Why does "rsync -av" always claim (incorrectly?) that it is updating write protected directories?
Hi,
I usually run "rsync -av" so I can see all the files that have
been modified.
However, "rsync -av" always claims to be updating write
protected directories, even when they have not been changed. I do not
understand why.
Here is an example using rsync version 2.6.3 on FreeBSD 5.3.
I get similar results with rsync 2.6.0 on Gentoo Linux.

bug with --link-dest ?
Hi!
I am running rsync 2.6.4 (on Debian sarge) and I am experiencing a
strange behaviour.
I am trying to create an identical filetree on the same filesystems with
the single files being hardlinks to the source like this:
rsync -vaH --progress --delete --stats --numeric-ids -x --link-dest=/path/to/filetree/ /path/to/filetree/ /path/to/current/
/path/to is one filesystem. This creates hardlinks

File locking issue
I have a client with an older server that is running into a weird file
locking problem.
The server is running FC2, samba 3.0.7 and kernel 2.6.10.
They have recently installed AutoDesk Revit, which is apparently some
sort of collaborative design software. Revit keeps a central repository
and then allows different clients to access it.
What is happening is that only the person who created the

I don't think it is vfs plugin because you haven't updated samba packages

Trying to revive this old thread as problems continue. I have noticed

Hi everyone,
Is there anything else we could do to check on this problem and try to
fix it? The issue is definitively related to either the samba vfs
gluster plugin or gluster itself. I am not sure how to pin it down

I went ahead and created a new share in the samba server which is on a
local filesystem where the OS is installed, not part of gluster:
# mount | grep home
]# ls -ld /home

Thanks for taking the time to look into this. Since we needed downtime
due to the gluster update, we also updated the OS, including samba. We
went from 4.2.x to 4.4.4 and many other packages for CentOS were
updated as well. OS and samba updates were installed, then server
rebooted, then gluster was updated.
Created a new test samba share to minimize logs, etc:

URGENT: Update issues from 3.6.6 to 3.10.2 Accessing files via samba come up with permission denied
Hi,
Over the weekend we updated a two server glusterfs 3.6.6 install to
3.10.2 We also updated samba and samba-vfs to the latest in CentOS. I
enabled several of the newer caching features from gluster 3.9 for
small file performance and samba, and we now seem to have some issues
with accessing files from glusterfs. When users try to access some
files, they get a Permission denied message. This

Windows UNC''s
Hi Graham,
In that case I''ll have to redefine File.delete and Dir.rmdir in the win32-file
package and win32-dir packages, respectively.
Please add a feature request on the project page so I don''t forget. I should
have it done this weekend.

Problem syncing to Netapp (rsync: failed to set times on...)
Hey folks.
I have a machine that I use as an intermediary to rsync between a NAS in
another building (the users there have poor bandwidth and need local
storage) and the our Netapp located in our Datacenter. I get lots of the
"rsync: failed to set times on..." errors, and files which have already
been transferred just try to sync again anyway.
These are the mount options that I use

Rsync over windows remote desktop

Not sure if any of you can help me with a rsync challenge I am having, but
here goes. I am trying to get two Windows XP professional computers to
synchronize using a windows remote desktop connection. When remotely
connected to one of the computers from the other in Windows explorer the
folders and drives of both computers are visible. However when I try to run

Odd behavior with --detect-renamed
Hello,
I'm totally new to this list, so I hope I don't break all the rules. :)
I've looked through the archives (and google), and I really can't find the
answer to my question.
I'm trying out the 'detect-renamed'-patch, and I've encountered some odd
behavior. I've applied the patch to both rsync-2.6.9 and rsync-3.0.0pre7,
and it's the same behavior.

rsync-ing from two locations with same filenames (at different versions)
Hello,
I would like to have a full repository, say, holding files
full/a.txt (version 1)
full/b.txt (version 1)
full/c.txt (version 1)
and a repository of updates, for example
new/b.txt (version 2 - newer)
Then, I would like to call
rsync [flags] new/ full/ destination
to get
destination/a.txt (v.1)
destination/b.txt (v.2)
destination/c.txt (v.1)
This simple case works

Bug Report rsync 2.5.5 --delete and soft links to parent directories causes MAXSYMLINKS error
I have found an unwanted feature of rsync 2.5.5. It has to do with
soft links and the --delete option in archive mode. The following shows
how to reproduce the error.
Provide a soft link that refers to a parent directory.

Script to show asterisk stuff
Hello folks.
I'm looking into having a web page displaying asterisk callers.
We are a call centre, and having operators answering calls at home or
whatever, they would need to have a real time application to display how
manny callers are queuing, for how long etc.
At first, I thought of phpagi. It connects to the manager and does a "core

File sync/delete question
Hi,
I need to solve a specific problem and I think that I need an extension to
rsync for this to work :)
I have an FTP server in the DMZ and a samba server in my intranet. The ftp
server has an "incoming" directory, where people can put uploads and it is
also running rsync in daemon mode.
The samba server syncs the incoming directory of the ftp server every
minute to make access to
