Asterisk SIP attacks and sshguard
Hello,
We had been seeing SIP-guessing attacks on our Asterisk server here.
While it wasn't that hard to write a once-a-minute cron job to spank
the lusers, that runs once a minute and creates little spikes in the
usage and I/O graphs, and is slower to respond than I'd really prefer.
I felt that it'd be much cooler to get something more comprehensive
put together. We don't use

Issue when calling deparse(substitute(x)) from C with "anonymous" R vectors ?
Dear list,
When calling R from C, what appears like a spurious error can be
triggered during the execution of chisq.test(x, y).
This is happening when the following conditions are met:
- x and y are "anonymous" C-level R vectors (they do not have a symbol),
but they are protected from garbage collection
- x and y are "not too small" (it was experienced as soon as they are

Feature Request - Load Throttling
If you aleady are doing this - then thanks. But here's a feature I'd
like to see.
Rsync often puts a lot of load on the system because of high disk
access. I'd like to see rsync become "load aware" and to slow itself
down under high load levels. Seems to me that it could be something
fairly easy to add to have it check the load levels and back down so as
not to slow

rsync and many files
Hello together,
I have a question about using rsync with many files.
We are using rsync via rsnapshot, but this is not elementary. It is used to backup many (above 100 servers) and works very well. Now there is one server with many (several millions) files. The files are not very big, so the complete backup is about 500 GB.
Now my problem is, that the backup needs about 14 hours - the most time

looking for Windows rsync without cygwin
wondering if anyone has built a native port yet. It looks like I may have to go
through eliminate delta copy from a half a dozen machines because of transfer
lockups. Conversation on the rsnapshot list indicates that using cygwin may be
the source of my problems.
"""Yes, there's a well-known Cygwin hang bug that rsync seems to hit
especially often. IIRC, the problem is that

Is -R --link-dest really hard to use, or is it me?
I've got a problem for which the combination of -R and --link-dest
doesn't seem to be quite enough---and I may have discovered a few
small bugs as well; test cases are below.
[And if someone has a scheme for doing this that doesn't involve rsync
at all, but works okay, I'm all ears as well---I'm not the first with
this problem.]
Here's my problem: I unfortunately need to

well, now that I have moved to dovecot, I'm not getting any spam... in fact, I'm
not getting e-mail at all.

oslec + dahdi
Hi list, I install dahdi-linux successfully with the module of oslec
for the echo, but when I specify it in the system.conf the echo
canceller oslec it shows me errors:
DAHDI_ATTACH_ECHOCAN failed on channel 4: Invalid argument (22)
I see that the echo cancellers is supported: mg2, kb1, sec2, and sec
because oslec is not supported?, but he has support to compile it with
dahdi_linux!

HPEC performance
Does this make a significant improvement? The box in question I was going to
try this with has a 4 port TDM card w/ plenty of horsepower, but I do intend
to later migrate to a Soekris unit running Astlinux and therefore might not have
the power to run it after. If the difference is significant, I may move to an ITX
board so I could use a bigger CPU, but only if the hassle is worthwhile.

once I managed to pride out of its cold dead fingers the essential tiny
bit of documentation I needed. But I'm having a problem with my nested
directories. I have a directory called incoming sort my incoming mail.
The conversion utility created a bunch of files called incoming.<stuff>

for a variety of reasons, I decided to cut over to dovecot this morning. I
extracted all of my mailboxes from mbx purgatory back to mbox purgatory, set up
dovecot and proceed to get authentication failures. (am using simple password
based authentication either direct or through pam)
I turned authentication verbosity on and got:

How to change Rlapack by lapack (for rpy2 installation)?
(I asked an earlier question on the rpy2 installation
to the rpy2 list, the solution there was to
edit the setup.py script, but this looks beyond what I can do unless
someone tells me exactly what to modify).
I have R 2.8.1 on 2 machines running ubuntu 8.04
(packages R-base and R-base-dev, among others, installed using Synaptic)
and while the installation

observations about delays
I've tried two imap clients (mahogany and Mozilla) and they both have strange
delays and weird failures. As a reminder, I am using mbox format mailboxes on
the server and client side filtering of messages from the inbox.
In both cases when the client fetches messages from the inbox and starts
redistributing them, CPU utilization on the imap server goes to around 40
percent for Mozilla

bwlimit=
Wayne replied to my original note which said that in a special situation that I was using to probe rsync to build a behavioral model that bwlimit= resulted in bimodal behavior around a 4000 kbyte/sec value.
He responded with a patch that I have tested in a limited way. I have a push scenario from a local site to a remote site. I use a file that is 6.3 Megabyte in size whose checksums (when

direct IO, IO throttling
Hi there,
I've been googling around and yet could not find if there's a decent
solution to avoid OS cache while copying files with rsync. It would be
good if that worked both on client and on server side.
If not some rsync patches (or features in upcoming releases), maybe
you know of some library that could be ld_preload'ed to do this?
Another thing I'm looking for is a way to

trouble with setting individual quota values for multiple namespaces
Hello all
please apologize that I repost this problem again. I tried to get some
help several times on the list but did not find/get a solution.
I am still struggling to setup different quotas for namespaces.
In addition to the default "INBOX" namespace I have created a namespace
called "MailArchive" which should have its own quota value of 5G per user.

[fdo] Freedesktop sdk aka 'tiny base runtime' project
Hi all,
So i wanted to kick off this mailing list by trying to round up a few
things which have been discussed recently, at GUADEC, in f2f
conversations afterwards, or shot over emails between a few people. It's
been discussed for a while that we want to create a tiny base runtime
with bst. The upshot is this will homogenize the metadata used in the
build process for Flatpak, GNOME
