Troubleshooting RSYNC
Greetings,
I am having a problem with rsync deleting entire folders and files and then
attempting to recopy the entire contents of the folder(s) even though they
are up to date. The task is syncing from ubuntu (rsync version 3.1.1) to
windows using cygwin (rsync version 3.1.2). I have a number of these
configurations, and they all work except this one. I use the
modify-window=600 and cannot

Problem with absolute symbolic links
I'm trying to synchronize a particularly troublesome directory structure on a SunOS box to a PC. I really want all symbolic links resolved to real files on the PC when everything is done. I can't seem to find any combination of parameters that will accomplish this.
It boils down to two problems.
1. It seems like that even if I exclude a symbolic link that is a directory it is not

COW and unredirect_fullscreen_windows
I'm using Compiz 0.3.2 on Gentoo with the Nvidia 9626 beta drivers.
First off, I would like to state that Compiz is very, very nice. The effects
are very tasteful and enhance the desktop experience instead of being
distracting. Compiz itself works great, the animations are smooth and it's
very nice that it now uses the Metacity themes.
The only reason I'm not using Compiz full time

Symbolic links not visible on osx 10.10
Hi,
I'm replying to this post (as I wasn't subscribed to the list until
now). Is there any progress on this issue (not being able to see
symbolic links as such on a SMB3_02 share mounted with macOS)?
It looks to me like this is one of the last showstoppers left for samba
being able to be a full replacement for netatalk, since vfs_fruit is
otherwise doing a good job.
Best Wishes,

Re: Guestfish command - "copy-out" not working for symbolic links
guestfish --ro -a /path/to/disk run : mount /dev/your-blkdev / :
download /etc/resolv.conf /path/on/host/dst.file
Is also not working for symbolic link - as "/etc/resolv.conf" is symbolic link.

Rsync: Directories become Symbolic Links
Hi all,
I have rsync'ed directory /rootdir/dirdir/ from Server1 to Server2, using cmd on Server2 "rsync
Server1:/rootdir/dirdir -avz /rootdir/dirdir". There were some sub-directories from Server1 got
updated to become the symbolic links. For example, directory /rootdir/dirdir/subdir1/ now becomes
the symbolic link /rootdir/dirdir/subdir1 pointing to the new created directory

extlinux & symbolic links
I'm having a problem with extlinux booting to a Linux kernel image and
initial ramdisk with a symbolic link.
My /boot looks like this:
extlinux.conf
extlinux.sys
initrd.img -> initrd.img-2.6.22.1
initrd.img-2.6.22.1
vmlinuz -> vmlinuz-2.6.22.1
vmlinuz-2.6.22.1
The relevant section of my extlinux.conf file is this:
label 1
kernel /boot/vmlinuz
append initrd=/boot/initrd.img

Preserving symbolic links on the destination machine
Hi there,
I'm trying to keep my laptop up-to-date with my desktop. For various
reasons I have a number of directories which are soft-linked to
directories on different machines on the network to which my desktop is
connected. When I sync to my laptop with a command like
rsync -vazu -e ssh ~/* --delete <destination> -L --copy-unsafe-links
it does what I want, which is to copy

MAC Client - Issue Following Symbolic Links
I run SAMBA 3.6.15 on a Solaris 10 server that acts as a portal for my MS
Windows users into a large number of UNIX servers providing amongst other
things web-servers and ftp-servers.
The SAMBA server has these varied resources all mounted as NFS mounts.
In each users home directory there are symbolic links that take the users
to their specific resource.

Symbolic links not visible on osx 10.10
Since I do not see my last messages in the samba mail archive (I replied
myself), here's the last one I sent with some more information (so
hopefully they arrive now for everybody?):
I just found out this is not only happening on the osx clients by
mounting the share on the server:
All this below happens on an linux arch server mounting the own share:
mount //ip.addr/Programs ./tmp -o

Error in dovecot 2.0.13: "Too many levels of symbolic links"
Hi all,
I've run into an issue we have with dovecot versions 2.0.12 through 2.0.14 on
latest CentOS 6.2 when dealing with Maildirs located on NFS partitions.
Although I saw Mr. Egbert's thread, his resolution does not work on our
end.
When dealing with users with over 500 messages in any of their Maildir
folders, they occasionally receive an error from the server:

unlink fails to remove symbolic links
unlink fails to remove symbolic links. This is more prominent now --
when a package creates symbolic links during installation, 00LOCK is
not removed.
