1.9.18p10: Incompete directory listing from WfW 3.11
Hi, we're having quite a strange problem with our Linux samba (1.9.18p10) server: when doing a directory list from a Windows for Workgroups 3.11 Client all files an directories appear except <.> and <..>. While this is not a serious problem when using ?dir?, some applications (e.g. Ami Pro 3.1) seem to rely on these entries. In the file dialogues this particular application does

long filenames (8.3) issue
Hi there, We map a Sun Microsystems (Solaris 9) drive to a Windows 2003 server. This works fine except for the long UNIX (tm) filenames that are mapped as truncated 8.3 filenames on the MS server. Needless to say for backup purposes this defeats the object. I have scanned the archives but must be looking in the wrong places because I am unable to find a solution to this problem. Can anyone

Non running DOS programs from path with long names
Greetings List I have a redhat 7.3/Samba 2.2.3a file server (NOT PDC) on a linux/windows network. Everything seemed to work well in Win32 land until we noticed this interesting feature. We have stored a DOS program ("DOSPROG.EXE") in a local public Samba share, 777 directory and file permissions. So all open and highly unsecure. We want to run the program from a Win98 client. To do

DOS Long Directory names?
Hi list, Having some trouble getting Samba to properly display directory names for a DOS machine. Basically, I have a few old DOS 6.2 boxes mapped to a Samba box to drop some files into. The folder name on the Samba box is 'filerouter' (no quotes). Under the normal DOS filename structure, I would assume the name would be adjusted to filerou~1, or something similar, to fit with the 8.3

Re: Long Directory Names and DOS
Hey list, I thought I'd try this one more time. I can't believe there isn't any way to get directory names to be listed properly under DOS 6.2. My original message was: I'm having some trouble getting Samba to properly display directory names for a DOS machine. Basically, I have a few old DOS 6.2 boxes mapped to a Samba box to drop some files into. The folder name on the Samba

Long filenames and 8.3 conversion
Hello List, Can anyone please help explain how Samba handles long filename conversion to DOS 8.3 tilde format? I have a client with a Windows app that works great when using 8.3 type filenames. When an attempt to use long filenames is made, the files are created great and the data is there. But when the app builds the index and attempt to retrieve the data file is made, the wrong file is

4.2.14 (or newer) support "Windows for Workgroups 3.1a"?
There may be various "signing" parameters that you may need to set to "no"  on the samba PDC. I would also disable SMB3.   Windows 10 does support SMB3 but (in my experience) Samba does not properly implement it, so you will get problems.  Windows 7 does not support SMB3 so will fall back to SMB2 anyway. I suspect at this point making Windows 7 and Windows 3.11 interact

Memdisk & seagate diagnostic tool
Hi all! I'm using syslinux & memdisk (3.11 version) to boot a floppy disk image of the seagate disk diagnostic tools via an usb key. When booting directly from the floppy disk, every thing is all right and my seagate disk is detected. But when booting the disk image via memdisk & syslinux on my USB key, every thing seems all right *except* that no disk is detected by the tools

Weir long distance behaviour...
Hi all, I have taken my family in hostage and setup an asterisk environment at home... I am using a x100p fxo card, a Iaxy and X-ten softphones. Works ok with local calls. There is a strange behavior, when we do long distance calls, it keeps ringing on our end, remote callee answers the call but hear nothing. It is great for one thing, they called us back and we save the long distance fees

cycling through a long list of files and names
R2.13.2, W7x64 Dear list, Excuse my ignorance, but I have gone through the R help (?parse, ?eval, etc.) and still really don't know how to do the following. I have the general following structure that I would like to automate [edited to make it shorter]: >>> city1997 <- dataCleaning(read.csv2("C:\\city\\year1997.txt")) city1997 <- wasteCalculations(city1997, year
