can rsync scan files only with mtime since T?
Hi
I have a file system that contains millions of small files. Since I
backup it everyday with rsync using slow WAN link, I think it will be
nice that if rsync can do this:
An option that let rsync only check with remote rsync daemon about local
files that has last modification time newer than one day ago (so is
modified since yesterday backup). This can greatly reduce the WAN
traffic.
Is this

High Speed WAN Rsync now possible!!!
Folks-
Just wanted to plug a totally awesome software package from a group I
know: UDR (UDT Enabled Rsync).
For those not familiar with UDT, it is a low level network protocol
based on UDP that allows for high speed transfers over high latency WAN
networks:

For a while the UDT API was available, developed by the Laboratory for
Advanced Computing at the

rsync to iSCSI over WAN
I am running rsync in cygwin on windows. I am attempting to backup a somewhat large data store (750GB) to a remote site. As its windows and preserving permissions exactly is important, I have an iSCSI drive mounted on the local system across a somewhat slow WAN link (IE, it would take about 3 months to copy the datastore over it). Unfortunately, since this appears as a "local" copy to

wan hdlc_ppp and IPv6
Hi list,
I can successfully build the driver modules; hdlc, dlci, syncppp, and lmc
from the 2.6.18-128.1.14 kernel source rpm, and have managed to
create a 'wan kmod' rpm. It all works fine for IPv4, but now I need
IPv6 for ppp connections, which doesn't work for me.
I think I'll need to back port Krzysztof Halasa's 'ppp for generic hdlc'
patches to the

Multiple WAN + Multiple LAN + linux-igd
Hi, I''m implementing a linux router with this characteristics:
- Multiple adsl with each public ip''s
- Multiple LAN ethernets (in a bridge).
- Linux IGD
I have successfully implemented de 2 first steps, the adsl balanced fine
(multipath routing), and the clients bridge fine.
My problem is how to use that with linux-igd.
My LAN bridge has STP and is implemented for

connect a LAN server to a WAN server as a sip client
hello
I have a asterisk server on WAN, and one server on LAN. And now there are
some users on the LAN server. Users on the LAN server need to make phone
calls to PSTN through the WAN server.
Now on WAN server, there is a user account for the LAN server to register,
and it's an account with multiple ports.(So more than one users on the LAN
server can make phone calls through the WAN server at

VPN Single Daemon For LAN/WAN
Guus:
Ok, I accept your challenge.
But I am clueless in terms of getting the routing table correct.
So each server has a dual identity, both a LAN private identity with a
PRIVATE IP address and a WAN public identify with a PUBLIC ip address.
And how to have 2 different tun devices show up in the ifconfig -a so
that LAN IP address can be assigned to the tun0 and a WAN IP address can
be assigned

Incoming Traffic Control across WAN
Hi All
Is it possible to control incoming traffic from the Internet across the WAN
on the company premises side not at the ISP. i.e. If I have a 128Kbps WAN
and some one is trying to send me a 5MB email is possible to throttle him
back to 64Kbps. Or do u have to have a box @ the ISP which limits traffic
down my WAN.
Thanks in Advance

VPN Single Daemon For LAN/WAN
Gus:
I guess my primary point of confusion is that the non-vpn LAN ip
addresses are duplicated in each cluster. So within a cluster, the LAN
addresses are unique.
But when you look at 2 clusters, 2 different servers share the
10.99.0.11 address.
So that is why I created a VPN for inside the cluster on the LAN
interfaces using the private 10.0.1.xx range. THen, I created a
separate VPN on the

Samba in a WAN Environment
Brevard County is about 70 miles long and 20 miles wide. We have many small sites around the County that will eventually have their current servers replaced with Linux/Samba servers. We've been successfully running a test Samba server since January and I'm convinced of it's stability and usefulness ... good work Samba Team and Linux in general.
Other than for the test Samba server,

Glusterfs over wan?
Hello !
sorry for english, but, just don't understand why glusterfs is not
destinated to be used over the wan ?
I think that if the files are tiny, there's no problem to use this
solution over wan.. ?
But okay, if file are large.. (don't know .. 100MB - 200MB and more.) i
understand that it depend of the internet connection and that's the
replication can be so soo soo slow..

Looking for large-ish deployment advice
Colleagues-
I am working on the design of a fairly large samba deployment, and I am
looking for feedback on some of my design ideas.
I have 10 buildings spread out in and around a city, all interconnected
via 1.5Mb leased lines. There are samba servers in each building. I have
some users that move from building to building. We are using primarily
windows 98 desktops, with a few 2K and XPP

IPv4 192.168.71.1 'leaks out onto WAN.
Arch = x86_64
OS = CentOS-6.4 (centos) with all updates applied to date.
On our gateway host eth0 is the WAN access and eth1 is the LAN. I wish
to activate the address 192.185.71.1 on eth1. The ifcfg-eth1:192071
file contains this:

BOOTPROTO=none
MACADDR=""
IPV6INIT=no
DEVICE=eth1:192071
NETMASK=255.255.255.0

Samba w/ WAN.
hi,
I'm going to be setting up Samba with a WAN and VPN. On one end of the
network (my end) it will be Samba on a Linux box and some NT and 98
PCs. On the other end of the WAN it will be Windows only.
I'd like to know if we need to be able to route anything other than TCP
packages. Like NetBIOS or something else Windows may use.
Thanks,
J.

(Newbie) Trying to get name resolution functional across the WAN
Hello all,
Sorry if this is not new for you, certainly it is for me.
I've setup Samba 2.2.3a on Redhat 7.3, right off the distribution's RPMs.
Somehow I managed to get it working, as seen from the local LAN where the
server sits, at building A. Problem is, all of my users are in building B,
10 miles across the city from the server room. This is a corporate
environment, mainly Windows and
