Using Access Control Lists with SMB2/SMB3 Mounts on Linux Clients
Hi Jeremy, Hi Steve, Hi Ronnie,
thanks for your replies and the profound discussion.
I think, it's best to demonstrate my problem case along an real world example:
The following log of a console sesssion shows how I am doing the mounts on behalf Linux Kernel CIFS-FS Module on the
client side against a Samba 4.5 file server (both running on Debian Stretch 9.8) via SMB/CIFS resp. SMB2 protocol:

Domain Member Server: Domain Users cannot access shares
Hi Rowland,

issue resolved, or at least determine that there is nothing wrong with my

of us know why.

idmap_ad and RFC2370 (inconsistent results)
Hi everyone.
I'm encountering problems with the management of the id of the users,
in the DC and in the domain members (RFC2370).
I'm using Samba Version 4.2.10-Debian on Debian8.5.
This is the DC configuration / result.

Using Access Control Lists with SMB2/SMB3 Mounts on Linux Clients
Could you see if anything useful in the logs indicating why the ACL
was not returned? Instructions are at:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/LinuxCIFS_troubleshooting#Enabling_Debugging
(it is easier for newer kernels due to dynamic tracing e.g. "trace-cmd
record -e cifs" but even with these older kernels it should be enough
information in the dmesg logs - if not a wireshark trace

Domain Member Server: Domain Users cannot access shares
Re: zfs...
The odd thing is... It's not mdadm that's acting up, at least not in my
opinion, as I have had two other domain member servers at other locations
that host shares on filesystems that are raid arrays built with mdadm. The
only difference between those boxes and this one is the LSI MegaRaid
controller. Now I'm no expert when it comes to this controller, the box
shipped with

AWS AD Connector and Samba4
Hi,
we want to access our Amazon/AWS Console using users from our internal samba4 directory service. So we tried to connect to our samba4 via the AWS AD Connector.
Connection (bind) is ok, but no users/groups are found. Via tcpdump/wireshark we found this query/answer pair:

Possible bug in authentication cache in dovecot 1.1.alpha4
Hello,
it seems that there is some bug in authentication cache code in dovecot
version 1.1.alpha4 - after login attempt with wrong password the correct
password also will fail.
I can reproduce it very easy:
$telnet 10.10.10.30 110
+OK Server. <861.2.46e6c679.jZ8QYpFmU8ZN6XIq7zPhkw==@server2>
user testuser
+OK
pass pass
+OK Logged in.
quit
+OK Logging out.
Connection closed by foreign host.

Home-Shares are not writeable
Hello everyone!
After running Samba on several machines for some years, I just came
accross a rather strange problem. The short story is that the special
user home shares are readable, but not writeable.
Here's the long story: The system is a freshly set-up Debian Squeeze,
right out of the box. This is the Samba config:

Winbindd and SSH (just disconnects after login)
It looks like I've gotten the majority of things working in regards to
Winbind. Users are being authenticated by the NT4 PDC when connecting to
shares, but I can't seem to get things set up correctly to allow logging in
via SSH(OpenSSH_3.6.1p2, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0x0090702f). It
appears as though I'm successfully authenticated by the PDC, but then the
connection is

delete of stat xattr failed
Hello all,
For quite some time now i've been seeing this error during my nightly
backups (though i've simply ignored it until now :P ) :
rsync: delete of stat xattr failed for "<FILE>": Operation not
permitted (1)
Where <FILE> is, of course, any one of a number of items.
Both machines are running "rsync version 3.0.2 protocol version 30".

Dovecot and the Maildir path
System basics
??? Centos 7.3
??? Dovecot 2.2.32 (dfbe293d4)
I am working on a replacement mail server for work and one of the features I wanted was ldap authentication
After much fiddling I got it to work.
But I encountered a issue where two different methods of testing a mail account resulted in the
mail_location being different
I set? mail_location = maildir:/var/spool/maildir/%d/%n/Maildir

Moving messages between servers with different configurations
Hi Martin,
I feel a bit like an idiot, but I have been trying with copy, so I do
not lose any message when testing. But I can't get them to copy. I do
indeed have same uid and gid.
[@~]# doveadm mailbox status -S 192.168.10.43:542 -u testuser -t
messages test
messages=43
[@~]# doveadm mailbox status -u testuser -t messages INBOX/test2

Make a share owned by a service account available to members of an AD group
The only way it seems to work is if I do have both the local and AD user with the same name. But my goal here is to not require that, to have the AD account only.
I have applied Unix attributes to the users. testuser uidNumber = 30089 and gidNumber = 100. However, when I try to query with wbinfo, I was unable to look that up:
wbinfo -i "DEVELOPMENT\testuser"

complete newbie sid problems
Hi,
I'm trying to set up samba with ldap authorization on a windows network.
I have samba running on one linux host, and openldap on another. I have
used smbldap-tools to populate my directory and used smbldap-useradd to
create an initial testuser on the samba host. I can ssh in to the samba
host as the testuser ok, and get in to the testuser directory (ie. there

Samba 3.5.6 pam problems
Hi,
I've setup Samba 3.5.6 as a member server in a 2003R2 domain with a
single dc, idmapping is by rfc2307 with a tdb backend for builtin
accounts etc, I can list users and groups using wbinfo and I can
create shares and access them from the windows server, files and
folders owned by ad users show the correct user and group names so
mapping appears to be working, I can su to ad accounts but I

restore deleted user (ldbrename) on samba 4.9.1 fails
Dear list,
I am trying to restore an deleted user object with samba 4.9.1 (sernet
packages). I am aware that the object will lose some attributes without
recycle bin enabled (enabling it is still not recommended, right?)
I tried to rename the object in order to make the necessary
modifications afterward (as documented in Stefan Kania's Samba 4 book).
But ldbrename already fails.

Moving messages between servers with different configurations
This pulls over the whole test mailbox, but I need it to be stored in a
different mailbox, of course that is now possible to move from the local
test to the local INBOX/test2. But then I might aswell scp the mbox in
the first place.
Should we conclude that it is not possible with a single doveadm command
to move messages from RemoteServerA/usertest/mailboxA/messagesof2017 to
