R: extract data.frames from a list
Dear useRs and developeRs, I am struggling with a simple but not obviously solvable issue. Suppose I have the following list of data.frames called 'tmp': a <- data.frame(a=rnorm(10),b=letters[1:10]) (tmp <- list(a,a[1:4,],a[1:7,])) It is known that all data.frames in this list have the same number of columns (and this is a good thing). I want to build a bigger data.frame

'as.Date' conversion of classes POSIX*t (problem/feature)?
Hi, I'm working with objects of classes "Date","POSIXlt" and "POSIXct" and still having some Date/Time-related concepts unclear. In the documentation of "as.Date" one can find: "The 'as.Date' methods accept ... '"POSIXlt"' and '"POSIXct"'. (The last are converted to days by ignoring the time after

System-wide multiuser Wine installation
Hi. I was wondering if it is possible to do a Wine installation and installation of Windows applications where the applications are accessible to all users (or better yet, users in a certain group like "win32" or "wine")? I read in the most recent edition (March 18, 2005) of the Wine Weekly News that the global registry functionality had been removed. Is this necessary to have

multiuser sshd as non-root
Dear knowledgeable people, I'm running sshd 6.6.1p1 on RHEL 7.1. I've got a security requirement to run it as an ordinary user, let's say test-x, instead of root. It works well if I try to log in as test-x user with public key auth. Unfortunately I need sshd to serve other users as well. In order to let sshd switch uids I've set the CAP_SETUID and CAP_SETGID capabilities on

Installing R-2.6.2 on Windows multiuser
What is the proper way to install/configure R-2.6.2 for M$-Windows XPSP2 for multiple users when the other users don't have administrative rights. I don't remember this was a problem with previous versions of R. I installed R-2.6.2 as administrator on the computer. It installs, runs, and can manually update fine. The main user of this computer does not have administrator rights. Now,

Multiuser database application / file locks
Hi, I have an old dbase application. The application works well under wine. But if I use it with several users, the database is damaged. File locks do not work properly. If I start the application several time with one uid, the database is ok. Is there a way, to get proper file locks with wine? Thanks for any hints tilo

Multiuser attachment storage (mail_attachment_dir)
Was trying to set up attachment storage, but folders are receiving permission only for current user, so if another user is receiving a mail with same attachment he is getting permission denied error on reading hash file. Is it possible to setup global attachment storage to work with all users, at least in domain? mail_access_groups won't help, as folders are given 0 group permission. Umask and

Problem: enable multiuser wine
Hallo, folks, in openSuSE 12.1, I installed wine from the Wine CVS Builds repository. I knew it would work perfectly as of my experience on 11.4. In the end, it does! BUT I tried a different thing - it does run the programme, but only for one user! To get the programmes installed under WINE working for every user (one single laptop, different accounts), I tried the following recommendation

protecting multiuser systems from bruteforce ssh attacks
Hello, What is the best way to protect multiuser systems from brute force attacks? I am setting up a relatively loose DenyHosts policy, but I like the idea of locking an account for a time if too many attempts are made, but to balance this with keeping the user from making a helpdesk call. What are some policies/techniques that have worked for this list with minimal hassle? Thanks! -Eugene

MS Exchange to CentOs (multiuser)
Is there a way to get mail from a MS Exchange server that is addressed as user at host.domain.com rather than the user at domain.com so that users on host.domain.com can read their mail on that host (CentOS). (I'm assuming that Exchange needs to know about host.domain.com, somehow.) Frank M. Ramaekers Jr. Systems Programmer MCP, MCP+I, MCSE & RHCE American Income Life

Squirrel Mail (unknown date) in subject and zero size of messages shown
Hello, I'm having the following problems with a Squirrelmail and Dovecot. with option SERVER SIDE SORTING in Squirrel, only the first page with e-mails is shown in user's inbox, the mails in all the next pages are listed with subject: "(unknown date)" and size 0. : source R-script interactively outside R
DeaR list, let us assume we have stored a couple of functions in 'test.R'. Is it possible to run R CMD BATCH "test.R" or R --file="test.R" interactively and if yes how? A better formulated question sounds like this: how can I source "test.R" interactively OUTSIDE R? Another clarification try: I want to fix the "<my-command> in non-interactive

rxml vs rhtml
I have been wondering if anyone here knows which format is faster for your templates? I am curious cause in the near future I may be using some expensive scripts (timewise) and would like to try and squeak out as much performance as possible. Is Ruby like other languages (ASP classic for example) that inccur a penalty by switching between HTML and Ruby Code? Ben -- Posted via

Help Connecting server districts
I am working on a project to unite several local school districts. We will have 14 different districts, every district would have their own asterisk box on location. We all have fiber lines running to a central location at our isd. This provides connectivity to all the districts. 1. would it be wiser to install a asterisk box at the central location of the ISD and have all asterisk boxes

= vs. ==?
Hi Could anyone please explain to me the difference between the = and the ==? I'm quite new to R and I've tried to find out but didn't get any wiser... Continuation and parse
Hi gurus, After an unsuccessful scrabble through the documentation and Jon's excellent search facility, I am no wiser as to how R recognizes an incomplete command line and politely raises its hand for more. The help page for parse gives no indication that it does anything more than spit the dummy when fed an incomplete command line, but something in there must recognize such ellipsis.
