Rsync / ssh high cpu load
Hi, ssh: OpenSSH_5.3p1 rsync: 3.0.6 OS: CentOS release 6.3 I got the same problem here, syncing 95M to amazon ec2 without --bwlimit parameter. It should be not caused by cygwin. From 3.0.6 to latest version, I did not find any ssh related problem fixed. After the syncing job is over, ssh process did not quit and consumes 100% CPU. I collected other information, wish it may help. related

rsync sleep
Is it possible to sleep 1 second after each file is rsynced? Ofcourse, I can put this in a for loop and do a sleep after each file is done, I was wondering if there was anything native in rsync for this type of operation. TIA

Question on SSH_ASKPASS
Hi everybody, I have asked a question a long time ago regarding SSH_ASKPASS, but with the latest version of OpenSSH I am not able to get the desired result. My goal is to launch a script on a remote server via SSH without having to type a password, because it is locally executed from a script. This should not be too complicated, but somehow I am not able to figure this out myself. I have

Simultaneously summarizing many models
Dear R users, Let?s say I have 10 models, each named m1,m2,m3..., and I would like to summarize them automatically and simultaneously - e.g., to extract parameter estimates later on from all models; how can I do that? I have tried: x=1:10 #this creates some example data y=rnorm(10) m1=lm(x~y) m2=lm(x~1) sum.lms=function(x)summary(paste("m",x,sep="")) sum.lms(1:2) but

limiting the number of connections per client
Hello All, We have a very high utilization rsync server. We can handle large number of connections at a time, but would like to limit to one connection per client. we don't want multiple connections from the same client. Is that possible? Thanks Saqib http://enterprise20.squarespace.com

Extract correlations from a matrix
Dear R users, suppose I have a matrix of observations for which I calculate all pair-wise correlations: m=matrix(sample(1:100,replace=T),10,10) w=cor(m,use="pairwise.complete.obs") How do I extract only those correlations that are >0.6? w[w>0.6] #obviously doesn?t work, and I can?t find a way around it. I would very much appreciate any help! Best wishes Christoph (using R

Rsync with spaces in source or destination path
Hi, I am trying to transfer a file that has spaces in its name. The rsync gives me below error. Am I doing anything wrong? #ls -l /tmp/test\ file -rw-rw-r-- 1 xxx xxx 0 Jul 5 02:23 /tmp//test file # /usr/local/bin/rsync --archive /u/masanip/ACH/test\\\ file /tmp/mydir/ rsync: link_stat "/tmp/test\ file" failed: No such file or directory (2) Number of files: 0 Number of

ssh and root on 4.10 = password discovery (maybe)
Hello. I'm not 100% sure if this is a configuration error on my side or a 'bad idea' on sshd/FreeBSD sides. A remote root ssh connection to a FreeBSD 4.10 server (with no remote root access) will allow you to 'work out' the root password. However, if you try the same against 5.2.1 FreeBSD, you have little chance. The following are pretty clear examples. If this is a config

replacing characters in formulae / models
Dear all, How can I replace text in objects that are of class "formula"? y="a * x + b" class(y)="formula" grep("x",y) y[1] Suppose I would like to replace the "x" by "w" in the formula object "y". How can this be done? Somehow, the methods that can be used in character objects do not work 1:1 in formula objects... Many

Feature request, or HowTo? State-full resume rsync transfer
I am looking to do state-full resume of rsync transfers. My network environment is is an unreliable and slow satellite infrastructure, and the files I need to send are approaching 10 gigs in size. In this network environment often times links cannot be maintained for more than a few minutes at a time. In this environment, bandwidth is at a premium, which is why rsync was chosen as ideal for the

glm or transformation of the response?
Dear all, For an introductory course on glm?s I would like to create an example to show the difference between glm and transformation of the response. For this, I tried to create a dataset where the variance increases with the mean (as is the case in many ecological datasets): poissondata=data.frame( response=rpois(40,1:40), explanatory=1:40) attach(poissondata) However, I have run into

Another cygwin/rsync question
Hi, Been using rsync for many years but I'm stuck with this problem. I'ts a simplistic backup using rsync from a Windows 2k3 machine to a Linux box out on the 'net, using pre-shared ssh keys. In this case I'm saving, files belonging to various users, using the administrator account on the windows machine and the destination is a normal user account and its home file area.

MAP_ANON replacement?
Here I would like to suggest a replacement for MAP_ANON on systems which do not have it, such as Solaris < 8. In "man mmap" of Solaris 8: When MAP_ANON is set in flags, and fd is set to -1, mmap() provides a direct path to return anonymous pages to the caller. This operation is equivalent to passing mmap() an open file descriptor on /dev/zero with

inout() in splancs working properly?
I have a problem with function 'inout()' in package 'splancs' on CRAN-R Version 1.2.3 under FreeBSD4.3-STABLE. The following script produces and draws points and a polygon-surrounded area. Repeating the same script many times shows, that points on the polygon-line often, but not always, are outside of the polygon-area. library(splancs) # dataset with polygon (convex

Rsync spawning a child process when pulling files ?
Hi, I am using rsync 3.0.4 on a WinXP machine (with CygWin) to synchronize my files to a RedHat Linux server. Everything is working perfectly, but there is one thing I do not understand. Apparently there is a difference in pushing and pulling files with rsync. When I push my files to the server with this command, I see one rsync process on my WinXP machine, just as expected rsync -rlt -e

GIS and Spatial stats
[this went to me instead of the list; MM, your list maintainer] I am digging in the wrong hole I guess. Where can I find R /S routines for spatial statistics? Also has anyone made an R link to a GIS package? Anyone out there who works in this area? Thanks Richard E. (CYGWIN) Rsync Stalling Upon first file transfer.
Rsync will recieve the file list, and discover the files to consider, and then stalls out on the first actual file transfered. 0 bytes 0kB/s. On the recieving server, the DLGDiagv504f.exe file is named .dlgdiagv504.f.exe.7dd0oa and is only 512 kb. The rsync process still runs after this, like it's in an idle mode. It's not just this file, its been a number of different files.

nested, repeated measure lme
Dear all, Suppose I have a nested, repeated measure lme model. Which of the following formulae is correct? (assuming data are sampled from several plots in an agricultural experiment) (1) y~explanatory.variables,random=~time|block/plot/subplot/individual (2) y~explanatory.variables,random=~time|unique.ID.of.every.individual I have read that (2) is the only approach that works. But how could I

Problem with read.table and scan
I have just installed R on a Windows NT system. Unfortunately I am unable to open any of the data files I wish to work with. I have tried using read.table and scan and to the best of my knowledge am using the correct syntax.
