Cannot change directory permissions
Hello, I occasionally need to remove the write permissions from directories inside a share to prevent users from accidentally deleting files inside that directory. My problem is that I neither can view nor can change the permissions of directories on my shares. Curiously enough viewing and changing permissions of files in the same shares works without a problem. Is there anything I

Hi, I got the same problem with Build 10162. I dont think it's an Samba issue. It seems that Windows 10 dont like "\\....\netlogon". Our Samba 3.5.6 PDC works like a charm for win 7. From my Win10 PC i can access everything except \\dc1\netlogon Symptoms: Accessing \\dc1\netlogon -> Auth fail Accessing \\dc1\netlogon2 -> Works (same config!!!) Accessing \\dc1\s1\netlogon

rsync transferring identical files
Hi all, I have set up a backup system which is syncing files between a linux based file server and a remote server on the internet. After doing an initial rsync with the following command: rsync -a --delete --numeric-ids --relative --delete-excluded -- exclude=*__software* --exclude=*.AppleDB* --exclude=*.DS_Store* -- exclude=*:2e* --exclude=*.AppleDesktop* --exclude=*.AppleDouble*

Samba4 bug - "mount error(5): Input/output error"
Hi Rowland, do you maybe have any idea what could potentially cause this bug? smbclient thrwos me back a mount error(5): Input/output error when I try to mount the remote smbFS. It doesn't happen with my MacOSx and Windows 7 as client but it happens with Linux OSs and with a Konica Minolta copy machine with a scanner to samba function. The first try to mount fails with the above error.

rsync deletes target files after source drive failure
Hi, I'm making backups using rsnapshot via cron jobs. Recently the source drive died. rsync wasn't able to read the source data and subsequently deleted the target directory. Here is part from the log: . . . /usr/bin/rsync -avi --delete --numeric-ids --relative --delete-excluded \ --stats --exclude-from=/redgum-backup/emiddel/rsync-excludes \ --rsh=/usr/bin/ssh xxx at yyy:/srcdir

Cannot change directory permissions
Hi Rowland, when saying 'I' I theoretically meant any user that has write access to the share. It should be possible to right click the directory in windows, the go to security tab and remove the write permissions on the directory. This behaviour already works with files, I'm trying to figure out how to make it also work for directories. Greetings, Felix -----Ursprüngliche

problems with telling rsync what to delete
Hi, I'm a system manager using rsync 2.6.3 to run backups. One of the main requirements is that the data is GPG encrypted before it is sent to the remote host (and stays encrypted there). As it is impossible to encrypt the entire system (which could be well over 10GB) I built a small script to determine which files were modified, unchanged and removed. It does this by generating an md5sum

After some time 4.3.9 Member Server in different Subnet than ADS controller loses trust
Hello everybody, I hope someone can help me with this or point me into the right direction since I am not being able to solve it since weeks. Since last year I was running Samba 4.1.6 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS without issues as a active directory domain controller as well as member servers. Trouble started with the upgrade to Samba 4.3.8 (now 4.3.9). The ADS controller and most member servers are

--delete not working - due to 200+G of files?
All of the rsync pages say that "rsync -a --delete src dest" will do a full mirror but it just isn't so for us. I've only found one Google item similar: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-software-2/rsync-doesnt-seem-to-delete-599985/ We have around 9200 directories in 250G in /home on a Sun 4500 with Solaris 8 and rsync 2.6.5 - which we are trying to mirror on Sun

--exclude and --delete-exclude problem
Hi. I'm trying to accomplish the following ; 1) First, I did a rsync for a file, like this /usr/bin/rsync -lptgoD --delete --rsh=/usr/bin/ssh -R --delete-excluded -vv root@127.0.0.1:/usr/local/src/* /tmp/localhost/daily.0 If I did a ls -la to the destination dir (/tmp/localhost/daily.0/usr/local/src/README) I take ls -la /tmp/localhost/daily.0/usr/local/src/ total 60 drwxrwsr-x 2 root

new option implemented: --delete-mdays
Hi folks, we would like your feedback on a new option we have implemented. We would like to know whether it should be merged into the CVS tree. Perhaps one of the rsync developers can have a look at the code, improve it where necessary, and committ it to CVS. The name of the option is "--delete-mdays=DAYS" and it works in conjunction with the option "--delete." It modifies
