drb problem? ringy-dingy won't answer...
The following code works fine as long as I don''t try to run it through
the distributed server. It doesn''t get there...
It runs fine out of delayed_job, runs fine if called directly.
But if ''distrib'' is true (the default) it runs right up to the call to
the server and right past it without getting to the server or raising
any errors.

files deleted without --delete option
Hello all,
I want to copy all files on the SRC side to the DST side without deleteing
any from the DST side. However, whenever I run rsync the files on the DST
side are deleted if they were deleted from the SRC side. What am I doing

I am running the following command:

rsyncd 2.4.6 on RedHat 7.2
Hi,
I've having some difficulty using rsync from a client to a rsyncd Server (RedHat 7.2). Although the same command works fine on the server. I can view the list from client using - rsync i1::
Using the following cmd to connect from client (i2) to rsyncd server (i1):
rsync -trlvz i1::i1-test /home/test
/var/log/message file on i1 shows the following error:

rsyncd server daemon not allowing connections
Gang, I've read the manual(s), surfed google, spent about 5 hours on this,
to no avail....
I'm trying to run rsync in server mode and it appears to start normally,
but it refuses all connections (refuses connection when I tried telnetting
in on localhost 873!).
I've turned off all firewalls on this server (do I dare tell you guys
that?...), which is fine: it is on a local network.

Rsyncd log file permission
Hi I am wondering if there is any way to change the file permission of
"rsync.log" and "rsyncd.lock" via rsyncd.conf. Most likely the "lock"
file is not possible, but maybe the other file is possible.
The reason I am asking is because if I UserA runs rsync, then UserB
won't be able to write to rsync.log file since its owned by UserA and
readable only to UserB.

As far as a backup provider goes I wouldn't expect them to use rsync
over SSL unless that were built into rsync in the future (and has been
around long enough that most users would have it).
I would expect them to either use rsync over ssh secured by rrsync or
rsyncd over ssh with them managing the rsyncd.conf file. Either way

Hello,
Rsync is working great for me right now, using version 2.6.5 on two
Solaris 9 V100 servers. Box A is the source and box B is the destination,
and also box B is my rsync server box. Box A is a rsync client. Yesterdar
from Box B I pulled 250 meg just fine from box A with rsync.
Today from the client I want to just copy over to the server what files
have changed today.
So my command

hello,
I get some error messages when using BackupPC with rsyncd-style backup:

RSYNC not finding rsyncd.conf
I am running rsync version 2.6.4 protocol version 29 on HPUX 11.11. The same version of rsync is being used on both the source and destination sides. I am running rsync across an SSH connection. The remote rsync process does not seem to be locating, or even attempting to locate an rsyncd.conf file, in either /etc/rsyncd.conf or the cwd/pwd of the rsync process.
On the client side I am running

migrating samba 2.2.8a PDC to 3.0.12 SID problem
hi, i'm trying to migrate my samba 2.2.8a pdc to 3.0.12 pdc. I'm using
ldap and i have already migrated all the data. Also i have executed
convertSambaAccount for the new schema.
My problem is that I cannot set the old SID (samba 2.2.8) to the new
samba 3.0.12 for that the clients can authentificate to pdc server.

Hi,
I have installed rsync on CentOS4, Installation went through ok and I
tested it as well by copying a folder to mounted tap backup drive.
But now I need to run rsync as daemon(server), trying to find

rsyncd.conf without --daemon?
Hello all,
I'm not a total newbie, but probably close enough. I have tried to
find the answer to this question, but have been unsuccessful.
I'm testing out rsync over ssh using empty passphrases between 2
OpenBSD 3.5 boxes using rsync 2.5.7 (yes i know i should upgrade, but
can't because of BSD ports issues).
Everything seems to be working, but I'm very confused as to why it is

[Bug 11013] New: [patch] Mention that privileges are dropped, when "use chroot" is enabled in rsyncd.conf manpage
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Only root can chown. If rsync isn't running as root then it ignores
the --owner part of --archive. This also makes --numeric-ids inert.
Simply put, if you aren't running as root then you can only create
files owned by your UID. Rsync knows this. Rsync assumes that if you
aren't root you didn't intend the --owner (or --group) part

Conflicting timestamps in rsyncd.log
Hi list,
I just setup my first rsyncd server and all is working well as far as
file syncing goes. However, I am a bit baffled by the fact that some of
the log entries in the rsyncd.log file are entered in local time and
other are entered in GMT. Here is a sample:
