Why doesn't rsync update this file?
Hi - Comparing some backups with original data, I've found a file which is transferred if --checksum is enabled, but isn't normally. Strangely the mtime of the file appears to be different. I don't know why rsync isn't copying it. I'm doing [root at localsys tmp]# rsync -ravv remote:/root/tmp/ ./ opening connection using: ssh remote rsync --server --sender - vvlogDtpre.iLsf

rsync rewrites all blocks of large files although it uses delta transfer
With --backup in order to end up with 2 files it has to write out a whole new file. Sure, it only sent the differences (normally that means over the network but there is no network here) but the writing end was told to duplicate the file being updated before updating it. rsync fails to retrieve file (if local file is incorrect)
I'm using rsync on an embedded powerpc platform with flash filesystem. Because of a power-cycle a local file got corrupted. This file is /flashfs/isd1, it has the correct size but wrong MD5SUM (cd5...). Using rsync to retrieve the right file (from a remote machine) fails! If I delete the file first, it works (see below). How is this possible ? --- N. van Bolhuis. # md5sum /flashfs/isd1

rsync rewrites all blocks of large files although it uses delta transfer
Hi All, For a backup purpose I'm trying to transfer only the changed blocks of large files. Thus I've run "rsync" with the appropriate options: RSYNC_BKPDIR=`mktemp -d` rsync \ --archive \ --no-whole-file \ --inplace \ --backup \ --backup-dir="$RSYNC_BKPDIR" \ --verbose \ --stats \ /var/backups/mysql-dbs/. \ /mnt/bkp/var/backups/mysql-dbs/. Copied file becomes infinately large
I'm trying to back-up a set of windows machines onto a single Linux machine, so that I can easily make a tape from there. The Linux Machine (RedHat 7.3, running samba 2.2.6), is set to use mount.smbfs to log in to each machine's Administrative share, and copy several files from the hard drive. One machine is giving me a great deal of difficulty, however. Our last remaining window's

Bug when using rsync -r --delete -b --backup-dir
Consider following directory structure: > mkdir -p src/empty tgt bkp when making an initial backup with > rsync -r src/ tgt then the empty directory in src will be copied to tgt. However, if the directory is removed from src > rmdir src/empty and rsync is run like > rsync -r --delete -b --backup-dir=../bkp src/ tgt/ then the empty directory does end up in bkp. I am using

Copied file becomes infinate
Colin, I know that on Windows, when you copy and Immensely large single file, there are times when it will show something like 100 years in minutes to complete the copy. Your issue could be related to that issue with Windows. You say that you copy files over from several other systems without a problem. Are those files on the other systems single small files or are they also in

Still having trouble with copying large files
I had originally written about this problem last month (http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/samba/2002-November/085418.html) Since then, our company has added another Windows Fileserver which I'm trying to back up, and they are both having the problem. Because it happens on both servers, this leads me to believe it really is a problem with my Samba server. I've upgraded to 2.2.7a, as the

Delete files using no recursion
Hi all, I'm running rsync (2.6.2) this way (which do not remove files from the destination side which were removed from the sending side): rsync -vbu --backup-dir=/bkp --stats /dir1/*.fle /dir2 I want to sync all .fle files from dir1 to the dir2 and also remove files from the destination which were removed from the sending side, using no recursion. Already tried this:

Problems with "net rpc trustdom establish"
Hello peaplo. I?m training to establish a domain relationship. The first comand "#net rpc trustdom adm aaa -S bkp -U root%111 -I 192.168.0.1" is working fine. But when a trai to establish with this command: "#net rpc trustdom establish adm -S bkp -U root%111 -I 192.168.0.1" I receive this message: [2006/05/23 18:16:45, 0] utils/net_rpc.c:rpc_trustdom_establish(4632)

Problem rsyncing 450GB file to my NAS: 'connection unexpectedly closed'
Hi list! I'm trying to use rsync to do a regular remote backup of a 450GB sized container file located on my squeeze server onto a colocated QNap NAS device. Both use rsync 3.0.7. While this setup works for most files, it fails on this large file (see log below). I'm already trying to help rsync using "-P" to indicate that rsync should reuse the current copy and not trying

RMAN backups on Glusters
Sending again. Can somebody please take a look and let me know is this is doable? Folks, We have glusters with version 3.8.13 and we are using that for RMAN backups. We get errors/warnings, RMAN-03009: failure of backup command on C1 channel at 03/28/2018 16:55:43 ORA-19510: failed to set size of 184820 blocks for file

file_mode and dir_mode options ignored
Hi there. I'm using samba3x-3.5.4-0.83.el5_7.2 on CentOS release 5.7 x86_64 to mount a Terastation filesystem. The "file_mode" and "dir_mode" options to mount.cifs seem to be ignored; I systematically get a "drwxrwxrwx" permission, no matter what values I provide for these options: # mount.cifs //terastation/Backup /bkp/BackupPC/ -o

What is exit code 5888?
It is an exit 0 (success) that is being multiplied by 23 for some reason and whatever (shell?) is running rsync doesn't recognize that. RFC: More explicit ssh agent forwarding on SSH_ASKPASS confirmation
This is an old idea I had, resurrected by the mention of changing the agent protocol in "ssh-agent allowing access to other users?" thread. Currently, when you forward the ssh-agent, the forwarded host has the same rights as the local user. And when the key requires confirmation, the is quite terse: "Allow use of key foobar? Key fingerprint abcdf." It would be desirable to
