more filelist --stats
The attached diff causes rsync to show how much time it spends on building and sending its filelist. I'd appreciate if you could consider this change for inclusion in a future release. -------------- next part -------------- diff -ru rsync-2.6.3pre1/flist.c rsync-2.6.3pre1+tykhe/flist.c --- rsync-2.6.3pre1/flist.c 2004-08-12 14:20:07.000000000 -0400 +++ rsync-2.6.3pre1+tykhe/flist.c

PATCH: fast copy of files in local server mode
Dear List, the attached patch makes rsync of local folders almost as fast as cp. when rsync client and server has detected that they are working in local_server mode, they use local_socket, a unix domain socket pair, to pass the file descriptors of the synced files. the server uses the file descriptor it receives from the client to fast copy from src to dst file. on completion of every file fast

Progress reporting: N more to check
A recent posting here got me thinking about having the --progress output tell the user about how many files were left to go in the transfer. I submit the attached patch which outputs an extra suffix onto the progress line at the end of each file's transfer (so it only appears once per file, not on every status update). The output would look like this: [...] flist.c 35671 100%

FADV_DONTNEED support
While going through an old todo list I found that these patches had fallen by the way-side. About a year ago I initiated a discussion[1] with the Linux kernel folks regarding the lack of any useable fadvise support on the kernel side. As a result, I was observing extremely poor performance on my server after backup as executable pages were being swapped out in favor of data waiting to be flushed

a strange behavior on a small memory system with tun0
Hello I am using openssh as vpn on a router with freewrt.org and rsync to sync my local data to a remote server. Everything works fine for me so far. The only problem is that the channel-1 (tun0) goes down on the router after 50-200MB transfered via tun0 or after 5-20 hours only with a ping to the server . Channel-0 is still working. Tcpdump shows that a ping from the router to the server via

about rsyncing of block devices
Hiya, I can see it's a regular subject on this list. I, like others wanted to use rsync to synchronise two block devices (as it happens one lvm volume and one nbd device served by qemu-img on a remote host from a qcow2 disk image so that I can keep the old versions) As I couldn't find any report of it being done successfully, I'm just sharing my findings as it might benefit others.

[LLVMdev] IRBuilder<>::CreateCall, CreateCall2, CreateCall3, ...
Hey guys, Whys are there like 5 variants of CreateCall in IRBuilder<> with numbers appended to them? The only difference I can see is the number of arguments. Aren't C++ function overloads be suited for this? Félix

An overload could work, but this sort of API makes it more obvious which one you're trying to call and

[patch] read-devices
Greetings, I'd like to propose a new option to rsync, which causes it to read device files as if they were regular files. This includes pipes, character devices and block devices (I'm not sure about sockets). The main motivation is cases where you need to synchronize a large amount of data that is not available as regular files, as in the following scenarios: * Keep a copy of a block
