NIS+ and smbpasswd
Hi,
I saw a similar question to this one in the samba list archives, but
there was no answer so I'm going to ask it again.
I'm running Samba 2.0.5a on Solaris 2.6 using NIS+, I've compiled it
with --with-nisplus --with-nisplus-home. Samba is currently running
using Plain Text passwords accessing the NIS+ database and I have
"update encrypted = Yes" set so that the current

Problems syncing smbpasswd/passwd
Dear all!
Since several days I'm trying to get Samba's unix password sync to work
for me, but I still have problems. I'm using the Samba 3.0.22 binaries
that come with Ubuntu 6.06 and this is the [global] section of my smb.conf:
[global]
workgroup = TEST
domain logons = yes
preferred master = yes
wins support = yes
username map = /etc/samba/smbusers
syslog = 100

CVS woes under HPUX 10.20
<sigh>
Ever since the -lsec/-lsecurity tests in configure were "fixed", post
beta2, I cannot compile any version of Samba 2.x on HPUX 10.20. The only
options set with configure are --prefix= and --with-mmap. The differences
seem to be reversed settings for availability of getspnam, bigcrypt,
getprpwnam, and set_auth_parameters (in config.cache) and for the related

sync /etc/passwd with samba's smbpasswd file
Hi all,
I want to sync the password to smbpasswd when I change the
Linux system a/c password in /etc/passwd.
I have compiled samba with --with-pam_smbpasswd and install
the file pam_smbpass.so to /lib/security.
I have looked into the samba's source directory:
source/pam_smbpass/samples, their is a directory named
"password-sync". How can I use this file to sync password from

Sync passwd and smbpasswd
I am having problems setting up the smbpasswd command to sync the /etc/passwd
and $SAMBAHOME/private/smbasswd files. My passwd program (/usr/bin/passwd %u)
doesn't seem to want to wait around for smbpasswd to send it a second password for confirmation.
I am running Solaris 2.5.1 (103640-23) on an Ultra 2300 and using Samba 1.9.18p10 compiled with gcc 2.8.1.
I thought that I had this running

sync between passwd and smbpasswd
Dear Sirs,
is there a tool which performs check between /etc/passwd and
PREFIX/private/smbpasswd ? (I mean different UID when username is the
same, missing entries, duplicate entries, etc....)

2nd try: sync of passwd and smbpasswd
Hello,
I'm using samba2.02 and shadowed passwords.
I' m on the way to migrate from plaintext to encrypted passwords.
Therefore I've set the parameter update encrypted to "Yes".
After everyone has logged in I will set this parameter to "No" again and
set encrypted passwd = Yes.
So far, so good. But three questions are remaining for me:
a) what to do with those who

How to sync /etc/smbpasswd with /etc/passwd ?
While we do sync our /etc/passwd whenever /etc/smbpasswd is changed via the
Samba sync option that does not seem to be possible the other way round:
I just want a /etc/smbpasswd generated from my /etc/passwd with the correct
passwords as used for the UniX login...
Is that possible ?
Regards,

Freebsd + NT/Nt-Client am Linux-Server
Pam_SMB allows Linux clients to validate
their passwords against an NT PDC, so the
only thing you have to do is set up the
accounts on the Linux side with an '*'
in the /etc/passwd entry. This can be
done using a list of users:
#!/bin/bash
for i in `cat myuserlist`; do
/usr/sbin/adduser -p '*' $i
with various other command line options,
such as "-s

Smbpasswd + password sync on OS X
Samba 2.2.3a on OS-X 10.2.6
Trying to get a standalone server up and running with user level
security. All the users have valid accounts and passwords, but we've
enabled password sync and password chat and chat debug for the accounts
as we don't do authentication against the active directory.

passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u

Couple more problems (ov_open_callbacks)
I'm in the final throes of debugging (hopefully) and the last thing I'm
trying to do is figure out why I'm getting static instead of usable
data. I have a verified Ogg file (it plays fine in WMA); I've visibly
inspected the info struct and it matches my output format; I've verified
my audio playback code by using a generated sine wave (sounds correct).
So that leads to a

Finishing up the contributors list as well
Guys,
OK, now that we have the new core contributors squared away, we
can go back to finishing the contributors list.
There were some people who got added and then there is existing
contributors list. I think Darren''s suggestion to wait to add new
core contributors is fine (let the new constitution settle down
and we can in the meanwhile have a more inclusive look at both

Ogg Vorbis, Ogg Speex, Ogg FLAC
Now that FLAC has officionally joined the Xiph family,
there are three different free audio codecs, which can be
stored/transported using the ogg container.
Would it be possible to create an API and/or a library that
would cover them all?
If my understanding of the situation is correct, if an application wants
to support vorbis, speex and flac, it has to use three different
interfaces.

Samba and NIS+ (lengthy desperate plea)
Hi everyone,
Let me briefly describe my setup. I work at a small university and we are
setting up 3 labs. 2 are filled with Ultra Sparc 5's, and the 3rd will be
filled with PCs running NT4 workstation. We have an Enterprise Server
3500 running NIS+ to authenticate the Unix labs (or rather we will, once
I get it working), and I'd like to set up Samba to authenticate the NT
labs using
