Sync different copies of a filesystem
I have 5 or 6 :-( different copies of a filesystem on various Linux
boxen, all backups taken at different times, with different exclusions,
and squirreled away. Now's the time to clean up my attic. I'd like to
merge them all into one big filesystem. When there are different copies
of the same files, I'd like to keep the newest; I don't know what else
to do. My plan (assuming

F values from a Repeated Measures aov
Hi Folks,
I have repeated measures for data on association time (under 2
acoustic condtions) in male and female frogs as they grow to adulthood
(6 timepoints). Thus, two within-subject variables (Acoustic
Condition: 2 levels, Timepoint: 6 levels) and one between-subject
variable (Sex:male or female).
I am pretty sure my distributions depart from normality but I would
first like to simply run a

on remote machine: --remove-source-files: unknown option
I'm trying to sync from 3.0.5 to 2.5.5 (SCO, *sigh*) The source
machine errors out b/c the --remove-source-files (or
--remove-sent-files) options don't exist on 2.5.5.
But, since these option are only acted on by the sending machine (which
is where I'm typing the command line), it would be so nice if the source
machine would NOT pass the option on to the receiver (or at least, not

ANOVA: Does a Between-Subjects Factor belong in the Error Term?
I am executing a Repeated Measures Analysis of Variance with 1 DV (LOCOMOTOR
RESPONSE), 2 Within-Subjects Factors (AGE, ACOUSTIC CONDITION), and 1
Between-Subjects Factor (SEX).
Does anyone know whether the between-subjects factor (SEX) belongs in the
Error Term of the aov or not? And if it does belong, where in the Error Term
does it go? The 3 possible scenarios are listed below:

FORWARD:REJECT messages in Shorewall
(Shorewall 1.4.4b; running the Mandrake edition.) Occasionally, usually during
a zone transfer, I get unusual Shorewall messages, like this:

SRC=10.1.1.1 DST=10.1.1.230 LEN=54 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=63 ID=21332 DF
PROTO=UDP SPT=4778 DPT=53 LEN=34
where the src is the DNS master, and the DST is the slave server.

Extracting formula from an lm object
I want to extra the part of the formula not including the response
variable from an lm object. For example if the lm object ABx.lm was
created by the call
ABx.lm <- lm( y ~ A + B + x, ...)
Then ACx.lm is saved as part of a workspace.
I wish to extract "~ A + B + x". Later in my code I will fit another
linear model of the form z ~ A + B + x for some other response variable z.

rsync 2.5.5 segmentation fault on Linux x86.
Hi all.
I have a script which I call from cron. It basically does some stopping
of a few services, rsyncs all files to a remote server and then starts
the services again. However, rsync segfaults:
/share/bin/cron.root.backup.sh: line 28: 18453 Segmentation fault rsync -acx --delete ${_backup_dirs} backup-server::backup-client
If I run rsync from the command-line everything works as

SNR, especially on a single sample, can be very misleading. Yet, could
you just check that the DSP results match what you get on a PC?

Sonic Mega Collection crashes on startup.
Ubuntu 8.04
Wine 1.1.10
The sonic mega collection contains almost every genesis sonic game, along with some game gear sonics.
The game installed flawlessly, and the no-cd patch worked also. However, upon loading, it shows a faint shadow of the famous SEGA startup screen and then locks up and must be force killed. Changing it to various compat modes did nothing.

How to stop access to a share in the samba server?
Hi
I am mouving from PC-NFS to SAMBA and thare are some thinks that I would
like to see in SAMBA.
In NFS, when I do not want a share to be accessible, I just use the
command: unshare /shared/directory
This make the /shared/directory imediataly not accessible. Even by some one
already using it!
I?m using SAMBA 1.9.18p10 in a SUN Solaris 2.5 and i try to change
smb.comf to disable one share,

nis homedir troubles
Sorry if this is an old problem. I have just installed 1.9.18p10 - the
latest version. I noticed the nis homedir option in the config file, but
have not had much luck in implementing it.
I had hoped it would mean my [homes] shares would map to the correct server
- the one which physically carries a users home directory - regardless of
the machine to which the connection attempt was made. My

Actually, build 10143 introduced another bug, that was the reason for
the 1.1.11.1 release.

Problem with root filesystem
I am using a Redhat 7.1 system with the Kernel 2.4.10.
I have the two partitions on the system:
/dev/hda1 = /
/dev/hb5 = /extra
I was able to create the journal for both filesystems using the tune2fs -j command.
I have also updated my "fstab" file to reflect "ext3"
When I try to reboot the machine without unmounting the filesystems. It still shows that I have not cleanly

I ran the same dd tests from KnowYourNFSAlpha-1.pdf and performance is
inconsistent and causes the server to become unresponsive.
My server freezes every time when I run the following command:

I would also like to mount a path like: /volume/some/random/dir

Rebuild of kernel 2.6.9-67.0.20.EL failure
Hello list.
I'm trying to rebuild the 2.6.9.67.0.20.EL kernel, but it fails even without
modifications.
How did I try it?
Created a (non-root) build environment (not a mock )
Installed the kernel.scr.rpm and did a
rpmbuild -ba --target=`uname -m` kernel-2.6.spec 2> prep-err.log | tee
prep-out.log
The build failed at the end:
