Non-standard usage of rsync
Hi,
I am thinking about a non-standard usage of rsync (at least not
mentioned in the man file)
I want to synchronized my collegues home directories(trees) each night
AND store rsync's internal updating commands (reversed) to be able
to restore the state of a directory the day before.
This would require
- saving the internal updating commands in a separate directory
- reversing these commands

[2.5.6] File table overflow
Hi,
on my linux box (2.4.21-pre4-ac4)
I've used rsync to mirror a rather large /usr/local tree (4 Gb)
After transmission of many files I get the error message
rsync error: some files could not be transferred (code 23) at main.c(1045)
According to /usr/include/asm/errno.h the code 23 says
File table overflow
What can I do about that?
Many thanks for a hint,

mirroring without a network
Hi,
this might be offtopic - please excuse if it turns out to be.
I have rather big ( > 20 Gb) source archives on two different machines.
Unfortunately there is only a very slow network connection between these
machines.
To synchronize these two archives (directory trees), I'd like to
generate a directory tree of signature files (instead of the real ones).
Then I would copy only these to

segment fault with 2.6.6 or CVS
Hi,
I've rebuilt rsync (which was running just fine for quite some time)
and it works if used via ssh or if the daemon is started via ssh.
But it crashed in daemon mode (started standalone or by xinetd)
Here is the gdb log
gdb ...

run --daemon --no-detach
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

Specify Includes Only
Hi, sorry if this has been asked before, but I just can't find anywhere on the net that tells me how to do this. I've been trying for ages to get this right, using various forms of --include-from, --exclude, --filter, etc.
I want to copy only specific directories that contain specific filetypes, from sourcedir to destdir. For example, I want to copy all .mp3 and all .ogg files found in

[LLVMdev] .ll test cases for tail call optimization in test-suite
In order to test the tail call optimization i created quite a few .ll
files and added them to the SingleSource directory in the test-suite.
For example llvm-test/SingleSource/Tailcall/tailcall1-2.ll.
Since i don't want opt to inline the tailcalls away :) i changed the rules
in the Makefile situated in the TailCall directory.
I want to compare the output of a file compile with normal llc with

the EXTRAVERSION problem in dh-kpatches...
... is actually old & very well known by the maintainer!
there is a bug report for exactly this that is 3 years and 124 days old!
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=165505
I can also add my report to this bug and mention that we need a fixed version
for our xen packages, but as it looks for me (at the moment) the maintainer
is not really interessted in getting this

installing R on RedHat
Dear R People:
Yet again, I am attempting to install R on RedHat Linux.
Here is my sorry attempt to date:
[hodgess at gator hodgess]$ rpm -vi R.rpm
warning: R.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 97d3544e
error: cannot write to %sourcedir /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES
I only want to write it to my own userid, since I am the only one
who uses it.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks,

Backup to NTFS USB drive --compare-dest not working
When I'm running "rsync --compare-dest" on a local Linux volume (ext4) it
works as expected (duplicate files not created) however when same commands
with same options are run on NTFS USB drive (in my scenario below mounted to
/share/external/sdt5) all the files are copied regardless if they have been
updated or not. I have spent many hours trying to figure out what could be
wrong and
