Getting rsync to store timing information in its logs
Is there a way to know from the rsync logs how long it took to do a backup?
The only timing info,. I see is this at the end:
sent 3067328 bytes received 7853035429 bytes 1187888.83 bytes/sec
total size is 1559866450336 speedup is 198.55
Can I use it to figure out how long the operation took?
Does the above mean it took 2.5 secs of send time and 1.8 hours of
recieve time so (roughly) the

Simple whole volume copy
I have a volume at 192.168.0.2 on my local network. I'd like to rsync the
entire volume to a backup volume, skip all files already present on the
backup volume (same name and the same or earlier timestamp), and include all
flags, dates, etc. as applicable to Mac OS X 10.6.x.
Can someone tell me the proper command to do this.

Good SLOG devices?
Hi
I''m running OpenSolaris 148 on a few boxes, and newer boxes are getting installed as we speak. What would you suggest for a good SLOG device? It seems some new PCI-E-based ones are hitting the market, but will those require special drivers? Cost is obviously alsoo an issue here....

Testing Migrations
Is there some standard way to test migrations?
It seems to me that an additional safeguard for migrations would be to
test and see if applying the migrations to the test database allows one
to reconstruct the structure of the development database.
If you can''t, then there is an error in your migrations, most likely
because someone hand-modified the database without generating a

downloading only specific directories from directory tree
Hello:
I have read rsync manual and several howtos on how to use rsync, still
I don't know if it's doable what I want to do, and if yes, how.
The scenario:
I would like to make a local copy of openSUSE 13.2 repositories.
I use openSUSE linux.
The repos are located in a multi-level directory structure, eg:
ftp://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/opensuse/repositories/

Rsync and DTrace
Hello all..
Using dtrace on solaris 10, i could investigate a performance issue with the sincronization of some files on a ZFS filesystem. I have started the follow rsync command (inside a gnome-terminal):
/opt/sfw/bin/rsync -av -e ssh user@IP:/DirA/DirB .
The current directory(.), was a ZFS pool with two SATA discs (mirror)...
The performance was terrible. After some tests with raid0,

Offtopic: Which SAS / SATA HBA do you recommend?
Hi all,
Sorry for the offtopic question. I hope though that others on this list
or reading the archive find the answers useful too.
It seems the Adaptec 1405 4port SAS HBA I bought only works with RHEL
and SuSE through a closed source driver, and thus is quite useless :-(
I was stupid enought to think "Works with RHEL and SuSE" meant "Certified

[OT] Leveno HDD caddies
This is very off topic but, I have no idea where else to ask. We obtained
some used Leveno CTO7483 desktop units for experimentation. I had intended to
install CentOS-7 on one of them. As they arrived with a vendor upgraded
Windows 7ProSP1 install without media I decided to pull the disk drive and
install onto a spare drive that I installed.
Those of you with any experience with this model

transferred files have ",v" at their end
Hi Guys,
When I transfer files with rsync to my server, all the files get a ",v"
added to the extension. Do you know why is this?
I am using the command described on sourceforge
rsync -av rsync://PROJECTNAME.cvs.sourceforge.net/cvsroot/PROJECTNAME/* .
and I get files like "build.xml,v"
If I do a search for the exact phrase with search engines, "build.xml,v", I

[OT?] Lam and tree view...
I see LAM-related announcment here, so i hope i'm not too much
offtopic.
I use LAM (LDAP Account manager) by many years, previously on
OpenLDAP/Samba ''NT mode'' domains, now on AD mode.
LAM works as expected in AD mode, but i've noted that i cannot use the

[GSoC 2016] Better Alias Analysis By Default - Mid Term Summary
Dear LLVM Community,
This is a brief summary of what I've done so far for CFL-AA, and what I
plan to do next.
tl;dr: CFL-AA is getting saner. Low-hanging fruits on its improvement
have almost been picked up. I can either make CFL-AA more precise (with
certain performance cost), or teach other passes to capitalize on CFL-AA
better as the next step. Comments and suggestions are more than

ZFS storage server hardware
Hi,
I know (from the zfs-discuss archives and other places [1,2,3,4]) that a
lot of people are looking to use zfs as a storage server in the 10-100TB
range.
I''m in the same boat, but I''ve found that hardware choice is the biggest
issue. I''m struggling to find something which will work nicely under
solaris and which meets my expectations in terms of hardware.
