Can't get resolution higher than 1280x1024 - Centos 5
Hello all, I can't get higher than 1280x1024 resolution (60hz, 24 depth). I'm running Centos 5 x86 64bit on AMD Athlon64 x2 4600, Geforce 6200 PCI express. Even as root, that is the highest I can set the display. I am guessin the kernel does not support my combo? I've also tried Nvidia's driver from their site, this is what I get: # more nvidia-installer.log nvidia-installer

zpool upgrade wrecked GRUB
Machine is running x86 snv_94 after recent upgrade from opensolaris 2008.05. ZFS and zpool reported no troubles except suggesting upgrade for from ver.10 to ver.11. seemed like a good idea at the time. system up for several days after that point then took down for some unrelated maintenance. now will not boot the opensol, drops to grub prompt, no menus. zfs was mirrored on two disks c6d0s0 and

Initialising a mirror
Dears, I would like to mirror data from 2 servers connected together via VPN over ADSL lines (dwn 2Mbps/Upld 512Kbps). I'm sure rsync is one of the best tool to keep these data in sync but how should I use it to initialise the mirror? I'm currently testing the solution with 10Gb of data to keep in sync. But on my lines it would take more than 40 hours to initially create the

Difference between rsync -r S1 S2 T and cp -r S1 S2 T
The manual says rsync can be used as an improved cp command. If S1 and S2 are (local) source files or directories and T is an (local) existing directory, is it safe to think that $ rsync -r S1 S2 T does the same thing as $ cp -r S1 S2 T , assuming no trailing slashes in S1, S2? -- View this message in context:

Running 'rsync' as root misses files
Hi all, I was wondering, I run (inside another program) 'rsync' as 'root' using '--files-from'. It seems to error though on files with permissions where 'everyone' does not have read permissions (ie: permissions of '0640'). Is this the normal behaviour for 'rsync' could I be missing something? Thanks!

owner and group
Hello, I am trying to copy, on the same server, a set of files. I need to copy them every day with a cron job. This is working fine the only problem is that he always changes the owner and group to the root user. Is there a possibility that he uses the user of the remote files and not the root user ? rsync --archive --exclude ".htaccess" /home/virtual/site5/fst/var/www/ html/

ignoring file times - but still examining content
Hello. I would like to transfer files which have changed on another box. The rsync man page says: --size-only ..This is useful when starting to use rsync after using another mirroring system which may not preserve timestamps exactly.. Which is my situation. My problem is that the size-only switch (clearly) ignores files with different content, but that have the same size. I'd like to

Preparing to compare Solaris/ZFS and FreeBSD/ZFS performance.
Hi. I''m all set for doing performance comparsion between Solaris/ZFS and FreeBSD/ZFS. I spend last few weeks on FreeBSD/ZFS optimizations and I think I''m ready. The machine is 1xQuad-core DELL PowerEdge 1950, 2GB RAM, 15 x 74GB-FC-10K accesses via 2x2Gbit FC links. Unfortunately the links to disks are the bottleneck, so I''m going to use not more than 4 disks, probably.

ZFS panic while mounting lofi device?
I believe ZFS is causing a panic whenever I attempt to mount an iso image (SXCR build 39) that happens to reside on a ZFS file system. The problem is 100% reproducible. I''m quite new to OpenSolaris, so I may be incorrect in saying it''s ZFS'' fault. Also, let me know if you need any additional information or debug output to help diagnose things.
