add specify network interface option?
I'm finding curl's [http://curl.sourceforge.net/] --interface option useful. It lets you specify which network interface to use. It's handy if you have a slow interface and a fast one, and you want to force traffic over the fast one. I'm running an older version of AIX that doesn't make it convenient to change the default interface, and doesn't load-balance over

prevent simultaneous copies?
Would it be worthwhile to have an option to check for the presence of the temporary dot file in the target directory and to warn the user that the file is already being transfered? Something like: --skip-in-progress-files ? We usually transfer files via a cron job, but sometimes impatient people try to push stuff out, not knowing the file is already being copied, and disk space and

Improving the rsync protocol (RE: Rsync dies)

If the index file exists (or meets other defined

http as a transport for rsync?
Given the increasing reliance on proxies and filtering devices, it is harder and harder to rsync across the net. Do you think we will ever be able to use http as a transport for rsync? For example, when will I be able to do this: rsync -arv http://rsync.domain.tld/webroot It would seem that this is the logical next step for rsync and is the one feature I most desparately need. What

Discussion on hosting of local user group web portals under r-project
Hi all, Driven by the success of R, a number of local R users groups have been formed in several places (London, NY, etc.). We are also currently considering setting up our own local group in Spain. We have found that setting up a web page in order to centralise the information relevant to the group members, keep a calendar of events, and other functionalities is very important as a tool to keep

rsync mechanics question
Hey All, I've been using rsync (2.6.9) to migrate a 90g message store volume and I'm running into some interesting results. I have two FC storage arrays attached to a Sunfire V280R, running Solaris 8. My 100gig volume is on a Sun StoreEdge 3510, and my new 500gig partition is on an HP EVA. I used the syntax: rsync -a --stats --delete $SRC/$dir/ $DST/$dir At present time, the

Max number of files to transfer
Hey, Is it possible to make rsync only transfer a maximum amount of files at one time. I want to do this to make the initial set up time of the filelist before transfer to be reasonably predictable. Rsync is basically going to transfer from one mailbox to another mailbox but I want to be able to only transfer say 50 files at a time. I know this can be solved by controlling the number of

vorbis tag for general music type?
Hi, I am wondering if vorbis has a standard tag for general music type. I don't mean pop, jazz, etc., but something more in line with describing the mood of the mucic. I am thinking of games which have a soundtrack in vorbis format which could use the user's own repository of .ogg files during gameplay, and use the tag to choose appropriate music for that part of the game. For

Wayne and twin
Hi, I haven't seen recent information on wine and twain. I already sent a similar mail to wine-users and, in a second step to wine-devel, but without any information back until now. May be the trick "Wine and twain" to "Wayne and twin" will give me more chance to be listen. Or may be my question is really stupid? >From a recent mail that I got, the problem is of

Need ideas for project
Hey everyone, I am a final semester MCA student. I've chosen rsync as the subject of my project for my graduation. Hence I would appreciate it if someone could guide me with some ideas on how I can contribute to rsync. I will work hard to implement whatever suggestions that you can all give me. I would definitely like to know what are some of the issues concerning rsync. May be I can then

Open source projects survive on freedom of communication. Such projects are diminished when a community member can no longer participate, as the project no longer benefits from their opinions and insight. However, one of the few things worse than this loss of participation is to have a hostile environment where people are afraid to voice opinions. If we cannot discuss ideas ? even radical ones ?
