Performance Problems (VisualStudio)
All, Please help me defend Samba. We are having major performance problems when using VisualStudio to build projects. The source lives on the server, and the intermediate files are dumped locally to try to speed things up. One of the engineers downloaded a demo of NetManage/Chameleon NFS and it was significantly faster. Here are some numbers: samba-1.9.18p8 samba-1.9.18p8

Cannot make Windows join Samba domain
Hi, I'm having an issue trying to make a Windows machine sambaserveroin a Samba domain. Samba is running with LDAP backend (OpenLDAP). When I try to join the domain, Windows says that the machine account does not exist. The machine account, however, is successfully created in the LDAP directory after the join fails. When I try to join again, Windows says that the account already exists.

Canon multifunction printers / samba 3.0.2a / AIX 5.2ML2
Hello, I have problems setting up a canon multifunction ir7200. When I print the windows test page, I have something like "smiley" "arrow" "arow" "smiley" "arrow" name_of_the_samba_spool "smileys" driver.dll etc, etc, etc, on a single line. Did somebody used such a multifunction with Samba ? Below is a (long) description of what I did. I

Samba 4.1.3 and MS-CLIENT 3
Hi all, I have the following problem: I installed Samba 4.1.3 on my Linux computer. I tested everything via smbclient and it works. If I connect my MS-DOS Client 3 to this server strange things happens. Using net use h: \\<sambaserver>\<username> I get the correct (?) answer H: connected to \\<sambaserver>\<username> But using "H: dir" I get

[homes] not usable in 18p4?
We just upgraded from samba-1.9.17p2 to 1.9.18p4 and seemed to have lost the ability to connect to the "[homes]" service. When users try to use that service, the NT logon dialog always returns with "invalid password or username" error. Using an explicit user name works. In other words, connecting to: \\sambaServer\homes does not work, but \\sambaServer\vince

NT MD4 password check failed
I'm sorry for asking a question which has been asked so many times before, but I can't seem to find the answer... How do I get to access my home directory on a Linux server running Samba from a Windows XP client? I'm getting "NT MD4 password check failed" in the log file even though the Windows client is listed in hosts.equiv. More information below... I have a small home

This worked great last time I figured what do I have to loose... I can mount to myself mount -t //sambaserver/dir /test/samba this works fine...I even have username and passwords going through a win nt box. When I'm on a winnt4.x box I see sambaserver in the browse list but when I enter a "net view \\sambaserver" I get : No service is operating at the destination network

Cross Subnet WINS?
But the win wks on the other subnet is configured to use my SAMBASERVER as its WINS SERVER, and it is configured using the IP Adress of the SAMBASERVER and not the name. Shouldn't this do the trick? win wks is on a wireless subnet and hence runs at 11 MBPS, while the SAMBASERVER is on a wired subnet. I read somewhere that windows does some kind of "optimization" with slow networks.

Using Access Control Lists with SMB2/SMB3 Mounts on Linux Clients
Hi Jeremy, Hi Steve, Hi Ronnie, thanks for your replies and the profound discussion. I think, it's best to demonstrate my problem case along an real world example: The following log of a console sesssion shows how I am doing the mounts on behalf Linux Kernel CIFS-FS Module on the client side against a Samba 4.5 file server (both running on Debian Stretch 9.8) via SMB/CIFS resp. SMB2 protocol:

Samba and .NET FileSystemWatcher
Hi All, I've been looking into a problem using the .NET FileSystemWatcher class in a VB application. The application is only receiving notifications for events in the root of the directory it is watching. E.g. When monitoring \\SambaServer\Files <file:///\\SambaServer\Files> \\SambaServer\Files\file.txt <file:///\\SambaServer\Files\file.txt> will give notifications but not

mount cifs with sec=krb5
Hi, I am trying to mount fileserver (samba, 10.20.30.16) shares on a linux domain member server, where I logged on via ssh using AD my credentials. I am unable to get past the "mount error(126): Required key not available" error message. I have read and googled a lot, and could use some help. mounting as cifs not working in Debian, works in Windows though
I have a Debian machine running Unstable acting as a samba server. The server was installed a few days ago after a reinstall of the OS. The older installation's samba configs were backed up and restored after installation. The Samba shares are accessible if I access them from a Windows 7 client. The shares, however, cannot be accessed from a Debian client (newly installed amd64 Testing).

Need help with seeing samba server in Win98
Our office is trying to set up a samba server. But, we are having some difficulty with the installation. We have tried numerous things to no avail.
