v3.0.4 and OSXS - Exit code: 1
Hello,
I used Lingon for Leopard Server to create a launchd job that would
execute the following rsync (v3.0.4) command when logged in as admin at
12:01 AM each day.
sudo rsync -aAHvWX /Volumes/File_Storage/docs/
/Volumes/File_Storage_Mirror/docs
When launchd executed this command, it did not work. The system.log
file reads "Exited with exit code: 1". It called it at 12:01 AM,

file permissions head-ache on Samba V3.0.4
Hi,
I hope that this is a quick answer, as it's probably
been answered many times before and I'm just missing a
very minor setting in my config.
I have just setup a samba server(ver 3.0.4) on a
Redhat Enterprise Linux Box ES3. The box has been
setup as a member of a Windows NT4 domain, it's to be
used as a fileserver for users on the NT domain.
I have configured samba to use domain

Mounting Samba Share using linux login
Windows users are able to mount samba share using windows. But for
linux user, we need to create credentials file, to mount samba share
e.g:
//servername/file_store /home/user/Desktop/file_storage smbfs
credentials=/root/.smbcredentials
Is it possbile to change the credentials to something like windows
users (for example credentials=unix user) so as the mounted share
would depend on who login

Where to download the rsync binaries for Windows but NOT the cwrsync version?
When I go to page
http://rsync.samba.org/download.html
then there is no download of the windows binaries except the cwRsync version.
However there must be such a pure-rsync binary version for Windows because I have already an old, outdated rsync.exe v3.0.4
So is there elsewhere a download site for the newest rsync for windows?

Fwd: rsync 3.0.9 partial file left after CTRL-C WITHOUT using --partial

Software RAID complete drives or individual partitions
I have been reading about software raid. I configured my first software raid system about a month ago.
I have 4 500 Gig drives configured in RAID 5 configuration with a total of 1.5TB.
Currently I configured the complete individual drivers as software raid, then created a /dev/md0 with the drives
I then created a /file_storage partition on /dev/md0.
I created my /boot / and swap partitions on

Error messages 3.0.6pre1
I compiled 3.0.6pre1, including the crtimes and fileflags patches for
use on Intel OS X 10.5.6, as described by Mr. Bombich (thanks!) here:
<http://www.bombich.com/mactips/rsync.html>
I want to use 3.0.6 because it seems that this bug:
<https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5365>
has been resolved (yay!).

Capistrano and Uploaded Documents
I have an application I''m working on which allows me to upload files. The
files are stored somewhere in the public directory so that they can be
accessed directly. When I deploy an update with Capistrano, I ''lose'' the
files because of the current symlink points to the new checked out version.
Before I start working on a solution, has anyone else already solved this

invalid uid os x
I have a strange problem on OS X server. I start the rsync daemon manually using
su
rsync --daemon
(or sudo rsync --daemon)
and it works for a while. But eventually, when people try to connect, they get an "invalid uid" error. The uid is the once specified in the profile in rsyncd.conf .
If I kill the daemon process (kill -9) then restart it, it all works again.
Anyone else run

Macintosh rsync: Inconsistent Behaviour: Hints Appreciated
I have a problem with rsync on macintosh copying files that have not been
updated. Despite careful reading of the archives, I can't find an
explanation (or a fix), but I strongly suspect I'm just missing something
that an expert will recognise instantly... Your assistance would be greatly
appreciated.
I'm running a nightly backup of my photo/home video directory from a

Samba 3 and mounting NT share on Linux box
Hello everyone,
I used to be able to mount an MS NT4 DOMAIN share from a machine
running RedHat 9 (Samba v2.2.7a), but after upgrading to WHEL (also
tried with SuSE 9.1/kernel 2.6.x running Samba 3 and it appears to have
the same problem) (Samba v3.0.4) my samba mount script will no longer
work. It successfully mounts the share but I get permission denied
errors when attempting to ls -l ,

pre-exec fails in windows
Hi,
I want to disable windows suspend before starting backup by rsync.
My rsyncd.conf:

max connections = 6
log file = /var/log/backup-service.log
read only = false
write only = false
transfer logging = no
list = false
max verbosity = 6
pre-xfer exec = powercfg /H off

path = /cygdrive/c/

path = /cygdrive/d/

Unfortunately that didn't work.

Chasing the "ads_add_machine_acct: Insufficient access" problem
Okay, the jist of this whole thing, I get this infamous (?) problem, I
have been trying to search though the archives of samba-general on gmane
and also in my archive of this list. I have only seen requests for the
magical answer.
Environment: W2K/W2K3 mixed ADS going Native ADS only soon. Samba 3.0.4
compiled from source on a RHEL AS30 machine. MIT Kerberos v1.3.4 also
compiled from source.

supporting HFS+ attributes and forks on a Linux rsync server?
I'm trying to use rsync to back up a Mac OS X machine to a Linux server.
I've used the instructions at http://www.bombich.com/mactips/rsync.html
to patch and install rsync 3.0.2 to support HFS+ attributes and forks on
the client. I was assuming the Linux box needed the same version, and so
tried compiling the patched rsync but got the following:
