Another cygwin/rsync question
Hi, Been using rsync for many years but I'm stuck with this problem. I'ts a simplistic backup using rsync from a Windows 2k3 machine to a Linux box out on the 'net, using pre-shared ssh keys. In this case I'm saving, files belonging to various users, using the administrator account on the windows machine and the destination is a normal user account and its home file area.

Cannot change directory permissions
Hi Rowland, sorry, I hit the wrong reply button in the last answer. So there is no other way than to use Windows ACLs? I was told with our old systems (Samba 3 in non-domain mode) the behaviour I want to achieve was possible when only using ugo. Greetings, Felix -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: samba [mailto:samba-bounces at lists.samba.org] Im Auftrag von Rowland Penny Gesendet:

rsync from Windows to Linux
Hello all, I am having a problem rsyncing from windows to linux, or rather, keeping the file permissions the way I want them. My project is basically to keep two identical directories, one in Windows and one in Linux, mirrored, but they must retain their user and group permissions. what rsync commands can I use to ensure that the windows permissions do not get copied over to linux? I have tried

Cannot change directory permissions
Hi Rowland, yes I do have two separate config files for smbd/nmbd and winbindd. You can tell winbindd to load a separate config file via the "-s" command line switch. Therefore I set "WINBINDD_EXTRA_OPTS" in "/etc/default/sernet-samba" to "-s /etc/samba/winbindd.conf". The "cached_login" option for pam is also set and working. The problem was

speedup remains 1
Hi List, I'm observing a strange problem on 2.6.9 (no opportunity to upgrade on both ends yet). Receiver is linux, sender is cygwin. I transferred a 6GB file (an MS SQL .bak file) physically from one site to the other, in order to get the first "backup" done. In the meantime, the sender generated a new file, which I know for a fact to be very similar to the manually transferred

Ruby and charting
Hi- I need to create simple charts on the fly - I had used JFreeChart in the past with inJ2EE apps. Is there any equivalent here for Ruby. My charting needs are simple: just line charts. Also if anyone has done this, pls let me know how I should go about in doing it. Thanks -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

hosting library (ie. PVCS) on Samba
Hello. I believe that I've done my due diligence in researching what info. is currently available on this issue. I have been jacking with this for days, & believe that I have tried all possible solutions. I am basically trying to move a [Merant] PVCS installation from an OS/2 file server to a SuSE/Samba file server. This installation consists of 'standard' source archives,

RAID1: Changing / partition from 2 to 4 active devices
Hi, I have 4 disks and I want to have my swap, / (root), /boot on the 4 disks, RAID1. I successfully managed to get /boot and swap on the 4 disks, but I can't get / on the 4 disks. It is only on 2 right now. I cannot umount /, so how do I do that? Boot in rescue mode? RAID 5 is not an option for now. -- Ugo -> Please don't send a copy of your reply by e-mail. I read the list.

Default password hash
We still have MD5 as our default password hash, even though known-hash attacks against MD5 are relatively easy these days. We've supported SHA256 and SHA512 for many years now, so how about making SHA512 the default instead of MD5, like on most Linux distributions?
