Protocol stream error copying extended attribute, silent failure to copy all data
I'm using rsync 3.0.7 on Mac OS X 10.6, compiled with HFS+ enhancements according to Mike Bombich's instructions at http://www.bombich.com/rsync.html. Rsync repeatedly exits with a protocol data stream error on some com.apple.FinderInfo extended attributes. While testing this issue, I found that rsync is not copying all extended attributes even when there is no error message. I'm using

Truetype and Opentype font in pdf device
Deal all, I want to know if truetype or opentype fonts are available in pdf device (i.e., pdf() or dev.copy2pdf()), and if so, how to do it? Now I can do as followings: 1. convert ttf to afm using ttf2afm, e.g.: $ ttf2afm Impact.ttf > Impact.afm 2. put the afm file in $R_HOME/library/grDevices/afm 3. register a new type1 font: pdfFonts(Impact=Type1Font("Impact",

HFS+ resource forks: WIP patch included
As you all know, rsync doesn't have any special handling for Mac OS X HFS+ resource forks. Kevin Boyd made RsyncX and rsync_hfs, to address this gap, but they only work when the destination filesystem is also HFS+. I haven't been able to find any references to an rsync that is capable of syncing from HFS+ to UFS (etc). The only solutions I've seen involve lots of preprocessing

Migration to vfs_fruit with existing AppleDouble files?
If the code to convert FinderInfo is in a version later than 4.3.6 then I can request FreeNAS update their version. Can you let me know? vfs_fruit: xattr imcompatible with netatalk
Hi. I'm testing samba 4.2.0 vfs_fruit on Fedora Server 22-alpha. I confirmed that ResourceFork and FinderInfo are compatible with Netatalk 3.1.7. However, EAs are incompatible. The character ":" in EA name is wrong. The EAs are not seen from clients. smb.conf: [test2] path = /export/test2 writable = yes vfs objects = catia fruit streams_xattr fruit:locking =

Migration to vfs_fruit with existing AppleDouble files?
(apologies to Ralph, I replied directly to him w/o copying the lists, so here we go again) In my testing that wasn't the case. If I manually copy the apple generated AppleDouble file and it's 0 byte main file to my test system, the correct size (including the resource forks) are shown but the file type is not translated. Using "GetFileInfo" a file copied to the new

[ANNOUNCE] font-misc-ethiopic 1.0.4
This minor maintenance release rolls up the past decade's worth of fixes & cleanups. Of particular note: This package contains two font versions: TrueType and OpenType. One may want to install only one of them and (re)generate font.scale for this introduce two new config options: --disable-opentype-install and --disable-truetype-install Alan Coopersmith (5):

Font quality in base graphics
I am attempting to get publication quality graphs using R on Ubuntu. I encounter lots of problems in using cex to control font size: for instance cex=1.5 results in very blocky characters. I then tried to use res=1200 while creating a PNG file, hoping that this would solve the problem, but it did not. When doing the above, a second problem appeared: the font size relative to the graphics decreased

Operation not supported (95)
Hi guys, I'm running into a problem that I'm sure which part of the process fails. I use wget (OSX Leopard, wget 3.0.6 compiled from source) to backup my ~/Pictures directory to a linux server, also with wget 3.0.6 (Debian). In persuit of being sure I get everything from HFS filesystem (resource fork/metadata), I'm getting the following error: rsync: rsync_xal_set:

Bugg when using Extended Attributes flag -X
Hello, I found that using rsync on OS X can give some problems when it comes to Extended Attributes (-X flag). The server I use has Ubuntu with the filesystem XFS and I am trying to backup a OS X system to it. The problem is as far as I understand it that Linux Kernel has a liming on 64k f?r Extended Attributes and OS X don?t have this limit. Some error output. rsync: rsync_xal_set:

Categorizing Fonts using Statistical Methods
Dear list members, Every "modern" OS comes with dozens of useless fonts, so that the current font drop-down list in most programs is overcrowded with fonts one never will use. Selecting a useful font becomes a nightmare. In an attempt to ease the selection of useful fonts, I began looking into sorting fonts using some statistical techniques. I summed my ideas on the OpenOffice.org

xattrs on symlinks
As we all know, only osx supports xattrs on symlinks. Unfortunately, not only does osx support xattrs on symlinks, *every* symlink has, at the least, com.apple.FinderInfo. When backing up to a linux system, this results in one error message per symlink: rsync: rsync_xal_set: lsetxattr("User Guides And Information","user.com.apple.FinderInfo") failed: Operation not
