Can I do this in a template..?
Hi all,
I have a situation where I want to use the same template to create
two different files in two different classes. I''ve tried to lookup
some information on what is possible with templates, how advanced you
can get, but haven''t found much. I guess it''s one of the areas where
I should contribute to the docs - once I figured out what I can do,
that is...

--keep-dirlinks --delete erroneously deletes symlinks to directories
Hi,
the combination of --keep-dirlinks and --delete (--delete-during,
--delete-delay) erroneously deletes symlinks to directories on
the receiver.
With --delete-before and --delete-after it works as expected.
(rsync version 3.0.3 protocol version, on Debian Lenny)
I don't think that this behaviour is intended.
Details/example:

creating a callinst to an external function
Dear All
I'm making an instrumentation pass. The pass is supposed to modify the given IR in a specefic way. One of the required modifications is to insert a call to a function at a specific location.
This is the signature of the called function:
void myclass::foo(Function *f, BasicBlock* b)
This function's prototype is in an foofile.h file in include/llvm
And the function

Scripting call to R-Studio compile PDF
Hey everyone,
I have several RStudio (.rnw) files that I am using a script to assemble
into a composite document. For this purpose, it would be helpful if the
script could automatcially make a call to whatever is called when a user
opens up one of these files and manually clicks "Compile PDF". Basically,
this would allow me to refresh all of the reports before assimilating their

Potential incompatibilities between '--delete' and --copy-unsafe-symlinks' ???
Hi,
New to this list, but long-time (appreciative) user of rsync.
Grateful for any help with my problem here...
In particular, I've been having long-standing issues (just now getting
around to trying to resolve them) when I use rsync with
'--copy-unsafe-links' alongside the '--delete' parameter. If I use
either of these two parameters in isolation (along with other shared

EC2 with puppet bootstrap notes and scripts
Hello...
I wanted to be able to startup an EC2 instance with one command and
have a fully functioning server without having to shell into each new
instance and configure the bits to allow puppet to finish the
configuration. Here are some notes I came up with for bootstrapping an
ec2 instance with puppet using Ubuntu 10.04. I left out a lot of things
about creating and running custom AIM

Assistance With "Symlink Has No Referent" Message
Hi All,
I am using rsync to backup one server to another. I am connecting to the
rsync daemon on the remote server and pulling to the backup server. When
using SSH this error does not occur, but there are reasons why I have to
use rsync directly.
The problem I am having is that some of the symlinks on the remote
machine will not copy. I am attempting to copy their referent by using

Are your symlinks identified as symlinks on Samba/SMB shares?
Hi,
I would appreciate someone testing if their system can recognize symlinks (as below) on their SMB share. My Mac and Windows machines can NOT recognize symlinks on my NAS's SMB share, they just identify symlinks as real files and folders.
Why is this an issue? Because when I try to copy parts of these backups from the NAS it just loops back on itself forever.
Eg:

rsyncd.conf chroot yes problem with symlink-ing
Hy there,
My name is Alex Vladulescu, and i found this very
interesting tool for backup files and folders over remote network
servers.
For the past four days i have been reading the FAQ on the site,
google-ing the web for some answers on my local problem, but i am very
stuck, nothing seems to answer my question so far.
My issue consists on
having a rsyncd.conf on a master server on which i

rsync'ing a directory with nothing but symlinks
Hi all. This looks like a common question. I want to backup a dir, in
which i put some symlinks, so it looks like

drwxrwxrwt 19 root root 4096 2010-02-17 17:30 ..

How to circumvent "Symlink has no referent"?
Hi,
in my backup script I'm using the "-L" option to transform symlinks into referent files/dirs. Now I'm also using the "--delete" option.
Unfortunately "--delete" doesnt work if an error like "Symlink has no referent" occurs. So far the only solution for that seems to not
use the "-L" option or to add "--ignore-errors". It

Prevent dereferenced path of symlinked directories from printing on client side log output
I'm trying to figure out if there is some way to run an rsync daemon
which makes a mix of "real" and symlinked folders available to a client
such that all the folders appear as "real" to the client.
I realize the --copy-links and --copy-dirlinks accomplish this when
invoked from the client side (and that is currently how I am
accomplishing this). Is there any way to

Shared mailboxes (maildir, symlinks) and permissions
Hello list,
I am trying to set up a public mailbox for users to put spam in so that
sa-learn can do its job at night. Only I can't seem to fully understand how
and which permissions should be set. I've read [1] and am using Dovecot
1.0.1.
First some background information: I do not host or care (at the moment) about
virtual users or virtual mail hosting. All users have Unix system

Symlinks out of sharing still not working on 3.0.5
Hi guys,
samba client version 3.0.5, server version 3.0.5, kernel 2.4.26.
Relevant configs on server:
unix extensions = Yes
wide links = Yes
follow symlinks = Yes
On client computer with home user mounted via smbfs
I'm trying this:
D102-054 [/lp/home/dito/tmp] > cd /tmp
D102-054 [/tmp] > mkdir dest_dir
D102-054 [/tmp] > cd -

Output of --list-only not as I expected for symlinks
Thank you. But I'm afraid I don't understand. The man entry reads:
"--list-only
This option will cause the source files to be listed instead of
transferred. This option is inferred if there is a single source arg and
no destination specified..."
It doesn't say anything about "list remote files". In fact I am not sure
why it would even contact the remote

Output of --list-only not as I expected for symlinks
My apologies. I'm evidently not communicating very well.
I am not asking for a list of what "needs to be transferred", I am
looking for a list of those things that are "candidates to transfer". In
other words, the source items minus exclusions/filters or anything else
that will be ignored (by rsync).
Is there any option for rsync that offers such a list?

Funny issue with chroot + symlink outside chroot
Hi,
The problem I found is not in what rsync, but on the error handling:
How to reproduce:
On server side I setup a tree and share using rsync + xinetd, of course, for
security reason I use chroot option.
Now I push this symlink:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4 nov 10 16:28 horsroot -> /bin/
Now I try to do:
./rsync -avPH --copy-unsafe-links draco::test/ /tmp/rsyncdest/
(Of course the
