rsync out of memory in flist_expand
Hi, I have been using rsync for years to perform my backups, but since a few days it crashes with an "out of memory" error. I am running Ubuntu 11.04/x86_64, which ships rsync-3.0.8, and I have also tried with the git version. I can see the following messages: [generator] expand file_list pointer array to 524288 bytes, did move [generator] expand file_list pointer array to 1048576

rsync out of memory at 8 MB although ulimit is 512MB
Hello again, I encountered something amazing. First I thought there is not enough memory allowed through ulimit. ulimit is now set to (almost) 512MB but rsync still gets out fo memory at 8MB. Can anyone tell me why? That's my configuration: rsync version 2.6.2 from AIX 5.3 to SuSE Linux 9 (also has rsync 2.6.2) ulimit -a (AIX) ulimit -a AIX (source): -------------------------

rsync 3.0.9 segmentation fault
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Try also removing --delete-excluded. Without those two options there should be no reason for rsync to require gigs of RAM. rsync 3.0.9 segmentation fault
Hi, I am experiencing segfaults when transferring files via rsync though sudo. Setup: - Backupserver initiates the rsync command with --delete -vvv --no-inc-recursive --numeric-ids --delete-excluded --relative --rsync-path=/home/backupuser/rsync-wrapper.sh - rsync-wrapper.sh (on the client) contains /usr/bin/sudo /usr/bin/rsync "$@"; - user "backupuser" has sudo access to the

i've built up rsync on both opensuse & osx from src. on osx, it's v2.6.3 w/ both apple's "Extended Attributes" patches: http://www.opensource.apple.com/darwinsource/10.4.8.ppc/rsync-24/patches/EA.diff http://www.opensource.apple.com/darwinsource/10.4.8.ppc/rsync-24/patches/PR-3945747-endian.diff and the 'lartmaker' fix (iteself, slightly fixed ...):

Differentiating debug messages from both sides
Some of the debug messages that rsync outputs (when verbose >= 2) can occur on both sides of the connection. This makes it hard to know which program is saying what. Some debug messages deal with this by outputting a "[PID]" string at the start of the message. Unfortunately, the startup message that tells us which pid is which is only output when verbose >= 3, so there's a

Root cannot delete files through samba share
Dear, We are integrating Samba with Active Directory in the company. The goal is to provide a samba share to users of AD. In this case, we need all users to write on the share, but nobody modify or delete any files. Even the user who owns it. With this, we would create only one AD user, if necessary with root powers, which could erase everything. For this, we test several lines, such as

New syntax for positional-only function parameters?
Dear List, I'm writing to gauge interest in new syntax for positional-only function parameters to be added to R. The pattern of functions accepting other functions as inputs and passing additional ... arguments to them is prevalent throughout the R ecosystem. Currently, however, all such functions must one way or another tackle the problem of inadvertently passing arguments meant to go to
