rsync stopped working
Running Debian 8.2, xfce 4.10, rsync 3.1.1-3. I just edited my backup script as follows:

# rsync -vaHz --delete --exclude '/proc' --exclude '*.iso' --exclude '/sys' --exclude '/home/holtzm/Documents/*.iso' --exclude '/media'

exclude being ignored
Running debian wheezy w/ rsync 3.0.9-4. The command in question is
rsync -vahHz --delete --exclude '/proc' --exclude '*.iso' --exclude
'/home/holtzm/mail/backup' --exclude '/sys ' --exclude '/tmp'--exclude
'/media' /. /media/cf0a98ed-3c11-4107-b61e-f5139d024396/Wheezy-laptop

restoring system
I have restored my home directory in the past using rsync but never the
entire system. If I rsync / (on my usb drive containing the backup) to /
on the computer with a fresh install of the OS, what problems will I run
into? What about links? I am presently triple booting 3 linux distros and
want to delete one to install something else. The distro I'm installing
will be on 3 partitions (/,

Note the lack of a space here: --exclude '/tmp'--exclude
Also, just use / for the source instead of /.
Also, don't use -z on a local copy.

Many thanks for the reply/solution. I've looked at the command 10-12
times and missed the omission of the space. I had been dinking around
with it and

Is it possible to be on the rsync list without getting all the samba bugs?
When I signed up for the rsync mailing list, I was not expecting to
get all the samba bugs as well.
Is it possible to be on just the rsync mailing list, without being on
the bug report list as well?

Post held in moderation "Rsync chokes on this file"
I sent a message with the above subject:"Rsync chokes on this file", which
as a 7Mb file attached to it and got a message that the post was held in
moderation because the attached file is too large.
What is the procedure for sending a file to the developers for checking?
Can I upload the file somewhere and create a link to it in my email, or
submit it to some email account that permits

WINE fails in directories with Question Marks in name
Is there a way to tell WINE that question marks in directory names are okay? WINE fails whenever I ask it to access a file from within a directory with a question mark in its name.
Specifically, my HTPC marks all commercials using WINE and Comskip. Whenever the schedule includes a tv show with a question mark in its title, WINE fails. Here are the logs that illustrate the failure.

Unhandled exception error on single account
I'm running into a strange problem with an unhandled exception when I run a wine command using one account, but not another(!).
I'd very much appreciate any help troubleshooting this, as I must run wine from the account with the problem. I've gone through and cross-checked environment variables and permissions, but nothing obvious pops out.
Here's wine the way it should work on

Vorbis stream on-line
Greetings:
Ouch, that's not good. I can tap into the stream just fine with 'xmms
http://64.108.112.135:8000/shouter.ogg' but not by clicking on the same
address as a link. More debugging ahead... ;)
Btw, I've restarted the stream.
Thanks for the report !

libao-0.8.5 patch
Hi!
There are some little inconvenience in libao-0.8.5.
- The biggest is may that:
the documentation and the header file declare the ao_file_extension function,
which give a hint for the file extension where the device is realy a sound
file. This function is missing.
-An other: the alsa 0.5 and the alsa 0.9+ drivers short name. It will be better
if the alsa 0.5's name will be alsa05 and the

If you use --exclude=pattern instead of --exclude patter those become
more obvious. Also, you wouldn't have turned 'media' into an
additional source parameter.
