Binding with libiconv failed while compiling R-devel on Ubuntu 17.04
Dear everyone,
I posted a similar question to Stack Overflow there: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/46907554/binding-with-libiconv-failed-while-compiling-r-devel-on-ubuntu-17-04 and I was suggested to post my question here.
I tried to compile R devel using Dirk Eddelbuettel's recipe (and many variants of it). Regardless of what I do, I have:

Failed to create rounding.h!
On an i686 with glibc 2.5 installed I'm not able to compile rsync 3.0.2
and later. rsync 3.0.0 was no problem, this compiled. Also on an x86_64
with glibc 2.7 installed rsync compiled.
Here is a script of the failing comilation:

[LLVMdev] VMKit GNU classpath configure
Thanks for the response. Since X11 is by default installed on OS X when the developer tools
are installed. Running autoconf fixed the issue with configure not finding X11, although I did
not check why the configure script did not have the correct path (I'm assuming this was the case).
Next I'm on to the gtk+ dependencies which I'm going to try to solve with macports if I have to. I

Search with specified charset
I've seen a problem with searching in the Prayer webmail client that
turns out to be caused by Prayer insisting on a charset called
"ISO-8859-1" and Dovecot, using Solaris iconv, not recognising it (all
the Solaris 8 iconv modules appear to be "ISO8859-1" etc. or just "8859-1").
This isn't a problem in Linux:
% iconv --list | grep 8859.1/

[PATCH] Add a cache for iconv_t handles to hive_t
It was brought to my attention that dumping a registry hive causes a
lot of time spent in disk I/O activity because iconv_open() and
iconv_close() are called for every key. Every iconv_open() call causes
/usr/lib/.../gconv/$ENCODING.so to be opened and mapped.
The iconv_t handles are now cached in the hive_h struct; they are
opened on-demand and re-used.

Revised flags patch
Hi,
first of all, sorry for taking so long. Unfortunately, some other tasks
kept coming up. Anyway, attached is the version of the flags patch, that
is based on the one I'm using with 2.6.9. It is against the rsync-3.0.0pre9
release.
I've included the option name change from the repository, so the
option is now called --fileflags. Improved from the previously
distributed version is the

Subject: patch: non-ASCII characters in node names
Hi Richard,
I was a little bit surprised when a colleague claimed that key and value
names in the registry could contain non-ASCII characters.

UTF-8 patch for Samba 2.0.7
See description in the attached patch.
-------------- next part --------------
This quick hack adds primitive support of UTF-8 as a server 'character
set' to Samba 2.0.7. All file, share and user names are stored on server
in UTF-8, and translated into client code page (not UCS2) on the fly.
Additionally, server string conversion is added. Tested with Chinese and
Russian Windows clients.

[PATCH v3 1/2] common: extract UTF-8 conversion function
libxml2-utils.c local_string_to_utf8() function could easily be reused
in other places. This commit extracts it with a new parameter to allow
giving the encoding of the input string and publishes it in
guestfs-utils.h as guestfs_int_string_to_utf8()
