W95 and encrypted passwords? / DOS W3.x ?
We have several WIN95/WIN98 machines, but some which have to run under DOS/win3.11. Is there a possibility to enable the password encryption on these DOS / WIN3.11 clients? Are there updates or anything like that? Thanks, Hans-Joachim Muenzer

problem with printer
Hi, I've a strange problem with samba 1.9.15pl4 and an Epson LQ2070 printer (not that I think that samba release or printer type are relevant ..). I'm using samba with linux to offer print share to a win3.11 LAN. A little drawing: Win PC <----> File Server <----> Axis print server <----> printer (spool dir) The printer is connected to an Axis printserver

Howto hook up a Wfw 3.11 client to browse Samba shares on Solaris boxes...
Hi, Sorry if this is the documentation somewhere; however, I need a little tutorial help on howto configure a Wfw client for Samba: I have two samba servers, 1.9.18p2, on a couple of our Sun machines running Solaris 2.3. I know how to gain access from various Win95 machines in our group; however, I was requested to set up access for a Win3.11 machine today, and I'm kinda stumped. This

samba 2.2.5 and WinXP
I'm setting up a redhat7.3 box for a school, whose sole purpose in life is to provide a large disk space for educational software packages. These packages total about 10GB, which means the old Netware server isn't an option. The school received a grant and bought their teachers new computers with XP Pro on 'em (replacing Win3.11). Since they use Client32 on a NW4.11 box, I'm

Questions about %a macro - Documentation bug.
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I know that %a is for architecture. Either Samba, Windows XP, Windows 2K, Windows For Workgroups or Windows 95. I also know that %a will return "WinXP" when the client architecture is Windows XP. I know this because all of my current boxes are XP Pro boxes and testing it is pretty easy if you have a box of that type available. Problem is

samba domain issue
:') I have a small block of addresses allocated by the ISP. In order to conserve those addresses, I have constructed a Linux box (2.0.33 SuSE 5.1) to do IP_masq. (Works wonderfully. SuSE is the best kept secret in the Linux community.) Problem is related to Samba. I MUST be able to relocate NT clients behind my Linux system. I have tried several different methods of configuration for

Browsing remote domains possible ?
Hello to all, BROWSING and WINS-problem: I currently have set up about 10 or 12 separated networks using Linux 2.0.35/Samba 1.19.xx. Using Isdn4Linux I have set up static routes to our central office server (same config). My networks use an IP range of 192.168.xx.0/24 where xx is different for every network. The IP configuration works fine now (I can telnet without any problems, dialling,

deleting print jobs
hi, i've a little problem with deleting print jobs. let me briefly explain. i've several win95/win3.11 machines that print to linux machines running samba (1.9.18 or 1.9.17, it depends). print services are all public, so no password is needed to print. but when someone tries to delete his/her print job, after a pause, the windows machine says that he/she has to contact the administrator or

Getting smbpasswd file to work alongside unencrypted ones
We operate a samba('18p10) server accessed by WIN3.11, 9x & NT4 clients, security=share. Uptil now, the NT clients have been pre service pack 3 & therefore sent cleartext passwords. Post-SP3 we need to enable encrypted passwords for the NT clients whilst preserving cleartext for the rest. For various (political) reasons, we cant' get the clients to use the registry hack to

Cannot run Win16 installer for Judaic Classics
Hi, I am trying to install Davka Judaic Classics IIc, a bookshelf kind of software with Hebrew books. It is a win32 program that was designed for running also on win3.11, hence the installer is, I believe, win16. I have used this software on Win95 and Win98. The program happily runs off emulated cdroms. I have now tried to install this program under wine, but can't even get the installer to
