rsync server bootscript - stop and status considerations
Hello :-) I want to create a boot/shutdown script including the usual restart, start, status and stop options (on Slackware64 13.1). Netsearching for prior art, I did not find any comprehensive examples. The normal technique seems to be to kill the process recorded in the PID file (let's call it the daemon) but this does not terminate all the rsync server processes. Experimenting and

I'm using 3.0.24 with patches from http://us4.samba.org/samba/patches/. On my XP client the print services for Unix are installed, I shared the local printer named 'jet' on the XP client to all users and the connecting user is an existing user on linux (system and samba user) and XP. I cannot execute the dir command in smbclient for this printer: deveis # smbclient -Utb%password

Possible critical Xen issue on Buster
Hey Xen devel team, I’ve never mailed a developer list before, but I’m worried I may have stumbled across a bad Xen/Debian packaging bug. My confidence is somewhere above “just mail -user” and below “open a bug in xen-system-amd64”. Apologies if this is the wrong usage of the list. I’ve updated to Buster, and my Xen kernel no longer boots. I believe it’s because Xen only offers versions 4.11 and

Rsync deletion issue on failure
I didn't see this in the man page or after a cursory Google search. I'm rsync-ing a file from computer A to computer B and the file does not exist yet on computer B. My problem is that on a shoddy Internet connection, if rsync fails due to a connection error, the dot file it creates on computer B is deleted and I have to start the rsync all over from the beginning. Is there a way to

Another cygwin/rsync question
Hi, Been using rsync for many years but I'm stuck with this problem. I'ts a simplistic backup using rsync from a Windows 2k3 machine to a Linux box out on the 'net, using pre-shared ssh keys. In this case I'm saving, files belonging to various users, using the administrator account on the windows machine and the destination is a normal user account and its home file area.

Nut v2.7.3 - how to force shutdown for a specifc ups only
Hi all, I'm using Nut v2.7.3 on my Linux server to monitor two UPS at the same time, which are used to secure several different network devices. This set-up works fine for several month now. Due to the fact that different devices, connected to different UPS are generating a different load, the batteries of each UPS are discharged with a different speed. I now want to react on the events of
