Possibly unusual question involving windows version of wine.
Hey, I've heard that in a few fringe cases, WINE actually improves performance in a game.
I believe I may be in one of these few fringe cases.
Anyway, is there anyway to run a program in wine, while on windows? I've downloaded the windows binary .zips and I have no idea what to do with them. I've tried running the game through the wcmd.exe, but that does not seem to change

Video Resolution
Hi
I've just installed Tachyon: The Fringe and it plays but the max
resolution that it detects is 1024x768.
My monitor is 1600x900. Is there some way of helping it detect the
full resolution?
I've tried running with a desktop, but no joy.
Wine version 1.7.46

thematic map of USA
My goal is to prepare a thematic map of the US, with states shaded
according to their values for a variable of interest. I would like to
include an inset for Alaska in the upper left and an inset for Hawaii in
the lower left. If possible, I'd like to use Albers conic projection, or
something similar. Thus far I have tried using the maps package with
its state database (which omits

CyberPower usbhid-ups continuously disconnects/reconnect
I have had a similar problem to many other people for the last few
months with my Cyberpower UPS. It was working properly after reboot
about one in five times; the rest of the time it would endlessly
disconnect and reconnect, according to syslog messages.
The latest I was able to find towards a solution is

Clock problems on live migration
Hi everyone,
While doing a live migration, Linux guests will frequently get stuck and
become unresponsive, while the CPU utilization on the host for that
guest goes to 100%. Sometimes they recover, and dmesg then shows that
there's been a clock problem during the live migration:
Clocksource tsc unstable (delta = 35882846234 ns)
So the TSC did a jump of nearly 36 seconds.

[PATCH] nouveau/led: prevent compiling the led-code if nouveau=y and leds=m
The proper fix would have been to select LEDS_CLASS but this can lead
to a circular dependency, as found out by Arnd.
This patch implements Arnd's suggestion instead, at the cost of some
auto-magic for a fringe feature.

bash off topic
So others have commented about the particulars of bash and shell quotes, etc.
I wanted to suggest you take a look at ShellCheck [1,2] and BATS [3].
I have been doing syntax, lint, and acceptance testing for Puppet code
for about a year...and love it... but I recently came across these and
have been working to apply the same principles to my shell script
projects. The sheer number of fringe bugs

Getting high precision values from qnorm in the tail
Hello All
I am looking for high precision values for the normal distribution in the
tail,(1e-10 and 1 - 1e-10) as the R package that I am using sets any number
which is out of this range to these values and then calls the qnorm and qt
function.
What I have noticed is that the qnorm implementation in R is not symmetric
when looking at the tails. This is quite surprising to me, as it is well
known

Pending Scenarios
Hi there,
newb q: The "pending" support for spec''s and steps is nice. I''m just
wondering why a scenario itself can''t be pending? I.e. it seems to me like
it would be nice to write up scenario titles for scenarios as you think of
them, and for low-priority fringe scenarios leave the steps unwritten until
it comes time to implement the scenario?
Is there a

Hi,
I've been using rsync (OSX Tiger now Leopard) to backup my home
folder daily using -a -H -A -X link-dest=dir to make incremental
backups. There was a problem though since many files especially
images, movies etc would be recopied each time instead of creating
hard links. I have been testing the pre5 release and found that it
seems to make hard links correctly for all files. I

Off Topic: Statistical "philosophy" rant
R-Listers.
The following is a rant originally sent privately to Frank Harrell in
response to remarks he made on this list. The ideas are not new or original,
but he suggested I share it with the list, as he felt that it might be of
wider interest, nonetheless. I have real doubts about this, and I apologize
in advance to those who agree that I should have kept my remarks private.

question about Effect.Highlight and IE 5.5
I''ve recently begun testing some of the scriptaculous functionality in
IE 5.5, since my company wants me to support as many browsers as
possible. When I do an Effect.Highlight on a <tr>, it doesn''t quite
work right. I''ve figured out a few things, but I''m not sure whether you
want to change them or not. Here''s what I know:

Fring and Asterisk
Hi,
Is anyone using Fring as a SIP client to an Asterisk server ?
A prospective customer of mine is asking to integrate its iphones with an
Asterisk server and after googling, I still have some unanswered questions :
1. Which codecs are available when calling from fring ?
2. Is it easy and natural to change your presence status (available, busy,
...) with Fring or will users prefer to use
