Help with windwos 2000 and Samba 2.0.3 / can't see shares
I reported this (or tried, I emailed the bug list with the results with debug set high). Both 2.0.7 pre1 and the CVS today won't show shares. I note that tcpdump apparently shows that it is trying to negotiate an old protocol - I can see the decode of the Win98 traffic, but not W2K. It fails on the routine that does the get next share name. Basically with W2K, smbclient -L won't show

smbpasswd and nmbd don't call my password program
I have samba-1.9.18p7-2 smb.conf says: # Configure smbpasswd passwd chat debug = yes # Default passwd chat = *old*password* %o\n *new*password* %n\n *new*password* %n\n *changed* passwd program = /usr/bin/yppasswd Using smbpasswd, my encrypted password is changed, but yppasswd is not even touched (as per ls -lu /usr/bin/yppasswd). Furthermore, running smbd with -d 100 didn't seem to show

setting passwords from Windows
I'd like to change Samba passwords from win95 and NT4 clients. I use security=user. I don't give shell access to every user, so they can't use smbpasswd. I've tested from a win95 client with the precompiled samba-2.0.4b.i386.rpm: net pass \\greg greg test1 test2 I'd used smbpasswd to change greg's password to test1 on host greg prior to this. Here's the smbpasswd

all samba commands running in debug mode?
Whenever I run a samba command such as testparm or smbclient, it outputs in debug mode. I am running this on a SunFire 12K. I have this same samba package installed on a Enterprise 4000 and it works fine. Any suggestions? davinci:root> smbclient -L davinci | more Password: doing parameter log file = /tmp/log.%m doing parameter lock directory = /usr/local/samba/var/locks doing parameter

Printer queue problem (LPRng 3.4.2, Samba 1.9.18p4, Solaris 2.5.1/2.6)
I've been having a problem with Win95 clients watching a printer queue on the Samba server (called labserv2). labserv2 is a Solaris 2.5.1 machine running samba 1.9.18p4. The printing system is LPRng 3.4.2. A user can watch the printer queue from a Win95 client machine. However, when the printer queue gets backed up (usually about 12 jobs), the queue window locks. The corresponding smbd

Samba and Cisco's WebVPN
Hi All, I'm posting this just in case someone can tell what's going on with samba that would prevent this from working. Cisco has the ability to see a smb share from their webvpn product with CIFS. We can browse windows shares but not samba shares. The following log outputs are from my ASA firewall. I know these are cisco logs but I'm hoping a lightbulb will come on for someone. The

Adding support for .w64 (wave64) format
I use Sony (previously Sonic Foundry) Sound Forge, which allows me to save audio files in .w64 (Wave 64) format to get around the 2GB .wav file limitation. W64 was invented by Sonic Foundry, and is an open format as far as I know. The only programs I know about using the .w64 format at the moment are Sound Forge and Steinberg Nuendo, although there may be others out there. With increasing

Problem installing a particular printer WinXP/Samba2.2.8a
Hello, I'm having a problem installing a printer on a Window XP box (the problem also occurs in Win2000 SP2) with Samba 2.2.8a. The symptoms are: Add a printer -> network -> type in \\pcprint\picasso You get a message that there is no driver for this printer on the server and to either click OK to continue or Cancel. Go to printer driver selection (I've disabled spoolss as I

abbreviate or wrap dimname labels
For a variety of displays (mosaicplots, barplots, ...) one often wants to either abbreviate or wrap long labels, particularly when these are made up of several words. In general, it would be nice to have a function, abbreviate.or.wrap <- function(x, maxlength=10, maxlines=2, split=" ") { } that would take a character vector or a list of vectors, x, and try to abbreviate or wrap

SATA Raid 5 and losing a drive
Hi Folks - Using CentOS on a server destined to have a dozen SATA drives in it. The server is fine, raid 5 is set up on groups of 4 SATA drives. Today we decide to disconnect one SATA drive to simulate a failure. The box trucked on fine... a little too fine. We waited some minutes but no problem was visible in /proc/mdstat or in /var/log/messages or on the console. I ran mdadm --monitor

Adding support for .w64 (wave64) format
Our DAW REAPER (www.reaper.fm) supports W64 as well. We'd be happy to share our W64 reading/writing implementations if someone wishes to integrate them into flac... -Justin Chris Cantwell wrote: > > I use Sony (previously Sonic Foundry) Sound Forge, which allows me to > save audio files in .w64 (Wave 64) format to get around the 2GB .wav > file limitation. Adding support for .w64 (wave64) format
I realize that it isn't much of an improvement, but AIFF supports 4GB recordings, and flac is compatible with this. Being an avid "taper" myself, I have, on many occasions recorded up to this limit, and I always back up my original recordings using flac. W64 support is more than welcome, but AIFF support gets you twice the length right away. Brian Willoughby Sound
