why does rsync translate user@host into '$RSYNC_RSH -l user host'?
Why does rsync believe it knows more about the use of the token to the left of the colon than the program which will be used as the remote connection? I have a script called sshto with accepts targets like this: host1!host2!host3 and constructs the requisite ssh ProxyCommand options to do a multihop ssh to host3 to run a command. Very useful if connecting to firewalled nonroutable hosts or to

[PATCH 1/2] mllib: hostname: replace the hostname on Debian also in /etc/hosts (RHBZ#953907).
In Debian/Ubuntu systems, read the previous hostname from /etc/hostname before replacing it, and try to carefully replace it in /etc/hosts with the new hostname. Since Perl_edit to edit /etc/hosts, it is added/changed as dependency for Hostname. --- builder/Makefile.am | 2 +- mllib/Makefile.am | 2 +- mllib/hostname.ml | 22 ++++++++++++++++++++++ sysprep/Makefile.am | 1 + 4 files

Duplicated (but only for unread) messages after second rsync pass...
Ok, I know I should probably be using dsync for this, but I'm more familiar with rsync, and didn't think this would be a problem. Here is what I am doing, and what is apparently happening (only done this once, but I'm guessing it will happen each time): rsync -avHP /mnt/vmail/example.com/user1/ /var/vmail/example.com/user1/ chown -R vmail:vmail /var/vmail/example.com Ok, so far

[PATCH 0/2] customize: Fix hostname setting in Debian/Ubuntu.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1372269 It was fairly broken. This fixes it -- except on Ubuntu 10.04 -- and adds a slow test. Rich.

randomForest question--problem with ntree
Hi, I would like to use a random Forest model to get an idea about which variables from a dataset may have some prognostic significance in a smallish study. The default for the number of trees seems to be 500. I tried changing the default to ntree=2000 or ntree=200 and the results appear identical. Have changed mtry from mtry=5 to mtry=6 successfully. Have seen same problem on both a Windows

CentOS 6: hostname and timezone
Hello, I've purchased a new dedicated CentOS 6.0 / 64 bit server and have 2 minor problems please: 1) The "hostname" is reported as CentOS-60-64-minimal at CLI - eventhough I've edited /etc/hosts and changed the 2nd line: 127.0.0.1 localhost 176.9.123.123 preferans 2) Why is /etc/localtime a regular file? Should I maybe rm /etc/localtime ln -s

Some more questions
Ok, some more question as I'm still planning our SDS (but I'm prone to use LizardFS, gluster is too inflexible) Let's assume a replica 3: 1) currently, is not possbile to add a single server and rebalance like any order SDS (Ceph, Lizard, Moose, DRBD, ....), right ? In replica 3, I have to add 3 new servers 2) The same should be by add disks on spare slots on existing servers.

NT domain computer account
Hi list, Curiosity killed the cat, but... I've been reading samba sources and I can't quite figure out what 'features' of UNIX account is required for 'workstation account' (as in NT domain). The furthest I coud get to pin-point the requirements, is the pdbedit source (source/utils/pdbedit.c), where we have two functions: 1) new_used(*context, *name, *full_name, *home,

Updating/Backing Up Server
I am slowly migrating the data etc off an old CentOS32 4.x server to a new CentOS64 5.x server. The old server only has 15Gbyte of its hard drive in use. Is there an easy/safe way to copy the entire contents of old server root directory to a directory on the new server for future reference? Most of the data is various test files, perl scripts, etc. scattered all over.
