCDT & USB a long time ago:-(
I bought mine in 2013 (still going strong on the second set of
batteries) and in August 2016 we had some discussions about the USB

Charles, thank you for that link to David's earlier message. I tried adding
those udev rules and changing the pollinterval. I need to do some tinkering
but I don't think the part RUN+="/sbin/upsdrvctl stop; /sbin/upsdrvctl
start" is working right. If I manually run the commands then the USB
disconnects stop and there are no kernel messages. Running "sudo

I haven't tried it on RaspberryPi, but if there's some specific Tripp Lite information I can help with, let me know.

If you'd like, shoot me over your serial number and the corner-cases you don't have answers for and I can look into it.
Thank you,

[sieve][regex] Matching multiple strings in the "Received" header
Hello Adi,
did you try:
" from.*(outbound.protection.outlook.com|.google.com|.yahoo.com|mx.aol.com) "
If you need to specify the posix character class:
[[:blank:]] means space and tab. With pcre it would be like [ \t]
[[:space:]] includes space, tab, newline, linefeed, formfeed, vertical tab (in pcre like [ \t\n\r\f\v])

Thanks Marco, I may try this if I can't get David's udev rules to work.

I see, so you kept the load.on.delay command but removed the check to see
if it was handled. Did you do the same thing for the shutdown.stayoff logic?
I didn't, because I don't use that functionality, though it does look as
though it should be modified in just the same way.
This might

Thanks Ken.
I'll plan to sit down and look up the protocol information over the next week or so and follow up.

My serial # is 2835BY0SM886900639, model # SMART1500LCD.
Using stock nut, my UPS will turn back on after load off, even with no
power connected. Servers boot up and fail when the UPS finally dies.
Using my patched nut, the UPS will fail to turn on if the power returns
after the shutdown command but before actual load off.
It seems like this UPS is missing the "load.on" and/or

Tripp Lite SMART1500LCD will not stay shut down when power is disconnected
Your suggestion of rebuilding the driver fixed the issue of the UPS turning
back during a power failure. Now the UPS shuts down the clients, then
powers off appropriately. If power returns it turns back on also.
The only bug is if power returns before the UPS has turned the load off. In
that case the UPS will remain off until it is manually turned on.
This might just be a limitation of this

What features does SWAT support? (maybe bug)
We're running Samba 2.0.6 on AIX 4.3.2.0
Is there a home page for SWAT or somewhere else that I can look to see
what smb.conf parameters SWAT supports?
I prefer editing the smb.conf file with vi, but some of the administrators
here like to use SWAT. A while back, I put an include line into the
smb.conf file to get around differences between our WinNT and Win95/98
machines. A couple

This might be a dumb question but did this require you to recompile the
kernel? These types of changes are way beyond my depth.
Thank you for the direction!

HP Deskjet 1000c
Howdy all -
I have Samba 2.0.3 running like a champ on a dual PPro 200, 128 MB RAM,
running Slackware 3.6, kernel 2.2.5. Running like a champ as far as file
sharing is concerned, that is.
I have an HP Deskjet 1000c hanging off the parallel port. I set up a raw
printer in /etc/printcap, the line looks like this:
