Backup to NTFS USB drive --compare-dest not working
When I'm running "rsync --compare-dest" on a local Linux volume (ext4) it works as expected (duplicate files not created) however when same commands with same options are run on NTFS USB drive (in my scenario below mounted to /share/external/sdt5) all the files are copied regardless if they have been updated or not. I have spent many hours trying to figure out what could be wrong and

Specify Includes Only
Hi, sorry if this has been asked before, but I just can't find anywhere on the net that tells me how to do this. I've been trying for ages to get this right, using various forms of --include-from, --exclude, --filter, etc. I want to copy only specific directories that contain specific filetypes, from sourcedir to destdir. For example, I want to copy all .mp3 and all .ogg files found in

--link-dest=server::location/folder
I'm wondering if I can use link-dest to compare rsync to a remote directory. rsync -aCHh --stats --link-dest=akane::backup/ranma.daily.1 / myserver::akane/ranma.daily.0 Something like that? Is it going to work like it does when doing a local rsync with a local link-dest directory? Is it going to chew massive amounts of bandwidth? Is there something else I should be doing

Delete directories without browsing them
Hello, I make my production backups with Rsync. Here is an example of my backup tree on the destination server : /backups /2013-04-03 /2013-04-02 /2013-04-01 /2013-03-31 /2013-03-30 /2013-03-29 At the end of the backup process, I upload a logfile in the backup directory and delete oldest backups. For this, I use an include/exclude file, for example this inclexcl.txt

problem restoring via rsync when using stored ACLs (--fake-super)
Hello, In summary, i appear to have encountered a bug when attempting to restore files using rsync 3.0.0pre4 (matt) with stored ACLs (via --fake-super). The ACL information appears to be correctly stored as xattrs on the backup server; however, when i attempt to restore while preserving the ACL data, i get the following error: ERROR: out of memory in get_xattr_data [sender] Questions: 1. file contents cause rsync to fail (with certains args and dir structure)
Quite strange at first sight that the failure should depend on the files containing NULs! But I've reproduced it on both Ubuntu and OpenSUSE with d73762e "Preparing for release of 3.1.3". The problem remains even if you drop the --checksum or --delay-updates options from the command line, but goes away if you don't use both "--sparse" and "--preallocate"

file contents cause rsync to fail (with certains args and dir structure)
Problem was introduced with this commit: commit f3873b3d88b61167b106e7b9227a20147f8f6197 Author: Wayne Davison <wayned at samba.org> Date: Mon Oct 10 11:49:50 2016 -0700 Support --sparse combined with --preallocate or --inplace. The new code tries to punch holes in the destination file using newer Linux fallocate features. It also supports a --whole-file

Script: Moving Maildirs between servers
Hi, I just migrated from dovecot 1.0.rc29 to 1.1.7, from Sparc platform to Intel, it went very well. In the process I merged folders and excluded folders from being copied. User rights on folders were kept/set. I thought I'd share my migration script with you folks. If there's an interest to put it on the wiki I can do that, but I'm not sure in what page. Use it as a starter if you

Two problems: -u together with -c and and a symlink problem
Hi, I have two problems with rsync 1st) if I give both commandline options -u and -c it looks as if a file which is more recent but different on the destination is not updated, i.e. -u overrules -c Is that true? 2nd) There is a symlink A on <SourceDir> which refers to a directory On the other hand, A is the name of a subdirectory of <DestDir> Now doing

Network services start before network is up since migrating to 7.2
Hello all, I updated two of my servers to CentOS 7.2 (1511) two days ago, and since, on one of them, the network services are started (and fail to start) before the network interfaces are online. Parts of "journalctl" after the last reboot : d?c. 17 10:21:44 myserver kernel: NET: Registered protocol family 40 d?c. 17 10:21:45 myserver sshd[700]: error: Bind to port 22 on

[LLVMdev] .ll test cases for tail call optimization in test-suite
In order to test the tail call optimization i created quite a few .ll files and added them to the SingleSource directory in the test-suite. For example llvm-test/SingleSource/Tailcall/tailcall1-2.ll. Since i don't want opt to inline the tailcalls away :) i changed the rules in the Makefile situated in the TailCall directory. I want to compare the output of a file compile with normal llc with
