Bad packet length error
Hello, I just built openssh-2.5.2p2 on an HP running HP-UX 11.00. Seems now when I try and connect to other HP's running ssh with version openssh-2.3.0p1 (using protocol version 2), I'm getting disconnected because of a "Bad packet length" error: ssh -v isd1 ... debug1: ssh_dss_verify: signature correct debug1: Wait SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS. debug1: GOT SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS. debug1: send

problems with rsync in cygwin
Hi, I'm trying to set up rsync, with the transfers originating from a Win2K box and going to a Linux box. Both boxes are on my home LAN, so ssh is not required; I thought I would simply use the rsync protocol. I set up xinetd on my Linux box to start a rsync server when needed. My first attempts at a test run failed like so: $ rsync -a /cygdrive/c/installs/palm rsync://192.168.2.3/palm

--delete-missing-args doesn't delete
I'm generating a list of files to sync, and would like all the files not in my list to be deleted from the destination. I thought that --delete-missing-args would do just that, but it doesn't delete anything. Would someone have an idea of what I'm doing wrong? This is what I tried : ~$ mkdir -p /tmp/source /tmp/dest ~$ for i in {1..3}; do echo "keep $i"      >

--delete-missing-args doesn't delete
--files-from will delete files from the destination that are listed but not existing in the source. It isn't delete what isn't listed. rsync via restricted ssh command=
I've read a few tutorials about how to use rsync via ssh using the command= functionality to restrict where the user can sync to. I've got this on the on the destination side in it's ~/.ssh/authorized_keys... command="rsync --server -vvnlogDtpre.iLsf --timeout=999 . bkp",no-port-forwarding,no-X11-forwarding,no-agent-forwarding ssh-rsa AAetc I've tried variations of the

--delete-missing-args doesn't delete
Thank you Kevin. It seems that I misunderstood the purpose of this --delete-missing-args option. If someone has a good suggestion on how to rsync a list of files and delete from the destination any file that is not listed in --files-from, that would be welcome. Thanks, MI -------- Original Message -------- (Kevin Korb via rsync, 2019-04-23 14:11) > --files-from will delete files from

Why doesn't rsync update this file?
Hi - Comparing some backups with original data, I've found a file which is transferred if --checksum is enabled, but isn't normally. Strangely the mtime of the file appears to be different. I don't know why rsync isn't copying it. I'm doing [root at localsys tmp]# rsync -ravv remote:/root/tmp/ ./ opening connection using: ssh remote rsync --server --sender - vvlogDtpre.iLsf

What repo did this rpm come from? rpm-VVa failures on new install
Here is a list of files that I have not (knowingly) modified that do not pass rpm verification immediately after I installed centos 5.3. I am not really sure what this means - are the packagers sending out sloppy rpms, or is something going around modifying stuff? Other than the texmf stuff, the list seems to consist entirely of config files. Does yum or rpm or something do some instant

Booting from Compact Flash
Hi all, Advance apologies if this is OT; if so, please mail me offlist. A client is considering using CentOS5.1 for an embedded project. They will be booting from Compact Flash. The CF in the device is being controlled by a VIA VT6421 SATA/RAID controller. Are there drivers available or must we truly 'roll our own' when compiling the 2.6x kernel for this? I've done some

Unexplicable difference between 2 R installations regarding reading numbers
Dear all, A colleague of mine reported a problem that I fail to understand completely. He has a number of .csv files that look all very straightforward, and they all read in perfectly well using read.csv() on both his and my computer. When we try the exact same R version on the university server however, suddenly all numeric variables turn into factors. The problem is resolved by deleting the

centos 5.1 i386 on a 1GIG flash
I have found this link http://owlriver.com/tips/tiny-centos for installing centos on a minimal system. I am looking at putting centos on a 1 GIG flash drive. The above page talks about removing packages after install to attain the small size. however, I am getting blocked at the install page about not enough room to install. All I have selected is the base package. nothing else. Is there a way

How to copy just some subdirectories using filter rules
Hi, I always find the same problem when trying to properly configure my remote backups so have decided to ask here since, surely, I miss something :) I just want to copy some directories (and their full content) from a server to my PC. This is what I "try" to use: rsync -vv -a --relative --delete --force --delete-excluded \ --include-from=/etc/backup.filter \

Incremental transfers: how to tell?
Hello. I just started messing around with RSync to synchronize some RRD files between a couple BSD/Linux boxes. To test, I'm just trying to sync about 20 of these files which are about 256KB each. It seems that the full contents of each file are being transferred each time; i.e., the incremental transfer feature isn't working. I'm basing this assumption on output such as the
