computer not showing up in Network Neighborhood
Hi, Has anyone had this problem with Samba? I have been having trouble getting my Samba server to show up in my Network Neighborhood list. It is in the right workgroup, and when I do a search for computer, it is found. Yet, it never shows up in my NN list. Can someone give me some advice on how to make this work? Thanks, Ken

Cleaning up Network Neighborhood
I couldn't find anything like this in the archives, although it must be there. We are running Samba 2.0.7 on RedHat Linux 6.0 using Windows 95 clients. Our Network Neighborhood is filled with workgroups that no longer exist. In some cases, someone connected with a laptop that was in a certain workgroup and it was added to the list of our workgroups. Even that that person has been gone for

Samba server not in Network Neighborhood
OK this is weird to me. I have 3 linux machines running samba (Redhat 6.0, Slackware 4.0, and SuSE 6.1) and two windoze 98 machines, one with SE. Each windoze machine sees 4 computers in Network Neighborhood - one of the 4 is itself. they do not see the same machines! the 98 machine @ 192.138.1.2 sees 192.168.1.1-4 and the 98 machine @ 192.168.1.3 sees 192.168.1.2-5. I seem to remember

What to do in Windows 95 after configuring Samba
Hello, I'm new to Samba so sorry for this trivial question. I've configured my smb.conf with all the shares and enabled WINS support. I wanted to know what do I have to configure in my windows 95 machine. My LAN setup is - one Linux Red Hat 6.0 machine Pentium 166 and a windows 95 machine a 486. I've made my Linux m/c the proxy server using Squid. Also whenever I boot my Win m/c it

Bogus workgroups in network neighborhood?
Hi there, In our Network Neighborhood I can see items for old workgroups and domains that no longer exist. For example, in /var/log/messages I see: Apr 13 04:02:04 ch1 nmbd[9227]: ^ICH(1) current master browser = CH1 Apr 13 04:02:04 ch1 nmbd[9227]: ^IBCH(7) current master browser = FIRE997 Apr 13 04:02:05 ch1 nmbd[9227]: ^IWORKGROUP(5) current master browser = SAFETYLAPTOP Apr 13 04:02:05

Troubleshooting Samba - (2)
I am running SuSE V8.0, and Samba 2.2.7a on a small network server. I have been having problems relating to sorting out printing from an NT4 workstation to a laser printer on the Samba server. I had to reboot my Windoze PC and am logged in as myself (I have Administrator rights). I can see the shares by looking for the computer from Windows explorer using the ip 192.168.0.5 and can proceed

Is it possible to map shares via Network Neighborhood?
We're running Samba 2.2.2 over an NT network. Our clients use Win95 (for the time being) and I wondered how we config Samba so they can map the shares using network neighborhood. We can map fine through MS-DOS, but when I try, for example, to map E drive to \\nfssrv\ads share via network neighborhood (where we ARE able to see the shares), it says E: is already connected to . Do you want

NetBios name <1b> type record (Neighborhood browsing) !
Questions are about <1b> NetBios type record name for workgroup (for workgroup, not for node) . There is local subnet with Samba4 as DC (either Win NT or Win NT+) for mdom.net domain, and as following, there is mdom workgroup in neighborhood. But there are some other domain and/or non-domain workgroups in the subnet which Samba4 does not belong to. Is <1b> had to be registered by

Servers disappear from Network neighborhood
I am using Samba-PDC-LDAP with samba-3.0.20b-1. On my file servers I am using samba-3.0.10-1.4. I'm not sure exactly what is happening but every couple of weeks the file servers disappear form network neighborhood. I checked browstat on my Windows system and it points to my PDC as the master browser and I checked the wins.dat file on my PDC and the systems were there. I did not check

WINS problem
Greetings Earthlings: I finally convinced the LAN guy to remove NetBlooie from our windoze clients. I also made the samba box the local and master browser (we have no NT boxes at the moment). Local browsing seems to have gotten faster (at least Mr. Robinson's Network Neighborhood resolves faster). However, our LAN is isolated (windoze clients dial out to get to the internet, retrieve

Network Neighborhood
Hello, sorry for this posting, I know you must have answered this hundreds of times, but I cannot get my samba servers to appear on the network neighborhood on the W95 client machines. Can anyone tell what?s missing from my smb.conf files? The problem should be the same on all of the samba servers, how do I have to configure samba to show up in the network neighborhood? Thanx in advance. --

Static WINS entries
Is it possible to manually add entries to the WINS database on a Samba nmbd running as a WINS server? Alternativily could I get the WINS nmbd to use DNS for hostsnames it can't resolve using it's own database. I have several NT servers that seem to just vanish from the db after a while. One of my 2.2.3a boxes also did this for a pastime. Whilst I can do nbtstat -RR on NT or restart

Network neighborhood problems
I have setup a small office of 6 win95/98 workstations and a Samba share (SuSE, Samba 2.0.6) on a P90 with 32MB of RAM and 2, 2GB HD?s. File sharing and PDC functions work perfectly (better than any NT machine). However, I cannot get the samba computer to show up in network neighborhood. I set the netbios name to SAMBA and wins = yes. When I go to start => run and type <\\samba>, the

SAMBA/Network Neighborhood problem
Hello SAMBA gurus, I have SAMBA installed on a Linux box behind a Linux firewall. Also running behind the same firewall on the same class C sub-net is a NT 4.0 box. After starting up SMBD/NMBD I could see the remote SAMBA system and the file and printer shares displayed as icons in the NT 4.0 Network Neighborhood Explorer file system. Right clicking and displaying the menu over the highlighted
